Thread: Anyone notice this change on TC today?

the, uh, salient details:
Misc

* Fixed problem that can cause the stomach not to empty.
* Reduce the stomach empty time for a full stomach to 30 minutes.

I've got mixed reactions. On the one hand, reducing stomach decay time makes a lot of the tier IV/master level foods considerably more useful, and 30 is just a much cleaner number for figuring out good buff combinations. On the other, the few most powerful foods (Brandy/Ahrisa) just got a boost they really don't need. What do the rest of you think?

Personally, I think Brandy (and its sister products, I suppose) should see a duration reduction in the interest of balance.

Hm, yes, could be a bit too powerful now. Rather than a reduction, I'd prefer the foods to be made non-stackable, but I can see the problems this would cause ("Wait - I can't use Brandy and Ahrisa together because they both buff Focus?"). They'd have to make a "highest buff wins" for each stat.

On the other hand if you don't double/triple buff, this makes for some nice combinations. Some minutes after brandying, you have room in your stomach for a nice Elshandruu - barely anyone uses them ATM.

Or perhaps we'll see stronger brandy, since less experimentation will need to go toward duration? Or do most chefs beef up duration last anyway?

my Brandy would increase some if I didn't have to experiment duration, but not much. You see, I make +435/45min Brandy, and my resources cap at 440 or so, so there isn't much room to improve. I suppose it opens the door for some other niche markets (take two shots of 42 fill Brandy and have room for Ithorian Mist also! or some such combination), but I imagine I'd probably keep making 45 min duration stuff for the most part and just be happy with being able to triple stack it instead of double.

I think the biggest change will be that being able to drink an extra Brandy means needing less Ahrisa, so there's more opportunity for new Food uses. Brandy's still going to rule the roost as far as drinks go.

Sounds like 60 minute brandy is now in order.


I get the feeling we may see a duration nerf on those foods in the CU.

Most chefs have build their stock and resources around the 45 minutes.

I almost hit the cap on Nutrition on Brandy and still get 45 minutes or more. I can't get below 30 minutes on Brandy anyway
So, well sure, while 45 minutes Brandy is still nice, its not really that essential anymore. You can double-stack even unexperimented Brandy now.

You can be perma-buffed on 1 Canape all the time (as long as you eat nothing else), not sure if anyone will though.

This might be an attempt to make it "easier" for new Chefs to get into the game. I think while that is a valid attempt, I think they have overdone it again.
Filling is a major issue on most food. Either in a way that you need to plan it to eat all that you want, or that you can keep it long enough in your stomach.
Ok, I agree I'm biased here, since I'm a 12 point chef. But now the difference between some new chef who does some brandy with the first resources he finds and ends at 420, 35 minutes (not to hard, with some resources with 800+ in OQ/PE and decent additives) and a 12 point chef who has spend tons of time and money in gathering resources and makes some 420 with 47 minutes (or so) is not that high anymore, since you can double-stack both of them now (ok, I guess the 12 pt ones still sell better)

Well granted, there are a lot of things, that are still only really possible for 12 pointers beside Brandy
And since its coming, guess we have to accept it, and see how it goes.

This is NOT a change. This is a bug fix that's about a year in coming. I'd clicky you a link to the original patch notes for the chef revamp, that clearly state the stomach was supposed to empty in 30 minutes right in the notes, but the december 03 thru feb 04 patch notes are conveniently missing from the main updates site. For all of you complaining that your food is based on a 45 minute timer... Wow, you're just completely missing it


Time 0minutes: Drink 1 brandy, 50% stomach, 400+ buff

Time 15minutes: Stomach emtpy, drink 1 brandy 50% stomach, 800+ buff

Time 30minutes: Stomach emtpy, drink 1 brandy 50% stomach, 1200+ buff

Time 45minutes: Stomach empty, first brandy wears off, drink 1 brandy, 50% stomach 1200+ buff


With a 30 minute stomach you can maintain 3 brandies in your stomach at all times, AND you never go over 50% on the stomach, so you always have an emergency reserve. Oh, looky there, people are using your foods 50% faster, that means what? Oh yeah, a 50% boost in sales


Add to that the coming of the CU. I don't think it comes to a supprise to anyone that doc buffs are gonna get a severe toning down in the CU, which means food variety is going to be VERY important. Instead of 3 brandies, you could do one each of VB, accarragm, and garrmorl for a full time 9 stat buff of 400. These three things, along with ahrisa and it's sister products do NOT need a duration reduction. Think of the big picture here.


Oh, speaking of Garrmorl, I know it's hardly in use at all now, what with ridiculous doc buffs and all, but I think you all REALLY REALLY REALLY need to harp on the devs about fixing this one so it can be experimented properly. Oh, and might I recommend you start harvesting resources for this? Might come in handy.

I knew that it's was intented to be 30 min, but our popular products aren't just meant to be that way.

How do you figure? Now maybe I could see what you were saying if they were increasing time to an hour, but howis your popular foods lasting longer than it takes to decay "not meant to be"? Obviously it was meant to be, otherwise the devs wouldn't have coded it like that in the first place. Honestly I think the 45 minute timer was to tone down food buffs while the CURB was ready, now that the CURB is looming over the horizon, the devs are letting you all unleash the full potential of your products. Saying "it's not ment to be" is so short sighted it's not funny.

How could this be in anyway contrured as bad?

More food combinations can now be had. Personally i won't be using my 4 points on duration anymore, but on filling.
