Thread: Anyone else considering dropping Chef ?

I make ~400cr a day selling food/drink
I can't give it away to most people
Master Artisan can buff better in most cases - Exo-Protein wafers are over 65 con/will for 200sec after experimentation and you can eat a minimum of 4 for a 260/200sec buff, whereas Master chef items are 1 at a time.
The line is totally fubar with a Mixology II item outbuffing ALL others

Looking at Holocron's latest post, I see the only Chef fix for the "update" so far is already in the game, so doesn't even apply, and I wonder **edit** am I even bothering ?

I can forage for better buffs with an intermediate level skill on a BASE profession.
I can make more cash as a novice marksman.

I will wait for the update to go live, if there's no re-balancing for us Chef's, Im afraid I will be throwing all the hard work away and choosing a profession that isnt as totally fubar and ignored as chef.

If I hadn't subbed for 6 months, I'd say sod it & cancel. I stood by & watched Mythic shaft the Cabalist for 2 years, Im not prepared to suffer the same fate as a Chef.

Not to cry in my jawa beer, but chef has gotten the shaft. I can only hope things will get better in the future. They have to, cant get much worse. If things dont improve in a month or two, I will probably turn in my master chef hat.

I think I'll stick it out with chef till player cities... if by the time they come out chef hasn't gotten some proper fixes I'll probably drop it...

Until then I'll keep making food for my steady customers, but I intend to be mainly making weaponry... I'm 2 boxes away from master weaponsmith, and intend to master it tomorrow I had to get a second account to play a decent combat character though, which really sucks(**edit** limited skill points)

Yes, I also saw that posting and thought: "Wow, how great that all of our problems are solved now." Really, which practising non-aligned chef can afford med/large flora harvs ? And which master chef that probably can afford them has a need for them ?

Sounds cruel, but make your money with Tat Sunburn. Yes, it is totally out of line, but it is sort of your only chance. I ask for 300 cr per use, and I get it easily, making a few thousand cr a day. Still far away from what a ws earns, but our stuff is consumable and those that buy do buy again and again.
People want a decent duration, so 600+ second recipes are your best bet (plus you can hardly improve duration by experimentation anyway). So it's a wonder they actually buy a 6 minute only Sunburn.
Things will get a bit better when you climb the ladder, but 99% of all things you'll sell will be 3% of all recipes.

I dont make money from sunburns, I make money from level 14 faction missions ( I love my AT-ST, and number 2 is on its way). I make food for myself & a couple of PA memebers that can be bothered to fill their packs for 2 hours buffs, and about 2 sales a day

Chef is as broken as Commando IMO. Any profession that can be outdone by someone in a base profession is broken.

Yes, I too have decided to ditch my Chef profession. I'm hanging onto Mixology 2 & Cooking 1 for as long as possible to continue making Tatooine Sunburns, for which I charge 300cr/serving (and I usually only sell the ones where I get at *least* 2 servings, which is hard on Starsider now with the godawful reactive gas in the galaxy).

I gave up my Desserts 1& 2 to be able to work farther towards my goal of Bio-Engineer. At least with that class, my products will be useful to someone. As far as petfood goes, you can make friggin' Bofa Treats for them, it doesn't matter what kind of food it is. With good quantity experimentation, you can get tons of charges on Exo-Protien Wafers.

I'm very, very disappointed in the Chef profession so far. Maybe someday if it becomes what it should have been in the first place, a class whose products are used as the basic buffs of the game, I might try it again.

'Til then, one last Sunburn for the road and I'm off.

I make 50-100K a day from chef btw. It's not all that hard. Get a few regular clients who buy a lot at a time. Money isn't that big a problem, and I do make a lot more money with a lot less effort required then a base profession(though the possibility of doing dif 40 missions easily with an AT-ST is a problem)

I would be sad to see any chefs leave, but I would certainly understand why. There are so few chefs on Bria, especially around Coronet, that I can sell Teltier Noodles and Jawa Beer as regular staples. I saw my first Tatooine Sunburn for sale yesterday. I make more money selling resources than I do with chef products.

However, that doesn't deter me, because I am only aspiring to be a bartender and use my chef skills as a diversion from grinding up the smuggler tree. As a diversion, chef is fine; as a profession, I think it is sorely lacking. I wish you all the best of luck, whatever you decide to do.

I will not be dropping Chef. I am happy with it so far even though there are some serious problems that need to be addressed to make it fully viable. I am still able to run and maintain a small resturant near Mos Espa and I am gaining customers left and right because of word of mouth advertising and good customer service. .... and I don't have mixtology 2 yet. (Entree's 2, Mixtology 1)

I can make 10k a day about selling pet food and good mind buffs to people who need them. Also my Starshine's still sell for 300c on the bazaar, about 5 per day. I have mailing lists to send to my past customers and tell them what new offers and bulk plans I have available. You have to go out there and really try for customers, but if you do it and get some good ones it becomes much easier.

No, though I can certainly see where you're coming from. I guess the difference is I never expected to make money doing it. I just want enough to support my harvesters and house (which are all modest) - and frankly for that I run artisan missions or use my pistol specialist. It's tough and I'm not at Tat Sunburns yet. I'm doing ok with my "Kibbles N Bits" but it won't pay my power requirements.

I just like making foods. I took up Chef because it's always been a love of mine, in UO, in AC and now in SWG. As "useful" as Chef is, if you don't enjoy making many different foods - and maybe yes a bit of RP, like at a local Cantina - then yeah I could certainly see dropping it. I just think it's fun.

I really believe that in the next month or two that the chef profession will improve. Wouldn't be posting on these boards if I didn't.

In the mean time, I don't think the chef profession is a lot of fun. And when people tell me that they just became the chef, my first thought is "Man, I hope they don't get burned out too soon."

I recommend people take a break from being a chef if they feel like they are not having fun. Do something else, and then check out chefs again when the profession is improved.

I'm considering it.

Having much more fun with my pets and pistol nowadays.

Maybe if they fix factories soon they can keep me part time, as i could spend a bit of time each day to run factory (maybe more than oneif they're fixed)and stock my vendor. But at the moment I can't be bothered crafting each and every item to go on my vendor. The fact that we can't make a good schematic and reproduce the same quality over and over meansI get lots of variation and have to throw away alot of 'failures'.

i gotta say, actually kinda like being a chef

i just started last week, and i got mixology I yesterday... i was excited

And later, when they fix it, my buffs will be great, i think

till then, i'll just sell some sunburns and try to support myself

That's all i really want.. To support my large house (which took me the better part of 2 weeks to get) and my harvesters... as well as to be able to afford that cool new gun
