Thread: Abandoned Player Structures & A possible solution to the problem
"I agree that inactive players should not loose everything if they are out of game. If I decide to stop playing for a month, I'd like to know that when I return all of my buildings, belongings, and credits are still there.
However, I do believe SOE should do something about this. Perhaps for an account that hasn't been payed for more than 30 days they should have all of there stuff removed from the game. If and when they return, they can then be given a placement option that allows them to put their house down in a new location (player city only if granted new zoning) and not have to worry about having lost anything.
The way I see it is that that would be the ideal approach for dealing with the problem. I don't know why soe hasn't done something like this allready.
Of course, it'd also be nice if our datapad had an additional tab that showed what structures you have, what maintenance is in them and how much power they have. Maybe even the factory status as well. It'd also be nice to know what structures you have admin rights on and their status."

That's way too much reimbursement work for the CSRs.
This would go a long ways towards taking care of the endless houses and structures left up everywhere in the game.

True, but it would take of the problem in a fashion that everyone could live with. Players in game wouldn't be getting upset about structures sitting around for a year untenanted, and players who leave for awhile would not lose everything.
I'm not sure there is even a game mechanism to force redeeding. I think SOE would be eerie of a program function to simulate a player or dev load a character and animate it to collect a player's belongings.

Nah, it could be done without the csr's needing to do a thing. Just set it up so that the server takes automatic inventory of the players houses, factories and structures. Places the items in each in a one time use only bag that would hold everything, and redeed all structures in that players name. If and when the player decides to play again, he will have a set number of days to place everything down and empty the pack before it dissappears forever.

Sounds cute, but you know CSRs can't even tie you to any structure just because you're the owner or admin. So say if you lose a wp to a harvester in the middle of nowhere. You're generally screwed at least on recovering the harvester. I think the programming is loose on tying things like that to a particular character, so doing what you suggest might be rather hard.

Or you could just wait til it is low on maintenance when you get your email telling you it's low and giving it's wp. So somewhere along the line it is tied to your character.

I still like the holochip idea someone suggested. After 60 days or so, your house will auto-redeed in your datapad. If anyone has even had a probot,etc. that can hold items/data. In your datapad you can check your probots schematics to see what's in it, this will be similar to the holochip. Once someone with this chip reactivates their account, the holochip will start a count down (say, 30 days?). Clicking the holochip and opening it, you have all the items that were in your house + your house deed. Any credits that were in the maintenance will still be there. You can then start moving your items from the chip to the house, or whatever.
This idea is somewhat complicated but I believe it could be done. This possibly won't be even considered and we will continue to wonder how to purge characters and cities.

I posted in another forum that in the past, CSR had moved houses that were accidently placed on server lines. Perhaps mayors can petition CSRs to move derelict houses to outside the maximum city limits (outside 500 m for instance).
From the looks of half the cities on the servers, that will be alot of ingame CSR contact and cooperation. Also, if the houses were to be moved 500m from the spot they are in, they will just form minitowns outside the cities and take up space while other people will just move in and fill the city. Now you got the city + all the houses around it from abandoned accounts.
