Thread: Why does stomach decay over one hour? Why not have it work like other buffs....

I use chef foods, alot.....And while the revamp looks "ok", there is a problem I have with it.....

Why not just make filling fill your stomach until the buff fades? When the buff fades, the filling fades with it.....Would this not prevent buff stacking (Which is what they are worried about from the looks of it)....Not to mention it would make food alot less complicated for most of us combat types who use it......

Any comments? Am I missing something Important?

I agree 100% with this statement. You could still experiment filling. Filling simply means can I eat 1 or 2 or 3. I think for me personally, there are a lot of things I really dont like about the revamp. But eliminating stomach decay would probably make me much more willing to accept the patch. Even with stomach decay gone, ingeneral we still can buff less. About the only tweak I see that glares right off as would be necessary would be the filling on BoH. But even then the more I think about it,with it being only in stacks of 1 I'm not positive I feel that way. If it was like a stack of 5-6, Id say that the filling should be made so that you cant take more 2. Its pretty obvious the devs dont really want us going over that 500 mark much if it all.

The cost of BOH in a 1 use stack will incur heavy price and time (baking) penalties. That in itself may be enough to discourage huge stacking but... probably not. It would be nice to know if all master foods being in 1 use stacks is a bug or not. I think our customers are going to be very displeased when they find out its going to cost them more per use and they are going to have to come to our shops a lot more often (of course this assumes they want to use it) You think BoH spends a lot of time in factory now with its high numbered stacks just wait til its being made in 1 use stacks *laugh*.Its an awful good thing complexities are reduced cause if people really decide to use it, we are going to have to pump it out in huge qtys to supply enough 1 use stacks to people.

There are two problems.

1. A lot of this stuff is instant effects. Like Blue Milk heals mind instantly. If you have a crate of Blue Milk you can just take it over and over again as you fight. There needs to be a limit to that.

2. Unlike other buffs, our buffs stacks. There needs to be a system so that we can't take everything at once...that would be too unbalancing.

1) you are right hadnt thought about the blue milk...hrmm have to ponder that one. Tho I think this would be the only exception?

2) Filling should take care of that. You can still have a stomach fill based on 100. Brandy is filling 33. Ok I can take 3 brandy. But then my stomach is full. But then I can drink 3 more when that wears off. This is basically how it works now I assume since we can eat 1 of some things and 2 of other things. The only difference would be (to use a familiar item) instead of automatically being able to eat 2 rsychates, the ability to eat 2 or 1 would be determined by your chefs capability.

Blue Milk = mind Stim, ie needs a timer. The rest off the food needs to not stack. Then the stomach isn't needed. As soon as the buff is gone, you can take another. In this reguard a stomach isn't a bad thing, as we can stack the buffs, or drink Blue Milk a few times in a row with no timer. In a PvP battle you only need a few hits and then can go diguest in peace. In that reguard the stomach is over power compared to a timer.

It is a trade off. Personally if the buffs were good enough that we didn't need to stack 2 or 3 to get a desirable effect, I would say dump the stomach and go with single buff only - no stomach. Though that would mean you can pretty much take all the different food buffs at once. Not sure if that is over powering or not, as there are not that many that can work together and stacking the buffs can in fact be more over powering that a bunch of smaller buffs in different areas.

hehe actually I thought about blue milk....Give things like blue milk a set time to decay, much like now....This would only apply to stat/skill buffs....

I would agree, some buffs would need to be increased in filling (like BoH)....But I feel like it would be far easier to balance if you knew exactly how much you could eat at one time.....

Like, if I was a dev and I knew BoH would fill between 45-55 (depending on experiment)....Then I could balance it with the knowledge that the player will only ever have a max of 2 in thier system at any one time.

With this new system though, it just seems like some foods are way off-balance, to try to compensate for the "possibility" of stacking.....

Might just be me, but I think they are making it way moe complicated then needs to be

Realistically in thecontext of a RP game, Idon't think that i want to see SWGers eating non-stop. That can't be healthy for them... But in the context of buffing, it doesn't make much sense to limit how much of a buff you can recieve, or when/ how the delay till you can apply further buffs should be handled. I think it might be easier to eliminate all stat buffs and solely do mod effects or other kinds of instant effects rather than buffs giving duration. The idea that eating a certain food strengthens your mind isn't very plausible anyway. There is already a system in place to buff people's mind stats with master dancers / musicians. And while there is no equivalent to doc buffs, in that you can buff yourself in the field (camp) maybe the combat folks will just have to accept that, and change their stats accordingly.

With the upcoming HAM changes, we might see that the need for stat buffs decreased. Assuming they don't though, and the need for instant stat buffs is still around, I think the most sensible way to tackle this problem is think of it like a puzzle as previously suggested. How many of these drinks can I eat before I get full? And for stomach "decay" a system like a TEF I think would be fine. A certain amount of time after combat has ended (providing you don't enter further combat) your character digests the food, and is ready to eat some more. The duration for the buffs would still be normal though. So If you take a 5 min quickness buff, and keep fighting for 30 mins, the buff wears off after 5 mins. After you finally stop fighting (or die, incap shouldn't "empty" stomach) X (5 mins or so like how long a TEF takes to go away seems fair to me) time goes by, your character burps and is ready to eat some more. This type of system I'd be very happy to work around as a combat character.

And anyway, I think we (chefs) should all just calm down about the upcoming changes. At least we are Seeing some changes. I know I'm grateful. Just think about those poor BHs, Squad Leaders, Pikemen, the list goes on and on... We're getting milk, new clothes, and a new role. Don't worry chefs,be happy.

By the way, I am not arguing for an hour decay rate. Personally, I like half an hour. I think that would work really well...making it a bit challenging without making it a chore.

But I am doing my best to present both the half hour decay rate and the instant rebuff to the developers.

There are delayed effect buffs as well (Starshine).

How would you deal with those?

What happens if you've used up 6 of the 18 uses of your heal buff, and don't plan on using it again for a long time. What then?

There are definately certain foods that have to have some sort of timer on them. Basically those that don't have one built into them.

If I take something that is +50 mind for 30 minutes. I see no reason why after 30 minutes I can't just consume another one. I would not be against a small timer like spices have either, but make this timer a fixed amount. So I can take something x time after it ends if it is 15 minute duration or 30 minute duration.

Stat buffs and food that is x times should have a timer. I don't know if 30 minutes is good or not, but certain things I would like to see a lot lower. For instance 80%ish dmg reduce over next 3 hits. Ok 30 minutes isn't horrible, but why would 10 or 15 minutes be that bad?

Also wondering if the stomach emtpies upon death?

I agree with SirVimes battle...

Is there a message when your character digests food?
