Is there anyway to add abilities to npc's in the cities (both player and standard)? I am thinking specifically of healing wounds - from an npc in the med center. Of course just like repairing a ship they would have to pay a fee, but it sure beats sitting around hoping a doctor or jedi will wander by. Just an idea, but I think it has some merit and would not take away from the doctor profession.

I think that you would find that most doctors would think this takes away from their profession. I know I would not be happy with a clothing-making NPC or a battle fatigue-healing NPC.

have you walked around with alot of wounds and no doc anywhere?I haven't seen a doc since CU. I keep an alt to heal wounds, or if there is a jedi around that can heal wounds. you can play all day long with no cloths and BF

Back during the JTL beta, I floated the following suggestion:
Adding bacta tanks to med centers.
Here's how they'd work:
Bacta tanks would be very quick (almost instant, but not quite...say, 10-15 seconds), full heals.
- If no live medic/doctor is present, a player could use the bacta tank directly for a quick, full heal, but at a very, VERY high fee (I'm thinking 500-1000 credits per wound, if not more, just as a ballpark figure).
- If a live medic/doctor is present, they would use the bacta tank, which would bring up a listing of available "targets" within a given radius to use the bacta tank on.
- In this situation, the practitioner, being skilled in the use of the bacta tank, would be able to use it for free and/or at discounted rates. (One thought that I had would still have a charge for the tank's use, but greatly reduced, with said discount increasing until reaching Master Doctor, which would allow free use of the tank.) In these cases, the practitioner could set his/her rates for healing ahead of time with the patient, collecting in advance.

Those were only examples that I am familiar with. No profession should be replaced by NPCs.

/agree.
replacing professions with NPCs is a step towards making this a single player game. and why play $15 a month for a single player game?

This would be the equivalent of NPC Weaponsmiths, NPC Armoursmiths, NPC Chefs, NPC Entertainers.
They could fix the Doctor profession to make it work properly, which would solve the problem.

there are no doctors in med centers now, since they get no xp, so you are not taking anything from them.
what has to happen is either
npc healers
or
med xp in the med center.

I like the bacta tank idea. And that is what some of the veterans have told me is that the doctors/medics don't hang out at the med center anymore because they don't get any xp. If doctors could craft the bacta tanks and get the proceeds (and some xp) that would be a happy medium wouldn't it? Or perhaps doctors could craft one time use wound packs.

right now . . . sitting in a med center will heal wounds . . .though they heal real slow. Adding a bacta tank thing could bean option to speed up the med center healing process but I think it would dramatically hurt the medic/doc professions.

Hence the almost prohibitavely high charge for unskilled use of a bacta tank. If no live medic/doc is available, a player would have the option of healing quickly (as opposed what appears to be the current 10 minutes/10 wounds unmanned healing time...I mean, how many of us really relish spending a little over an hour-and-a-half just to heal up from having our ships go "*boom*" around us?). However, exercising that option would cost. A lot. More likely stillfar cheaper to find a doc, but, as the saying goes, any port in a storm.
Another post in the thread got me thinking...do make bacta tanks doctor craftable. Doctors could place them in NPC med centers - but ONLY while online - and set a price for their use. (Perhaps limit them to being placed upstairs?) The doc logs off, the bacta tank goes away. Or, by the same token, give them aset number of uses, which wouldhelp prevent someone from setting the tank, going afk all day and raking in the dough. In such a scenario, after, say, 20 uses, the tank goes away and the doc will need to place another. Likewise, anyone with admin rights to a PC med center could place a tank and set usage price.
