Thread: I love chef, but... well

you know I was so excited when I saw the chef changes coming. Now, I dread them. What are we going to make in all practicallity that people will buy. Pet buffs? I wonder how I will stay in business, and so far chef was the really only crafting proffession that I really liked. With the barrels and components needed from Artisans and other proffessions, it is only going to be harder to make the foods.

And I see very little pratical selling items.

I tend to lurk in the forums rather than post, but right now I seem very disheartened. And I worked very very hard to make Master Chef. (course glad I'm done and not starting after the changes go in. Thought it took long time to grind now, wait till you only get 21xp per item)

I have a friend who is a Master DE, and now she dreads whatever changes will be coming her way after seeing the changes here.

Thanks for listening, maybe someone can add a hopeful note here.

The problem w/ most of you is that you haven't done combat in a while, or have never done combat. The combat section of my guild is VERY excited, even when they saw the non-experimented, non-BE comp foods. I think we have quite a few food items that will sell well. Don't panick till we see what can be done w/ these foods w/ all the additives and things. We haven't even had a chance to do half of the stuff we could do w/ good resources and components.

Thats part of the problem If the foods are going to require to additives to be worthwhile, there is NO WAY a BE can keep up with our demand, especially since he requires meats to make all the additives.

If we don't panic and make noise now, the chance to do so will be lost. The Devs won't be revisting chef for a very long time. The buffs we get out of this unvamp are going to be the buffs live with for a very long time. If there is enough there for ya, good on you.

The stat buffs are not an upgrade anda majorityof the skill buffs are meaningless. That isn't something I want to sit on my hands about and let just happen so we can see how things go once it's in the game.

Chef was pretty good profession before this unvamp, and will be a pretty good profession should the unvamp go live. But I wasn't looking for pretty good. Chef could have been made great. This was the window of opportunity to make it great, and once this is allowed to go live, that window closes.

BE's have told me they suffered the same worries about their revamp for a couple weeks till they figured everything out, then they became essential to the CH's with the awesome pets they now make. I've had no problem finding BE's who are willing to make loads of BE Comps for me. They're just as excited as I am. Plus, we haven't even tested w/ good resources. If you don't have good resources, you're not going to make good food.

Define loads of components please? If im going to put be components in everthing I make Im going to needroughly 9-10k a day. I run 14 factories nonstop. I seriously dont think a BE will be able to keep up.

But then again, with the new food looking so...stinky. Im sure my sales will drop considerably so I probably will have to cut my volume back a large amount. Yea it very well may not be a problem for a BE to supply me with the stuff I need if Im selling the new stuff. No one will want it so sales should really crawl.

Then don't use components, it's really that simple. Isn't that how the economy works? Supply and Demand, and if you can't keep up, you fade out. There are very few companies that provide for themselves 100%, and the same should be said about players. Highest quality food isn't ment for EVERYONE, I think that was the intent. The economy right now is so poor that the rich get richer and the poor buy off Ebay, I mean really, it's crap. There needs to be some way to try and stabilize this economy, and just because you can't supply every SEA farmer and Ebayer on your server that will be willing to pay top dollar for what you have to charge doesn't mean the revamps not a good idea. Mediocre stuff that isn't best will STILL sell, I can almost guarantee it, you just won't be able to charge top dollar. We can't be self sufficient, we need to spread the wealth around and get some PtP interaction going. Cooperation.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fighting for better buffs and faster food digestion too, I'm just saying that this may not be as bad as most people think.

I think that's a point of view that has been missing in the effect discussions, for probably the reason you bring up: not many people do both chef and combat (besides some low-level creature meat/hide harvesting). Of course, if there is a chef who also has an elite combat profession, I'd love to hear his/her input.

Based on the initial reports (Ezran's "Complete list of revamped food" is the bestlist I've seen) what skill bonuses or stat buffslook the most useful for someone in combat? Is it the defense bonuses? I would think Defense vs. Knockdown would be popular with PvPers considering the reported "uberness" of TKA. Accuracy or defense mods? Stat buffs? Since most combat classes have a "core stat" (Health, Action, Mind) that they're specials come from, would the HAM drink trio (Accaragm for Action/Quick/Stam, Garrmorl for Health/Str/Con, and Vassarian Brandy for Mind/Focus/Will) be used to beef up that core stat, or to shore up another stat, depending on stat migration to keep their core competancy? Is an emergency snack of Won-Won (+500 str/con for 5 mins) worth keeping 75% of your food bar empty beforehand and having to wait 34 minutes to digest it (counting from the time of consumption)?

