Thread: New Idea to Boost City Cantinas
EXAMPLE: I have a friend who used to be a master musician and loved it but he also loved the combat part of playing. He would be one of the first to get musician and together with friends "jam" in the cantinas for the fun of it.
Right now...only AFK dancers and the players who run in for two minutes to get a buff are present in the cantinas and this is ONLY in the cantinas where fight groups are forming. Sure, some dancers will get upset about this...but they also would be able to make some decent money with a crafting skill or hunting skill, yet be able to perform.
Wouldn't it be fun to see "bands" set up in the cantina along with a bunch of dancers having fun with each other or making dance routines together for the fun of it.
i think this idea would be better in the GAT forum or dancer/musician forum,
my opinion is no maybe a reduction in skill points like ID but 0 skill points is stupid, polotitian/piolt are proffesions that were decided that they needed 0 skill point costs, especialy as piolt was an expansion and devs wouldnt want it to cost skill points
Again, not EXACTLY the correct forum, but...
A novel concept, but what about the XP? Currently Entertainer XP can be converted for Force XP at the village. I'd LOVE to be able to set my toon on an AFK macro and come back after work with a juicy load of XP to trade in, but in order to do so I would have to alter my template heavily. We have enough Jedi running around without having to deal with a plethora of AFKers coming up the ranks quickly, wouldn't you say?

the GAT is specifically Non-SWG.......if you post it there prepare for an onslaught of WFNs
Having said that....I would post where ever I could if it would get noticed and considered by the Devs...I no longer use my dancer since it is pointless for her to dance to an empty cantina and extremely boring. She owns her own cantina which is wondefully decorated and could be a great place for the city residents to visit and socialize....but there is no reason for them to sit there as bored as she is ... is there?
BUT if they could dance with her and each other as well as having some laughs over the entire thing...would be fun again.

Make Dancing and Musician professions have NO skill points like a Politician. This would encourage everyone to go for these professions and have fun again. So often I see players do the dumb /dance just so they can join in. WELL, why not allow everyone to join in. I really think it would help bring socialization back to the game and cantinas.

Your logic is false that it would encourage people to go to these profession. Politician is zero skillpoints and I don't see people flocking to this profession. Pilot is zero skillpoints and is very dependent on having the JtL expansion.
One or two professions do not bring socialization to a game. It is people that bring socialization. SWG is a MMO but like any other MMO, it is filled with people doing their own thing, alone.
Your assumption that dancers (need to include all entertainers here) would benefit because they could pick up crafting or combat, but you are assuming that they would want to. What about those that are only interested in the entertainment profession and have no interest in combat or crafting. You would belittle the profession for them and they may end up cancelling their account.
Buffbots and AFK zombies killed the profession and they survived because the combat professions tended to support that playstyle. So, if there are any complaints of a lack of entertainers, those that supported the buffbots/zombies need to take a look in the mirror.Making the entertainer profession zero skillpoints just reinforces the idea that the entertainer profession is a useless profession.
Instead, try to boost the viability of the ent profession by creating a form of symbiotic relationship between ents and other profession (such as buffs).
Have you seen where the dancing profession stands as far as the numbers go? There won't be that many accounts to cancel. There might be, however, a good number of players who stick around with some new fun in the game. As far as the buffs go...well, they are so short now that players run in put their character on listen or watch...then go to the bathroom or grab something to eat, come back and off they go. Wow, that does a lot for the fun side of the cantina.
To make this need no skill points is just plain disrespectful to those that worked their whole lives without combat skills so that they could dedicate their time to dancing or playing music. I'd like to see you try this topic in the musician or dancer forum to see how far that community that actually plays the profession lets you get.
