Walls are ugly.
Have you driven down the interstate and seen those rear ugly concrete walls that are going up along our highways?
I would never put a wall around my city, we so enjoy the trees and view. A lot of players chose their cities for the environment and lovely setting.

I know this has been said before, but listen to my idea, let us hve a nice discussion to attract the right kind of dev attention
1.) Cities should hve walls, placable walls by the mayor, this would only be within city limits and have to include a certain number of entrances per a distance (ie 2 doors per 100m) If the city was factionally declared these could be shut and have to be blown down by players, the better quality wall the stronger the door. If it was neutral or players from same side wanted to come in, they can enter normally and walk around inside, this would still allow access to the city aslong as you went "on leave" status
2.)These should be allowed to be fortified, with turrets close together and shield generators etc, with smugglers having to hack the shields output signal like the village quest. Turrets would behave like they always do.
3.) Mayors should be able to hire NPC militia of neutral or faction affiliation, this would allow guards to assist with the GCW and protect bases, again the more money the stronger the guards. And a caps limit on number and level depending on city size
4.) Mayors of faction affiliation should be able to expend faction points to call in reinforcements.
What do you all think? Please keep the flaming down and let this be an interesting and good discussion. Also feel free to bring in your own ideas and improvements
Best idea to stop city base farming...drop pvp bases lol The NPC's are insoide the base.

I agree with the "City strong hold only" part.
I like this ideaa lot. There could be an option for allowing "donations" to the militia for factional pets; because currently, no one uses them.
There should also be a new UI for the city terminal of where to place buildings and such, much like the Deed screen, only you can place multiple structures and "units" and set patrol points for the milita NPC's.

If you don't want your base farmed, drop a pvp base or no base at all.

Uh no, YOU want player cities to have a part in the GCW. Don't speak for all mayors.

No walls.
Walls make no sence in a high tech game the would be blasted flat in short order.

maybe not walls but shields would be neat instead. only a few would be able to go into the shields to disable it. maybe give smugglers and image designers a way to work together. The smuggler gets a temporary "disguise" that allows him to slip in as if he was one of the town members. then he goes in with a small team and kills the shields temporarily so the others can get in. the disguise idea has been kicked around for awhile in other forums.

I think you should be able to place either a wall around the city or a laser defence wall around the city which will do instant kill to anyone that walks or drives through it.They should also have milita npc which will spawn if a milita or the mayor uses a command called State of emergancy which is basicly calling all police force to protect the city and how this will work would be that if your not a citizen in the city you are then stopped by the npcs and given a warning which lasts for a few mins giving the player a chance to leave, if he doesnt the npc opens fire and if attacked, he will call in more and more until the target is dead.
Another way is.....BRING BACK THE OLD MILITA COMMAND which was a command that allowed milita to basicly give the player they targeted a tef which only allows the milita to attack the player and the player cant attack back. They remove this do to milita and mayors abusing the power and attacking everyone walking by. But if they changed it allowing the player to attack back then it could work out and also have a rule where it will not attack players level 1 to 10 or around there (when CU COMES OUT this would most likely take affect).
Anyways thats all my ideas.

Instant kill fences??? So you can set up your pvp bases and affect the planetary control without any risk to your bases, eh?
