I know this has been said before, but listen to my idea, let us hve a nice discussion to attract the right kind of dev attention

1.) Cities should hve walls, placable walls by the mayor, this would only be within city limits and have to include a certain number of entrances per a distance (ie 2 doors per 100m) If the city was factionally declared these could be shut and have to be blown down by players, the better quality wall the stronger the door. If it was neutral or players from same side wanted to come in, they can enter normally and walk around inside, this would still allow access to the city aslong as you went "on leave" status

2.)These should be allowed to be fortified, with turrets close together and shield generators etc, with smugglers having to hack the shields output signal like the village quest. Turrets would behave like they always do.

3.) Mayors should be able to hire NPC militia of neutral or faction affiliation, this would allow guards to assist with the GCW and protect bases, again the more money the stronger the guards. And a caps limit on number and level depending on city size

4.) Mayors of faction affiliation should be able to expend faction points to call in reinforcements.

What do you all think? Please keep the flaming down and let this be an interesting and good discussion. Also feel free to bring in your own ideas and improvements

yea, i would like player cities to play a larger role in GCW, i wnt to be on the steps of my city hall wit my militia fighting of invading reb commandos, i wnt to be leading an assult on the front door to a traitor city of the alliance. You see what im getting at?

Yes, but I don't agree.

So you'd like to make player cities replace factional bases so to speak? Or just added another line of defense? Hiring pets to defend against PVE players, eh? That's a hop away from the PVP restriction against being able to fight PVE players.

Oh, what do you not like about it? I mean im not forcing pvp on people (even though i believe the whole thing should be completely pvp) its just a way of defending cities, i mean its bad enough stormies dont even fight criminals anymore, star por t security would let u be murdered right infront of em, im just saying mayors should be able to take part in GCW by making their cities part of it

i for one love the idea...with a few modifications and add-ons...it would be great..as it stands now...player cities really do not serve much of a purpose except for placing houses so we can all store our junk in them...nobody really visits a city much at all. and player cities and the politician profession have all been overlooked more than just about any other profession or w/e in SWG.

Won't happen. PVP has the potential to be fun, but if the game went even that much pvp for everyone, half the population would quit within 3 days.

Best solution I have for city base farming.

If you don't want someone farming your base for faction points, don't place the base.

Politician costs zero skillpoints, mayors can get involved in the GCW. Go out and grind fp and place a base. They nerfed scanners. They got rid of /citywarn. We've had various flips-flops on making walls with medium Naboo houses. I don't think making a city into a walled fortress is something the devs would go for. Other than guild crafters, most every crafter I've heard of sells to people of either faction and neutrals, walling your city is going to reduce that and you'll probably not get input from the merchants till afterwards. This feature could easily be made into a cheap defense of bases by making your city circular or square and putting all the bases inside.

Go out and take part? I wonder how, my alt is a mbh/master pistoleer, if i wnt to take part thats how i do it, my mayor does crafting, im not looking for a way to get mayors in the battles im looking for a way to get cities in the battles. I wnt to work with everyone to design a way in which to create this, i think it would be interesting and fun for all. Plus my city currently has 3 bases so it is already defended.

Well let me ask you this, how is PVP at the moment preventing your city from becoming a battleground? Other than providing another set of defenses, how does your idea contribute to PVP?

Im providing content for both with this idea, personally i will pvp with anyone, aslong as they do not stack. But i can see why some1 would wnt to be pve only, this content wil give cities both options. Im coming up with an idea to get cities involved in combat, not just pvp. Thats why its on the housing forum rather than the GCW forum

So are the city defense PVE or PVP?

City defense is both, turrets and NPC militia attack combatants, whilst everything fights speecial forces, im just suggesting NPC militia as an idea for proper PVE defence of cities(turrets aswell)
