Alot of these ideas I came up with and are posted:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=citieshousing&message.id=3350

but for some reason that link does not seem to be working when I and some of my friends use it so I have decided to start a new thread reviewing some of my ideas as well putting in some new ones that I came up with in an "Easy-To-Read" Format so you can pick out what you like and comment on it.

1) City Pavement: The way I finally decided this would be best is to flatten out the land within city boundaries (Excluding water) and replace the grass with pavement. There could be a selection at city hall for which one and the nicer ones could probably cost alittle extra.

2) Music In Houses/Shops: This is an idea I have been pitching for along time thatI feel would help give players alittle more ambiance in thier houses. It's very possible now with the release of the juke boxes. All it'd require is alittle more work. Could probably make it so you can choose which room has the song by adding a menu to the door along with that and my next idea which is...

3) Permission Restrictions: Another idea I have been pitching since almost the launch of the game, which is to add a radial menu to the door to set entry/admin permissions to the room behind it. This way you can prevent theft in player houses and give players who want their room to be off limits to otheres (IE thier personal office) the ability to finally do so, instead of placing signs near the door that are usually ignored. (I see it all the time, and to be honest I too am guilty of just ignoring them lol)

4) Houses W/ Yards: Yet another idea that I have been pitching for awhile, yards. Asheron's Call and Dark Ages Of Camelot have them, why not Star Wars Galaxies? Item positioning could be set up the same as it is inside of structures now. It could also include some new objects like new walls/fences, columns and roofing (For creating costom patios), little cement slabs that could come in different sizes to make pathways and little cement areas, speeders (Could probably be made by accessing your data pad and selecting your vehicle to make a replica schematic or something for you to build and then place in your house or yard, and maybe a little pond of some sort, etc. They could also use the same principle of flattening out the land around them like the NPC spawns do.

5) Bridges: The way this could be set up is it could be made into sections (IE: there would be an Entery, Middle piece, and another Entrey peice at the end for costom length) This way you can make cities look alittle nicer and maybe even make a pier out of them by leaving out the final peice.

6) Apartments: Many players have already used up their lots and want a place to place their stuff and create a home. The way they could work is one person would place the complex and would have to pay maitence on it, however they could set how much rent costs thier tennants and the money would automatically be deducted from their maitence terminal in their apartment to the main one that could either be kept for maitence or pocketed by the landlord. The landlord could probably have some sort of way of assigning the apartments through the main terminal and would be unable to access the other apartments unless permission was given by the tennent (To prevent theft) Each apartment could hold around 120 items and could probably be made up of 1 or 2 rooms. All it'd take to make this a reality is alittle work, besides the tatooine one is already completed (As seen in the slums of bestine slightly north of the cloning center)

7) Objects on Guild Hall Patios: The title pretty much says it all so there is no need to go into detail describing this one like I did with #6. THe only other comment I have is also adding in starship terminals that permissions could be granted to by owner to other players for them to take off and land there.(Or have the ability to make Public with a limit of how many?)

8) Storage Space In Speeders: Something I have brought up before, this would deffinently help people who are in the painful process of moving greatly.

9) Cities of WAR/COMMERCE: Another one that I have been pitching for awhile, this could help further improve the GCW(Galatic Civil War), by having cities that are specilized as "Strongholds" to beable to declare war upon one another. The winner could probably get some sort of reward and the money in city maitence pool.

10) Decorative City Obejcts: An idea that has been brought up before, this could help give cities more diversity and help fill in those empty spots around the city. Again, alot of the work is already done with designing the actual buildings... all it has to do is be enabled for player cities to place them.

Well, thats pretty much all of my ideas... May add some more later on, but until then feel free to post some of your own here or opinions/comments on mine.

(PS: Sorry #6 is so long, got alittle carried away there lol)

I like numbers 1-4 and 6 the best. Apartments could really help me. All my lots are currently occupied by harvestors.

/agree... The way I invision a city in my eyes would make SWG so grand I dont think I would ever leave

Instead of building walls just everywhere they should place them just on the radius of the city border, which of course is flattened. Lots of ppl will ask me how they can place a large area of flat land in a always changing terrian? if u place a village which whould be just some what bigger then a master rangers camp, then after it is placed all nest within a distance go threw a destroy cycle which either there destroyed by a player and not replaced or they are destroyed by server tomake room for the next phase of the town.

-----------------------------

They need to increase the lvls of city planning...

Phase 1 - Village: City Hall, only small houses, No city perks

Phase 2 - Town: City Hall, PA,SM/Medium houses, Small perks banks lights ex.

