A number of really nice cities (towns) in good locations are suffering because of the size limit for shuttleports. Instead of an either/or proposition, how about;
- Allowing all player cities above size 1 to have shuttleports. Even today, the growth of most towns are dependant on accessability and industry, and you'll see some pretty small towns with a single strip airport...
- Give shuttleports "class" ratings. The largest cities would have Class A starports and act just as they do now. The classes would go down to the smallest (but cites need to be at least size 2 for a shuttle).
- The lower the class, the longer the wait between shuttles. A minute for Class A's, 5 for Class B's etc...this would reflect the higher traffic that would be found in larger cities.

This is an excellent idea...
The land-locking that old cities have created is really hurting cities, and I agree with your approach wholeheartedly!

totally agree.
A lot of people like to make a player city a few k away from an NPC city, so sometimes its hard to get the 55 people to join your city when they have to bike 4k-5k to get there all the time.

Awesome Idea.. but... what makes you think the DEVS will even think of changing it.. unless you go and flood cornonet like the wookies did for thier armor i doubt youll even be noticed... but great idea A+++
Also, mabye if your a lower class you can just increase the matinence?

I've said it before & I'll say it again.
Cities work backwards, It should be:
People build around something they like or need (water, shelter, food, entertainment). Too many people densly populate one area, things start to get out of hand. Government is formed tocreate policy & put into place security and other such resorces and facilities.
Because this game works backwards, You sorta need to have your pre-req before you evenbotherdropping the townhall. I dont think the system needs changing, You just need more citizens.
That leaves us in the same place as it usualy does, People complaining to theDEV/CSR teams aboutthemmaking more friends foreveryone, so that we can all have 55 of our own and createour own city.....

I think that you have missed the point of his post...
Even if you do have 5 citizens you CANNOT current get a shuttleport, because there is a limit to how many are possible on a planet and, with many dead cities on planets, a new city cannot grow while there is a dead empty one with a shuttleport.
Many of these cities have more than 55 people, but hit the cap.
I was fortunate enough to build a city in the old days when Player Cities first came out, but people who were not cannot get shuttleports.

Nice idea and suggestion. This would be great for player cities.

How about this:
Any player city can have a shuttleport (when the mayor gets the level), but a city below 55 residents only has a "regional" shuttleport, IE, the shuttle can only take you to/from the nearest starport.
That would facilitate travel, and still make the larger shuttleport a nice perk.

I like the idea of ranking shuttleports. Make it so that at level 2 your shuttleport can only go to starports and has a 10 minute timer. Level 3 you get to go to all shuttle/starports with a 10 minute timer and at level 4 it drops to 5mins and 1min at level 5. Maybe make it 5mins at level 3 and 1 at level 4?
This way all reasonable sized cities can have a shuttle but the larger the city is the more frequent the shuttles and the larger the range of destinations just like in RL.
