Thread: Dishonest citizens (slight rant)
More than anything, it bugs me that people still houses, woth like 10k, a month of maintence, another 10k, and some cheap furniture.. All together 25k. Are they really that poor? A few missions will cover that cost, so why do people have to steal it. Geez.
While it is rude, offering gift does not obligate them to stay in town. It's an incentive to stay in town.
the sad truth is yes, people are that mannerless but it is a risk when doing open recruitment for a city. You willf ace far less of this in cities run by guilds and are limited to guild members.
My suggestion is drop the house for them and do not /transfer it to them until they reach the 30-day mark. If they vaoprize and never come back, you stil have your houses, and he hasnt taken up precious space in the city.
Yea you need to give up lots for this but until people become more honest, you either have to keep losing houses like this or make sure they cant be taken right away.

What your forgetting is most of the players are new to the game, not just to your city. They have no idea of the etiquette involved. If you throw free things at a new player, who doesn't know what he/she is doing you can't expect them to act the way you want them to.
Why give them anything at all? Rewards are given for accomplishments in my book, not to gode someone to join you. Can you honestly say that you trying to get them into you PA/city in the first place has nothing to do with increasing your city size? Hardly the 'best of intentions'.
New players should be eased into the way of things and rewarded accordingly. Your affectivly giving them hand outs just as if you were throwing credits at them just for being 'new'.
I certainly don't think black-marking them is very noble way of doing things, especially as you created the monster, so to speak.
Just playing Devil's advocate.

Yes, I can honestly say that it is not necessarily our city size that is the main aspect here... We are in a situation where we can't really grow to the next level anyway - so what happens is that we look out for and evaluate people that we think could fit into our community... It is not like we pick out a "random noob" and more or less force them to move into our city... Plus we separate guild and city, e.g. the guild associated to the city does not take in anyone withouta probation period where we can get to know them and vice versa...
It is not the loss of the house really that bothers me- and maybe I am just making the mistake of assuming common courtesy here - but if someone would provide me with a house in their town (and not only that, but shows me the ropes, take me huntingetc.)and I decided that it is not the thing I wantI would definitely tell at least "someone" (maybe not necessarily the mayor) that I plan to leave town and not sneak out like a thief...
Don't getme wrong - I would be the last person to demand gifts back if someone told me our city was not for them - I would bid them farewell and wish them good luck elsewhere... What good woulda citizen be for the community when they were not living there, because they really like it?
Again, what bothers me is not the "financial loss"- it is the obvious lack of manners - then again I should be used to it from other occasions - so yeah, it shouldn't have surprised me...

Pie, I realise that and I understand it cant be frustrating, but imagine you are a new player and you know nothing about this game - you may not even know anything about MMOs. Someone offers you a house, you say thanks and join a city. Then you decide you want to move, you pack up and go. As far as your concerned you may just think that is the way things are done around here. Hell, you were given a house for doing nothing, so why would anyone expect something from you?
I'm not excusing it, but I think a player can learn alot by being forced to earn things to begin with. It just makes nicer players. I'm sure you like myself didn't start the game with so much help. We learned from our own experiences, and like the parents who had nothing ourselves when we were young, naturally we think the correct thing to do is spoil our children. It isn't.
I've probably annoyed may a noob by refusing to lend them money and telling them to use a mission terminal instead. But I'm sure they learned from the experience.
I understand your point... ![]()
But as said before - we involve every new citizen in the community - with hunts, tips how to make your own credits, training and whatnot else... It is not like we toss them them goodies and then send them on their merry way alone... ![]()
If that was the case, then yes, I would kinda understand their behavior - would be like "there, here is a free house, declare citizenship to make our city grow, but please don't bother us any further, m'kay?" ![]()
My views on this might have to do with the fact too that I never ever begged for anything in all my years of playing MMORPGs- and like you I am certain I annoyed my share of beggars by telling them in spatial how they could make a lot more credits by doing <insert credit making tip here> instead of pestering people with their begging spam... ![]()