Phase 3 - City: City Hall, PA, SM/MED/Large houses, Better perks shuttleCloneCenter guardens ex.

Phase 4 - **

Stronghold - Bonus to city defense, turrents, gates, militas, BIG WALLS **Mabye turrents for afaction aligned city?** ex.

Metroplish - Bonus to merchants ex.

ScienceCenter - Bonus to Crafting/Medican ex.

**Mayors choice to pick, based on there citys goals and plans

hospitals and clones at same lvl as cantina, shuttle at town rank 3 theatre at lvl on city as its a big thing and should belong to a city and keep the city specs at same lvl as they are now, surly having 20-35 ppl in a town they should be able to use a hospital and clone center otherwise if u do die instead of cloning probably 1-2k from where u where u could clone 6-7k from your town which really negates of mission terms in towns as noobs die often and so do vets on harder planets,

so thats lvl 1 normal

lvl 2 hospital, cantina , clone , shuttle (this would encourage lower lvl players into joining a player town on planets that are played less like lok)

lvl 3 theatre and also possible hiring npcs for a police force in town like npc towns (thus the npc's could city ban players who attack the town or when faction affiliated guard the town as all being factioned does now is ban the other faction from the facilities and is really just boring in this gcw enviroment)

There are some really awesome ideas here, especially in terms of new city decorations and other objects that make a city feel more like.. well a city.

I want to throw my support behind the city pavement idea. Realistically, people have the ability to do this. Also realistically, people would not settle in an area with huge ditches right in the main thoroughfares.

Furthermore, this would enable more realistic-looking city development, with straight lines of houses rather than randomly-placed squatter homes... more like real life.

Also, it is a pet peeve of mine that the gardens all stand up out of the land, and especially so when the land is uneven. If this were implemented, they could remove the little brick "curb" that surrounds each garden, and placing several gardens together could look like they were all one garden, rather than three lumpy things next to each other.

I also want to say this... if trees and flowers can grow in the "wild" of swg on tilted terrain, so should the player gardens be able to do.

My $.02.

I've heard a lot of doubt by people saying that devs indicated that server load would be over burdened by attempting to load a city full of pavement and walls in addition to all the structures. I'm not sure how serious this would be or not, but if there was a cost per pavement piece, maybe the devs could use pavement/walls as another money sink if they needed one without raising taxes elsewhere.

Walls might do that, perhaps, but i don't see how pavement would affect the server load, as the server would only have to recognize the ground pattern "150m from this point" or 500m or whatever, the distance of the city boundariesfrom the city-hall.

Yeah but the ground isn't flat all the time. It's usually uneven. Pavement would probably flatten the land similar to the way a camp flatten land, except it would do it on semi-permanent basis. So the pavement would have to be loaded, it wouldn't be a simple ground color change.

BTW, they are also going to have a Player City Revamp... they briefly discussed it at:

This is what that link says about Player Cities. SWG Vault mentions Player City Revamps, SOE is non-committal about them, so no, don't spread false rumors about an up-coming Player City Revamp.

Player City Questions

SWG Vault: We've heard you [SOE] state previously that revamps to player cities would be considered in the future. Could you share any of these ideas with us? Some of the ideas I've heard includes star ports in player cities. Is this idea viable and again, could you share any other ideas you may have up to this point?

Julio: Currently all player city changes are only discussions and possibilities, we are really focused on the combat upgrade and the launch of our next expansion The Rage of the Wookiees.

Rather than a player-run appartment complex, how about instanced appartments inside NPC Cities? Lets take Theed, for example. There are pleanty of buildings...it shouldn't be too hard to turn one of them into an appartment block. You have a foyer, and a lift. You go to the foyer, search for the appartment number, or the player, or something like that (you'd have a list of ones you have access to). You select one, step in the lift, and get taken to an instanced floor with one or two appartments.

You'd rent appartments (and you could also do rooms in the hotels the same way...hotel rooms would be smaller) for a set fee, for a set period. At the end of that period, you'd either need to go back home and pay the super more time, or you'd get "evicted". Being evicted would give you a day or two's grace, in which you have time to move your stuff. If you don't move it, everything from your appartment gets moved to a storage place somewhere in the city, you get fined, and have to "buy" your stuff back.

There'd be a limit on the number of appartments/hotel rooms in each building (obviously). The eviction thing would make sure that all of the appartments don't get "hogged" by existing players. You'd get a lower item storage than a house, but the rent would also be less. They could re-cycle old buildings, and add new ones.

Also, if they added warehouses to NPC buildings, players would be able to pay for extra storage to keep items in. The same system could work with JTL at starports (renting a "hangar" to keep your ship in).
