Thread: Our mayor just deleted our R 5 City coz he was losing
According to the Mayor 90% of the citizens were long gone, all was left was there homes collecting dust. According the Dev's awhile ago they were suppose to clean up the servers every several months to delete homes/factories/harveters of players that had canceled accounts. If this worked as it was suppose to odds are this city would of been gone long ago.
By deleting the basicaly dead city it allows others to start a new city.
Me and my friends ended up having to build on Lok because every other planet except for Rori hit its city cap. If the Dev's would clean up the server, I bet 50% of those cities out there wold no longer qualify as cities, as most are just ghost towns.
i don't think there should be a vote to dismantle a city. I also don't think that a Mayor should be able to destroy a city because they are losing the election either. Since there is always an election going on to me, the solution is to have a freeze on the Mayor being able to destroy the City Hall if there is a contested election going on. If no one is opposing the Mayor, then the Mayor should be able to pull up the City Hall. The addition of a 1 day timer on it, may also be added along with a City Mail to all residents.
Things like this make me support a "deputy mayor" position.
Under my plan, when you go and register for an election, you get to choose a running mate. Once you hit "register for election", a pop up comes up listing all currently declared residents in the city. Then you pick one from the list to be your running mate. Once the election is over, you both get XP for all votes that your "party" got.
While in office, the deputy mayor has all duties and responsibilites of the mayor. This way, even if the mayor isn't in-game, you still may have a chance to have someone around who can do administrative things. This would also be good if the mayor was down in the ryatt trails or something and couldn't make it back to the city easily.
Also under my proposal, neither the mayor nor the deputy mayor would have access to destroy the city. If either of them selected the "destroy building" option in city hall, the other would have to come and do the same before the city was disbanded. Thus keeping the city intact in the face of a griefing loosing mayor.
We had a similar situation happen to us. The mayor decided doing a jedi grind was more important than taking care of the city. He had refused to appoint militia or accept any help to take care of things. He had made it clear that he didn't care about the guild or the city, just using us to get xp for another badge. So as Guild Leader, I was asked to run for mayor. When it became evident thatI was going to win, he maxed out all the taxes, started raiding the treasury and then destroyed all the city structures. Our problem arose whan we tried to reform the town, there were many dead houses due to deleted toons or accounts that had been inactive since CU. They had been counted in the town census, but now were in the way to allow us to place new houses when we gained new members.
Some safety measures need to be put in place to not allow this type of thing to occur. Maybe a citizen poll or official vote to disband the city (to move to a different location possibly) needs to be put in place. If not, then there needs to be an appeal process to have the cithy hall at least placed back and the city to return to it's previous lvl.
