Thread: My City will be Ruined...

I'm mayor of the city of Neo-Rome on Eclipse. A city that is widely regarded as one of the best planned and set out on our entire server. Our housing plans have always been followed very strictly and walking thru Neo-Rome you really feel like you are actually in a CITY rather than simply a mass of houses.

This will change now the devs have ingeniusly changed the size of the Medium Naboo Houses footprints tho....

As I understand it this change was made to prevent people from building "walls" with their houses. Fair enough, I totally agree. However, as I will now demonstrate with my own city, as normal they have gone too far.

Our city is basically set up with 'blocks' of Medium Naboo Houses that are all placed with a gap between each side and any other structures. So naturally when I heard of the footprint change I was not bothered or worried about it at all, none of our houses are placed directly next to another so it shouldn't be a problem...oh dear how wrong can you be?

Example 1:

Our Imperial Bases are contained on 3 sides with rows of houses. As already stated and as can be seen on this screenie of the overhead map, each house has a gap between it and the next. No exploiting here, Rebels are free to attack the bases from any direction they please.

Now note the gap where under the previous system another house could be placed, still with a gap all the way around it...not even close to fitting now.

Example 2:

The 'blocks' that make up our city follow the same rules, a gap around each side of every house. An example of how they look can be seen here. Looks smart in my opinion and again doesn't 'exploit' in any way at all (anything to the left of the Cantina is outside the city boarders and therefore nothing to do with us).

Under the previous system we would have been able to place two houses along the northern edge of the 'block' my toon is in (altho we probably wouldn't put one on the corner). Now we can't even fill the gap to close off the 'block'.

So what does this mean for my city? Well its certainly not good news at all.

The entire city design is now ruined. We will not be able to replace houses that are removed or that vanish. To place any new houses in the city, despite there being spaces for 4 or 5, we need to wait or remove two houses directly next to each other (and on corners three houses) to be able to replace just one of them.

So as each house is removed or disappears more and more unfillable holes will appear making the city look awful and slowly reducing the total number of citizens. I'm honeslty not sure what will happen first, if it will start looking just like any another random group of houses thrown together without any planning whatsoever or if it will lose its status as a metropolis due to not being able to replace houses and citizens that leave...

Seriously Devs, you make some weird decisions, but this one really does top them all. You wanted to stop the 'exploit' of making walls? Fine, add one extra block to the houses, at least that way it will allow cities just like mine to keep their designs and actually LOOK LIKE A CITY. Instead tho you add two extra blocks to the houses and ruined many cities in the progress....? *slow clap*

/salute

See our posts regarding the same issues with Riverbend, Naboo on Kettemooor.

I sincerely hope they come to their senses on this.

Good luck to you.

We have no bases and have made sure that we provide nice clean streats through our city but we did use the houses to create the effect of housing rows.

I hope they will reverse this move as well. It is going to seriously damage any hopes of replacing houses if someone should move or people leave the game.

This is going to devastate many many cities.

We have no bases either, and yet we continue to get punished cause of PvP exploiters. Good one Devs!

My city on Naboo (Bria) will suffer from the same issue.

I'm not very happy about it either.

Corrino Palisades, Naboo, Sunrunner also falls victim to this .... It really bothers me that they did not address this issue with the politicans and community leaders. It has effected us the more.. for while they pay all this attention to combat, they universially leave out player cities.

And then THIS is what they do to us: ruin city plans that have been crefully crafted to bring some semblance of "city hood" to nothing more then a collection of houses. So many of us used these as the way to craft a street, since they will not give us the ability to do so ourselves. Now, even this is taken away from us.

Thanks for all the replies. What gets me the most is that this change seems to do nothing but harm the very player cities they are trying to encourage. I'm sure they want less of the 'urban sprawl' housing and more organised locations that actually look like cities....but then they go and do something like this. I really hope it was just another "quick fix" that they didn't bother to consider the results of and they take steps to rectify it.

This huge foot print is awful. We tried putting in a naboo house and theres a gap between the houses big enough to fit another house. Of course its right on the town square, and looks very attractive. *cough* Have they only changes this particular house or all houses? I've only recently tried to put a med naboo in.

I'll sign this.. Make a wiser solution Dev's - Neo Rome is too good to be ruined by such changes.

As usual, PvP jerkwads ruin another part of the game enjoyed by many. I am glad I gave up trying to run a city a year ago. Its not even worth the effort anymore. I have set up all alone on Talus, and hope everyone stays the heck away from me. Until the Devs realize that there are more than just jedi wannabee's in this game, there will be no real progress. And btw, there is NO HOPE of this being put back, so dont bother.

Just that medium Naboo they changed. An ingnorant change at that. Sad and pathetic the honest player base gets hurt for their lack of interest or knowlege to remedy the real situation.