I currently have a reputation for selling some of the best food on my server. That IS my niche. I dont make mediocre food. Removal of my ability to experiment components and use varieties of alchoholand the necessicity to use flavoring to make *anything* I make good, will elminate my niche. There wont be very many great chefs around because suddenly we cant do ANYTHING unless a BE allows. I never said I want to be independent. I already use BE components. I use them to make my food better *WHEN* I can get them. But in the current situation our food does not SUCK without them. See, thats where the problem comes. Our food shouldnt REQUIRE BE components to be something someone will want. People should want our food for what it does, with BE components being icing on the cake and making them better. Not, well I want some food but only if it has BE components because otherwise it sucks.

The prospect of taking the business I built based on making the best quality food made on my server and turning into a mediocre quality business is rather a slap in my face. I didnt spend the past 6 months building my business to have it turned into a pile of stinkin poodoo because there is no bio-engineer that can keep up with my need to make food that doesnt suck.

Tell me another profession that will rely 100% on another elite profession to be able to make *anything* worthy of selling.

Im rather insulted at being told well then you should make mediocre food. I didnt become a chef to make crap. I became a chef to make the best food I can. This patch removes that ability in any viable form.

The BE components are not required btw, it is optional. And it's not proven that these are the best alternative either. We don't know how much excellent resources will change these buffs. All of you claim to be the "Best on the Server." Well I do all this crap too, "sell out of fishak in a day," "constantly filling factories," etc and I've talked with the combat people I supply, I've gotten their opinions, and the response is positive. Have you even talked to any combat people recently?

Oh and as for your little cutsey remark about the economy and supply and demand and if I cant keep up then Ill fade away. Well see theres a problem with that theory. I can promise you that in rl where you pulled your little economic lesson from, tomorow we wont all be eating aluminum as our main meal because some world leader felt we should. The fact that my business wont be able to keep up has nothing to do with economy or the fact that I run an incompetent business. It has everything to do with someone getting a hair up his bu** and deciding oh from now own everyone will eat this way. In a world where the dev can do whatever he wants whenever he wants, your economic law is bogus. The only rule that reigns is the Dev can do whatever he wants. My business wont fail because I cant keep up, my business will fail because someone felt the need to radically change the game. In simple terms, a dev will put me out of business. Not some supply and demand bullcrap thanks the same, my business is how it is because I *can* handle the supply and demand. I find your post rather insulting that you think its perfectly ok for devs to ruin peoples hard work. And you practically told me to fade away. How obnoxious can you get.

All in all it looks to me like this another way to "discourage monopolies" As if there were such a thing in a freaking game where everyone can do everything. You probably believe that statement too. Another RL thing that someone tried to say happens in this game that simply doesnt. There can be no monoply when everyone can do the same thing if they want. Anyone who has a large business based on quality products will lose business due to their inability to keep BE additives on hand in the amount they need. IE - kill the big businesses because they are monopolies /rolls eyes.

No I sit in a bubble in my factory all day long. Of course Ive talked to my customers. My customers have even posted here regarding the change. My customers have also posted on mygalaxy board regarding the change. And finally Im forced to talk to my customers about revamp every day dueto the fact I have to sell crates with warnings attached now that they may not be any good things to our upcoming revamp. I dont think I have one of the best products on my server. I *KNOW* I do ok. I was there when there were 4 chefs on the whole server. I check out the new chefs that pop along which until the last 4 weeks was easy to do as there werent many. I trained most of them. My customers tell me all the time that I make the best food around. I have more time to play than most people do. I use that time to my advantage. Im not talking about vendors selling out, Im talking about the product itself. The reason my business works is because I found a niche and filled it.

Perhaps you could stop thinking that you are the only one that knows anything about combat or talks to your customers. I personally have a master smuggler/CH. My husband has BH/Ranger. While I dont get to play my combat class very often, I *do* know how to play her. In addition to that I do talk to my customers, many on a regular basis about their regimen and what they do and how it affects their play.
