You treat is just like you were surveying for a harvester. Since you have to be a certain distance from the person giving the mission, head outside town and start looking. If you go at least 1000 meters outside town, to another town or planet, then you dont have to worry about finding a source too close to the mission giver.

You only have to do a successful survey of the appropriate concentration to complete the mission. Reasons to take survey missions.

1) You already know some high concentration locations and can take just those survey missions for quick completion.

2) You are already planning to search for that resource type

I'd like to know what the best non-creature handler pet is, for someone pursuing the Fencer profession.

Since Bio Engineering was re-vamped, your best bet would be to speak to a BE and get them to mix one up for you. Depending what you're looking for (i.e. a damage-dealing pet, a tank or a combination) they'll be able to help you out.

Okay. So, I take it you're a BE. What would you suggest?

Yes, I'm a BE and a CH

The thing is, it's not as simple as saying, "I want a dewback because it's better than a gurnaset." It's all about what the BE uses to create the pet. The physical appearance has little relation (if any) to the creature's actual performance.

I'm a way off becoming a Master BE, but so far I've managed to mix up a pet with 8000 or so HAM, 35% kinetic resist, 20% blast resist and about 200 damage output. However, that clocked in at level 14, so you couldn't use it.

Speak to a BE and explain that you want something with high HAM/resists, high damage or a mix of both tank and offensive abilities. However, remember that you can't have it all ways, so if you request a higher HAM, expect lower damage and vice versa.

Im going to a crafting question and thinking about Chef. I i make to slow money on my combat and get somtimes boored of the instant fighting so i want to make some extra money besides...

I would like to know if chef is a good making money skill? I have no ideas how many money the diffrents crafting skills are making in the average. is chef the right skill to pick? Or is there a better crafting skill to go after?

Thanks in any advice!

Chef takes some work to master...but its not that much different than other professions if you plan on grinding it.

Whether you can make money at it....yes you can. Not to say being master chef automatically makes you rich.....but if you place your vendor in a good location, keep it regularly stocked with high quality foods and beverages....people will learn of the location, and the word will spread etc. Once you build a customer base...you can expect very good returns on your business as long as you continue to provide a good service.

Nothing turns customers off more than to find a vendor empty all the time....or stocked very infrequently.

Being a chef is definitely lucrative. I won't say exactly how much I've made, but since opening this past Friday I've made back a surprisingly large portion of what I've spent on the profession so far (including what I spent on grind resources).

If you're just in it for a quick buck though, you may want to rethink it. Being a chef is not quick. The grind can go by quickly (you cango from novice artisan to master chefin less than a day if you work at it and don't mind carpal tunnel), but with all the factory runs, the looking for resources, the hunting to get your own fauna, and just the wait time and constant checking of factories (I can't leave mine alone, despite the "watched pot never boiling" adage) it'll take up a lot of your time. I've spent almost all my time in-game taking care of chef-related things, even though sometimes it's more because I enjoy it and less because I have to.

On the plus side, you'll find that a lot of chefs really love what they do. Armorsmiths get into the business to make money, architects because they love to decorate, and chefs...well...we love to cook and brew! You'll be hard pressed to find a profession that's more gratifying and makes so many people happy. (How many times do you hear someone go, "Wow! I can't believe you have a T21 in stock!" Not many, I would venture to say.) I entered the business because I needed a change of pace from the constant solo missions and endless loot hunting, and there just so happened to be a +20 outfit for sale. I took the plunge and couldn't be happier with my decision.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.
