Thread: IDEA: Town walls
- 2 types of material: Sandstone and "normal" grey stone.
- 4types of designs: Straight piece, +-shaped piece, T-shaped pieceand bent corner piece.
- Size: 1 tile
- Rotateable like when placing houses.
- Not taking lots.
- Only placeable within town limits.
- Only placeable by Mayor.
Pro's:
- Add to town feeling.
- Marks town limits.
- Can be used as fences, giving players the fell of a yard around their house
Con's:
- Can be used to box in peoples houses, preventing them from entering their houses. This is allready possible in other ways and should be treated the same as other blockades.
Examples on the diffrent shapes/designs:

So what do you think? Other ideas what it could be used for?

Mayor places the wall, but the wall dosn't show up. (Don't worry my idea isn't done) Then a CSR has to look over the layout and approve it? Anyone think this a safe-proof plan?
My solution to griefing would be to make walls so that no more than 3 wall segments can be connected together, that way it would force a gap to be place, then perhaps things like archways can be placed in the gaps. Normal 'blocking' rules would apply (aka no blocking of content, it must be possible to enter the area (no one says it has to be easy tho). City walls would be a lower cost item that a mayor could place, and they are funded by city taxes (please please fix sales taxes!!!).
They wpuld be a city structure only (no surrounding a detachment HQ in the field w/ walls)
I would say make walls destructible but they would get greifed as everybody tries to blow them up.
But I would rather see city walls than see 500 square meters of Naboo taken up by a fort made of interlocked houses

I think they should be at the borders of the city also, the only issue with this is that the cities borders expand and detract depending on the population. Maybe it should be only available at the highest city level, and if the city goes down a level then the wall disappears automatically. Master Politician should be the one to place it, and he can place as many gates as necessary. I think adding paved roads would also be a plus and make it look like a space age city instead of a village from Everquest or something. It would be cool to add custom flags and other decorations on the walls, and maybe even place guard towers.
Lets say if you get walls at Level 3 and then move to level four, the walls would just move farther out while the existing ones would poof.

the only issue I see with this is if there are houses already in that are when it expands then what do you do. I just figured at the highest level it's at it's max, and your not going any further out, and it also makes sense from a city planning perspective because you don't have to worry about building something beyond the wall that may later be covered by the wall.
Well, either that or if the city downsizes from 4 to 3, then the walls move, but if the wall is about to intersect another structure, it goes around that structure with a 4 tile space around it(leaving enough room to get out of your house). As to archways, I think that Master Polotician makes it a great idea.
After actually thinking about this in more detail, the walls could play havoc if you put a base inside a city, then the walls and archways/entry points could be more strategic as well.
