Thread: My ARITHMETIC System for pricing Chef foods.
I was trying to come up with a perfect way to sell food. I've had many attempts, but most either over or underprice items or the cost varies too wildly depending on quality. Here's the best I can do. Now, it's important to use a calculator to get accurate answers. I always have a calculator by my side anyway to speed up trade interactions. Also, this system isn't perfect. Since pricing is subjective (as we learned in the other pricing thread), some people may think the final price in this system is too expensive, or too cheap as the case may be. Here it is:
Multiply the [duration in seconds] times the [total amount of points healed]
Divide [answer] by 1000, or one thousand.
Multiply [answer] by the [amount of servings].
EXAMPLE - Starshine Surprise
Multiple the duration, [400 seconds], times points healed [120 Str + 120 Sta - 40 Foc]
Divine answer, [80,000], by 1000
Multiple answer, [80] by amount of servings, [4]
Starshine Surprise (4 servings) = 320 credits
If I use this formula on Bofa Treats, Kinali Wafers, and Tatooine Sunburn:
Bofa Treats (6 servings) = 30 credits
Kinali Wafers (5 servings) = 130 credits
Tatooine Sunburn (1 serving) = 900 credits (assuming the duration is 300 credits. I don't know the exact duaration).
FLAWS:
1) I already pointed this out. Since pricing is subjective, and well, SHOULD be subjective to avoid everything costing the same price everywhere, the final prices are open to dispute. I'm sure 50% of you think that 320 creds for a Starshine is too much. On the other hand, if you consider the fact that Starshine is the second best chef drink available--and consider the fact that most people will buy it at 320 anyway--you realize that 320 isn't too overpriced. That's my opinion though, not yours.
2) The system treats duration and amount buffed as equals. For example, a 100 second (1 minute, 40 second) increase for the duration increases the price just as much as a 100 buff increase. But we all know that a 100 buff increase is far more valuable than a 100 second duration increase.
3) The system does not take time or resources into account. For example, if two items had the EXACT same duration, amount buffed, and servings, but one item required 20 less resources...then still, both foods would cost the same. Although, it's logical that the one that needed the extra resources should cost more. Therefore, the system only looks at the final result, and not the process building up to it.
ANYWAY, personally, I don't even use this system yet, although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. I'm not asking you to use it...just maybe if you're not sure how to set your prices this is a good guide to figure out that perfect price. I'm going to start using it for all my future food. After selling Starshines for 200 though, I don't think my customers would like a 120 credit increase. But as soon as I get Watsil bread, I plan on using this system.
The tat sunburn lasts 6mins. We can't sell it for 900 thou, there is not enough interest from people in food yet. And sadly there are now spices more powerful than it available....

Ahazi
And the bazaar is packed with the spices... I mean this stuff is supposed to be DRUGS... smuggled in by Smugglers... WHY IS IT ON THE OPEN MARKET?
You should have to go out and find a smuggler to get spice... sheesh.
Hahahaha... just like people don't understand that food and drink rules, they also don't understand that spices suck. When their effect runs out - it reverses. Hopefully people will start to realize that and buy from us Chefs.
VIVA LA CHEFS!
I sent a email to everyone I saw on search yesterday (ctrl p search everyone)

Woke up this morning my vender is completly sold out and Ihave 10 emails asking me too restock

I refuse to stoop to spamming. I hate it in reallife and I sure don't want to see it here.
ReblSoldier, it's a good thing you didn't put your server there - you'd have been spammed by everyone in the whole server lol. Spammers are idiots - if you really want to advertise your wares, either A) Get Merchant, B) Go into a city and politely shout it out every few minutes, or C) Hire people to hawk your wares.
I could never price my sunburn at 900 a serving and get away with it.
Already with cooking I can make stacks of 4 or 5 half the time. I sell at 250 per use, and leave a note in description that I do mass discounts. I have factories gring out starshines, and two days in a row now I've gotten orders for over 10K worth of sunburn. As interest rises, I will increase prices, and it probably wont be that long till I may charge 300-400/use, but we must remember, that these are temporary buffs, and aren't as valuable as something lasting longer. To increase your profit margins, remember you can learn extra cooking to make even bigger stacks(I'll be at cooking II in a few hours and comment on results then)

I think you're all overreacting about ReblSoldier's post. This is a discussion of chef pricing issues, and what he posted is perfectly aproprriate, not spamming in this context.

Excuse me, but the defanition of spam is unsolicited email that sells a product or service. And that is what he sent out. Can you imagine if every merchant of every type did this? Our ingame email box would look as bad as our RL email boxes.
J2, you continue to piss me off, no offense ![]()
But c'mon, if you can sell them for 900 creds, go for it! SELLING THEM CHEAP DOES NOT HELP THE ECONOMY, or other chefs. Selling them cheap only helps YOUR reputation, and thanks to your PA, you don't need anymore popularity.
I beg to differ. Selling something cheap does not hurt the economy, it only hurts individuals who rely on the income that they are losing by being undercut.
No matter how you slice it, supply and demand is working. I sell my food for relatively cheap - not less than it costs me to make, but my profit margin is fairly low. I could sell cheaper if I gather all my own resources (costing me nothing but time), but in the end, the amount of resources any person can gather is limited by either time or money. Therefore, nobody will be able to provide excessively inexpensive food indefinitely or in infinite quantities. As long as demand outpaces the availability of cheap product, there will be room for profit.
Considerring I can make stacks of 5 sunburns, do you think anyone would really want to pay 4500 to get one? Each use lasts a bit over 6 minutes. It takes about20 minutesto get that much money running missions taking 2 in the same direction. So, we have 30 minutes of great stats, at a price of 20 minutes of missions. I know I wouldn't buy it.
With a stack of 3(probably my current average size), it sells for 750, and costs me 100 resources to make, so I'm getting back 7.5 times the resource cost. I'm now making 25K a day selling like this. I'm going to push up my prices 50 credits a day until I see demand slow down, and stay there, unless it rises again beyond what I can supply
