What if....there was a harvestor that could harvest your animal meat, hide, bone,or milk? Impossible huh? how bout this idea.

Just like any other harvestor in the game you can buy it from a architect in deed form and place it(no need for concentration, ill explain).

Now actually making the harvestor.

1. A architect of ---- skill has a schematic.

2. The architect needs 2 BE componets tho. For example: a cloning device or somthing diffrent.

3. craft it, and you get your farm deed.

Now how to keep rangers jobs intact.

1. Rangers can trap things, and you do need animals to run for farm. For every farm you need 10 animals, the ranger will go out and trap the animals, which with the right trap will apear as a animal in a cage in your inventory. So only rangers can sell captured animals for your farm. Also depending on how fat and healthy the animal is, that is how much bone you will get.

2. Once the hunting season for that resouce ends, u will need to get new animals. they oens inside will "die".

Spark notes:

1. you get a farm that harvests bone, hide , meat or milk

2. it needs a BE and architect to make it

3. you dont need to put it on any concentration

4. you need 10 captured animals to put in the farm to start harvesting.

if i need to clarify anything say so, if the idea sucks so say

You really should read what has been said about this on the Ranger and Scout forums. Universally, this idea has been flamed, scorched and killed deader than dead by both forums.

There are more than enough Rangers/Scouts to supply the needs of 99.9% of the universes and all the artisans contained therein. Some servers have even had recent gluts of some resources.

Right now Rangers don't have "live traps", nor do they want any. They want the traps they have to work better so they can harvest more. Rangers want changes and live traps weren't even in the top 15. Besides, this steps on the Bio Engineers toes. You know, the profession that tames baby animals.

Onefactor youare ignoring is the fact that some resources, most notably high end meats, come into spawn and then despawn in days, not weeks. You would be running Rangers ragged trying to keep up with animals. Yet another factor - some professions don't need high end material - tailors just need hides - yet your hide bearing animals would die as the meat despawned.

As a Master Ranger, I wouldn't bother getting animals for your "farmers", you are only cutting into my market and stopping me from making money.

As you asked for it - this idea really sucks

Actually I posted something about this recently in another thread about areana. As one of my characters being a master ranger, I love the farm idea and yes even the trapping idea from the scout forums. There are way to incorporate the other classes. BE's could make the animals that live on the farms. Not all farms have to be animal either. They could be flora farms. Even as spawns of organic resources change, so would the farm. Hence it's time to harvest. This would totally change economics also. Like everything else though, there would be a cost to maintain your farm. I know a master CH that would love to have one, just to keep animals on.

as a ranger i make my living hunting. even making these farms only produce low to mid grade stats would cut into my business. allowig players to have these farms would be like letting us rangers make mid grade armor or weaponry.

I like the creativity here, but I dont support it. Rangers dont have things that great to begin with. Their traps are not as good as their scout traps, camping isnt as desireable as it used to be, camo is not all that more effective than mask (and there are mask enhancement stims now), and there is only so much terrain negotiation a person really needs in the land of mounts and bikes. That leaves....well...harvesting.

Your idea, while creative, strikes right at the heart of the single largest moneymaker for Rangers. Yes, I did read the ideas for how to keep rangers in business....but sorry....Im calling shenanigans. It sounds an awful lot like the airline industry reassuring the train industry in the 40's that everything would be ok and that both of them would have places in the new future.....

The only way I would support farms would be BE/CH farms, where they could raise and breed creatures for CHs and others. But not as a harvesting option. And there is no need for a flora farm either. Finding decent flora is not hard at all, and harvesting tons of it is ALSO not hard.

Anyway, I am all for coming up with new ideas, I just cant support this particular one. I am not suggesting that I am the majority, nor am I suggesting that I am even right. LOL..its just my opinion.

Just a reminder...

Creature Handlers tame baby animals, not Bio Engineers. Bio Engineers already took 99% of the pet / creature market away from us, no need to give them the rest.

Thank you.

Think he meant CH, not too hard to realise that eh?

On the subject of farms. These kind of sum up the ranger/scout community's fealings on the subject:

No

Negative

Nope

Nah

Nay Lassie

Not On Your Life

Nelly

Nup

Do Chickens Lay Bricks?

and

Ye......nope!

Even if rangers or scouts are involved somehow in the farming process, aslong as others can use them and they provide automated harvesting, it hurts the scouts and rangers who have choosen to utilise the hunting aspects of their profession. Why go out hunting all day if some lazy ass can do a similar thing whilst sitting in their house? or even better, whilst not even playing?

So yeah, rangers/scouts say nay

Nice creativity. But as a Master Ranger, I don't support it either. Would cut to much into my business. Now if you want to give a Master Ranger a ranch,....well I would think about that one a bit longer.

And I wasn't joking on the creativity, nice job and well thought, honestly.

AFK harvesting of Organics would kill the Ranger and scout professions. Right now, the most usefull skill we have is harvesting. Anyway to expediate that process without putting a person in harms' way is going to get shot down by people who make their living harvesting.

This is about the 10,000th time this idea has come up, and each time, Rangers end up explaining why killing two professions is a bad idea.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Have you ever roamed about a heavily populated server? Seen 40-50 harvestors sitting around as static spots collecting tons of resources for 1-2 cpu hoping to hit that one good run to sell it for big money?

This would do the same for creature resources. Granted it would take alot more work to keep the "farms" running. I for one would NOT hunt/trap creatures just to drop into a farm so you can get your resources easy and cheap.

I understand the reason for your idea. More resources/less hassle and no more price wars on uber avian hitting as high as 350 cpu. The way to solve this isnt a farm. Its to increase the harvesting mod of scouts and rangers. Not greatly but slightly. Also, allowing us to harvest at least 2 resources would help as well.

Werent there farms in beta? What was the consensus then?

Harvesting is how i make money along with............... about 10 other rangers that i have encountered so obviously im not gonna shoot myself in the foot with my DXR by droping a creature harvester and sitting on my but all day. No offence but its not just "harvest creature get money"its "hunt creature, kill creature, enjoy self, repeat, for life of buff, go back to c-net and make money then" if the devs did something like this it would just about take the fun out of this game for me. Not to mention the fact that i wouldn't earn any money for all the hard work i put into my hunting "i have my cake and eat it too" one of the few occasions that this happens is in ranger/scout in my opinoin

wait Owen.....your chicken doesn't lay bricks? I need to bring mine in for a tune up I guess....

I too stand by my fellow rangers. Farms need constant attention too. And if you are getting bones, hide and meat from animals, they had best be dead, or else they will be very angry at you. Maybe, possibly, slightly.....milk....but I believe the rangers will fight for that because it is a source of our income.
