hehe, I just finally got our city stated, and was reading the holo about it. Was all excited about /citywarn. There are always ppl that seem to get more enjoyment from bothering others. I thought this was a great counter measure. To bad I missed out on when this was working . I can see how might be abused, but still like the general idea of it.

Ok, that is a laugh at 1st, but 2 things, all those ppl should have been suspended, 30days, and then any future probs, banned via name on credit card, more than likely it's kids but still. 2ndly How the crap did they do it? I was testing some things w/ a CSR recently and he killed me w/ one hit, lol. sorry seeing one incap'd is odd. Thought they were immortal.
But back to topic. I do agree this would be easily abused. But I also strongly agree that players should have some sort of tools to protect their city, and far more importantly their gaming experience. Here is the thing, there are always going to be a handful of ppl that exploit the holes. Problems occur when instead of the Devs just banning those "law-breakers" they kill off something good for the 99% of the players that can use it w/o abusing it. I know that this takes more work. But I truly feel this is a better approach.
Example: In RL, ppl can murder another. Would you rather punish the offenders? Or simply have the government strap everyone to a table so they could do it. I know this is a bit extreme, but PLEASE, punish the jerks that break the rules. Punish the loot campers, afk macro ppl, and anyone that exploits the game. Set up a system, of 3 strikes, Warning, Suspension (few days - month), SOE Games BAN. I think it is better for the overall game. Now it does require more work. I have nvr felt this game had as many CSRs as needed. Think they need to spend more cash on that and would help alot.
Sorry for the rant. Exploiters just get to me. I try hard to help new ppl and many quit b/c certain veteran players would rather make someone else cry then admit they have out grown the game and there is nothing that interests them anymore. oh well, back to mayor duties.

Just got to thinking what if they put back city warn but only allowed cities with Stronghold Specialization to be able to have that ability.
It would be griefed and used in a negative way to make the devs question what they where thinking. They just made some major overhauls to make sure PvP was always overly concensual, this goes against that in every way.

There are a limited number of cities per planet. Because this is a limited number, no matter how great your community is, it still isn't your city.
One star all you want, the simple fact is that no PC should ever have the ability to restrict access to ANYWHERE in a game. The game can, and CSR's can, but no one else.
I don't know if you are a responsible adult or idiot kid, and I have no way of knowing. Neither does SOE and so they can't possibly give the ability to ban someone to you or me or anyone.
What possible reason could you have to use /citywarn of /cityban? There are no good ones. Some guy comes in talking smack? /addignore is already in place, and fixes that problem. Since no one can do anything but talk smack, there is no need for any other option.
Why should I be able to go anywhere I want? Because I paid the same amount of money to play this game as you did, and should not have to worry about whether or not the city I'm shuttling into because its close to where I want to go has some punk who thinks griefing is funny.
And that is what it boils down to. If griefing is possible, griefing will happen. No content, even player cities made by others, should be restricted.
The Dev's agreed with this and fixed the problem.
And I do contribute to cities on my server. Every time I purchase items from vendors in these cities. I'm pretty sure that the city I spent 14million credits in purchasing resources from vendors was really happy with their 10%....

I have to disagree, there are many things they can do. EX: 15 overt Imperials and 5 BH's come into a rebel town and camp the cantina where 3 Light jedi Knights (perm overt) and padawans are mind buffing. Light Jedi can not move outside of cantina without dying instantly, and padawans (if there is even the possibility they are on the terms) cant either. This ruins the game for these people since they cant play it until A: the imps get bored from sitting there B: They purposely run out and die so they can clone somewhere else.
With a working Citywarn everyone on the militia could help the knights remove the threat. As it stand now NOTHING can be done since CSR's claim this is not "greifing" (although i strongly disagree).

In "real life" the people who live in, say, Chicago, can not prohibit me from using the Airport, or coming into the city. I don't have to worry about cops looking at me, not liking what they see, and escorting me to the city limits with admonitions to not come back.
Creating the city was your PRIVILAGE. Not a right. You seem to think that making the city gives you some special rights to it, and this isn't true. Yes, you created it and you maintain it, but the only privilage this gives you is control of the infrastructure. Its a public area that all should be able to enjoy without worring about children griefing them.
Shuttle users pay your city a fee in addition to the travel cost. Visitors will most likely be shoppers, so they pay additional fees in the form of taxes. Visitors pay for what they use. People who live there pay for what they use too, through property tax and the like. Residents also have the sense of community. Residents can control who lives there.
So your Guild founded the city....congrats! Good job! But its a city, not a Guild hall or private residence. Cities denote public, not private.
If everyone could found their own city, then I would fully agree that you had a right to banning people. But that isn't the case. Their are hundreds of people on each server who were unable to make a city because the number of cities is FINITE. That means you have to share your city with those who didn't get to make one themselves.
Most people see Player-cities as Uber-guildhalls or Super Faction Bases. They are neither.
You need to take a drive through Mexico and spout this. Might be staying a while.

Ok, so you go to Chicago and start spouting that it's citizens are (your choice of profanity or slanderous comments) and see how fast you are either:
1. Shot on the spot
2. Have the cops called on you and you are arrested
The city that I called home for over a year only banned a few people and most of those were pardoned when the Militia Captain (at the time me) sat down with them and explained why they were banned and asked that they not do it again. We didn't single out people unless they caused problems and even then we tried to explain to them that they were causing problems and would ask that they stop or leave.

Creating a city DOES give it's citizens special rights to it. Yes, it's a public area, but like any REAL city, you break the laws or you cause problems then you pay the price. In game that would be banning or the use of citywarn.

You obviously have not either built a city from the ground up or ran a city. It's alot of work to build and maintain a city and keep your city's status. Yes, a city is public in that so long as you obey the laws of that city then there won't be a problem. If you don't like their laws. Don't go back. If the militia there griefs you, file a harassment report, and post it on the forums letting people know what went on. People will stop visiting that city, their merchants will not do the business and the city will eventually die.

Bottom line....you sound like someone who has been griefed by a city's militia or someone who wants everything your way. Well this isn't Burger King, you can't have it your way.
Citywarn, with the right modifications (3-5 minute timer before militia can actually attack once warn is issued and the warning staying in effect until you are citypardoned, and everytime a militia member /citywarns someone their entire spatial/guildchat/groupchat/private/etc gets dumped from the time they logged in that day untilthat point and sent to a CSR. Then if a problem arises like the person being warned claims they didn't do anything and the militia is griefing them then the CSR can go back, pull the log and see what happened.) is a necessary tool for the miltia. You're probably the kind of person who thinks that cops shouldn't have guns either!
