My hope and dream will be that the chef foods will get a much longer duration and some good buffing potential too.

Right now I'm a novice chef and I'm in no hurry to go anywhere. I make items and put them on the bazaar everyday. The food I sell does pay for my maintence, mostly. I dabble in a lot of professions however, so I have lots of things I can do everyday than just make chef foods.

I got to novice chef and just stopped, there was no motivation for the massive grind up to mix two, I am also a rifleman and make much better money, about the only thing I do now is make charde for myself to drink. If they ever fix chef I will start working up it again, but until that day it can sit unused.

I always reply to these in the same way.

I have a cantina, small as it is. I'm in a FANTASTIC entertainer PA that loves me and loves a place to play and hangout with a good crowd. Most of my drinks are made for people who just want to go through the act of buying a drink.

'Hit me with something HARD obos...the hardest yah got'

Hard to me= whatever kills the most focus/mind. I think you'll all agree yah? SO these people aren't even getting the BEST I can make...Most of the time i try and make them a useful drink of course. If someone says surprise me, I make them a Starshine..because i think its funny. ANyway..my point is that i don't make much money PERIOD. I get hired out for bartending gis. I make 8k for sitting behind a bar for an hour and a half last week. I think I'm in the easiest and happiest proffesion around, and I'm only Mix 1. Most of my rescources come from friends. If I DO want to make money, I go do those new artisan missions. I think they are cool! And for 1500+ creds..its not to shabby. I'm rambling..weeee

It's nice to see you're happy elbasunu

It's just a bit silly that other master-crafterscan pull in a lot more money for less effort, and that with an AT-ST you can run missions for 10-20K at a timesolo... I'm gonna stick it out for a couple more of the big patches, and if nothing comes I'll just go weapons crafting full time... half a skill box to do now... 300 more projectile rifle barrels. So close.

I dropped Chef. Games are all about fun. I did all the work to get to Mix II, then found out that crafting the same thing over and over by hand IS NOT FUN. Trying to guess what attributes the food schematics ACTUALLY depend on IS NOT FUN. Dealing with experimentation bugs IS NOT FUN. I started a combat character and it's FUN. I may try chef again if there are radical balance changes and bug fixes. Until then, its shooting Imperial oppressors for me. I will be the carbineer begging for Sunburn

If chef doesn't get fixed before my sub runs out, I'd be more likely to quit than scrap the profession and try something else. I've grinded and been poor for too long to not be rewarded.

If the devs can't fix a class within 4 months of release then F them I'm not giving them anymore money.

I agree with SirVimes.

I haven't dropped Chef yet, and probably won't. I have however reduced the amount of time I spend doing chef things. Just last night I decided I wanted to grind a lvl and had Cooking 1 in two hours or so. Not too bad, especially since I had 10k of wheat from the last couple weeks when cheffing had been neglected and the Ithorian Mists from Mix 2 to grind on. So this was a breeze. Only really did it cause I was bored doing my other profession stuff.

So in the last couple weeks, I've gotten Novice Droid Engineer and Novice Armorsmith. I am also working my way into Creature Handler, Rifleman (only 90k away now!!!), and maybe TKA, not really sure cause of skill points. Probably not TKA though, cause my beasties can brawl while I blow people away with T21 mindshots and headshots.

This combination has pretty much maximized my fun in the game. Instead of fretting about making any money from food sales, I craft up a bunch of Tatooine Sunburns and whatever else sold out of my vendor, throw it back into my vendor and hit the bazaar with a load of TS's. Then I go grab some destroy missions or go hunting with my Architect buddy turning Tailor/Bio-Engineer. Instead of spending all our time stuck in our houses crafting at private crafting stations, we blow stuff up, tour, and try to have a good time. We've been to all the starting planets, save Rori (next weekend) and I made a *brief* visit to Endor. We've checked out the PvE battlefields (and got wiped out instantly because of RAM and server lag), been to a couple themeparks, looked into PA's, and gotten involved in the GCW abit.

But the point is, yes chef is broken. But unless you are a master chef, with skill points tied up in other non-combat professions, there is no reason why playing the game should suck. Sure, you'll get owned the first few destroy missions you go on, but hey its fun! And if you get tried of grinding wastril or stewed gwouch or ithorian mists, pick up your galactic issued CDEF or survival knife and go kill something! Or pick up one of the other artisan professions on the side, with the xp you've been getting from all that Domestic Line food you've been making. As previously posted by someone, it takes alot less grinding to advance in other elite professions (exception being WS). DE takes like 400 mouse droids before you get more models, AS takes like 70 suits of armor, and Archs get lvled every time they have a busy day.

Sure I'm saying look outside the Chef profession for fun. Honestly, is crafting all that fun to begin with? NO, it is not. It is dead boring! I bought the game to have fun and be entertained (and save me money from buying other things, or living the house, heheh), so I am. And I think that if you rely on Cheffing as your major source of fun, you are insane.

So what are you waiting for disguntled chefs? Grab that blaster and kill that Giant Veermok! And don't drop chef, it will get better, it has to. We still need the FOOD equivalent of Tatooine Sunburn to affect MIND (which will be more popular than TS's, anyway). But until chef recipes are balanced or whatever, I will only be getting lvls in cooking so I can make the food that I can currently make the best possible, including 4-5 stacks of TS's and some nice V-wine stuff. And besides there's a whole galaxy to see! How can you see it from behind that crafting station? And don't forget, there's a civil war raging all around you! Get involved once in awhile!

All that said, even blowing stuff up gets boring. And that's why you don't drop Chef, its a change of pace and something else to do. Its all about variety.

Sorry for the long post, it's been awhile... hehehe

Correct me if im wrong, but while you were making your chef did you not know that base professions had the buffs as well.. Chefs are great for the roleplaying ability, and to have fun, but if you wanted to make money in the game, pick something that makes money. Just like with a cabalist, if you wanted a character that was great at doing something else besides powerleveling at tanglers, make another class (altho body/spirit cabbies can rock if played right, but i remembered seeing you out at tanglers laods on pryd so i assume you were matter specced

I think chefs have a great niche in the game for roleplaying and not so great niche for their buffs since a baseline profession can do basically the same for you from what I have heard. But Chef Education is what people need. Lots of people do not know what chefs can offer, the same as loads of ppl do not know what a cabby can offer to an rvr group. No they will not offer as much as say a weaponsmith or armourcrafter, but then again who said all professions must be equally useful and equally profitable.

look at the type of character you make and make sure it satifies your desires for what you want out of the game. You can drop skills ofc if you try something and dont like it here, which is nice about this game. The chef is what is stated, so look before you leap and make sure the profession you choose gives you what you want out of this game

Yes, I was that gimp Cabalist on Pry, and one of the first on Pry to use tanglers

When I started, and throughout most of Chef, I didnt know what the high level buffs were. I also expected Milk to be more plentiful by now, giving us access to the 10% of our items that are unavailable unless you are extremely lucky. I deliberately didn't look at the lists of higher end foods/buffs as I wanted to learn the profession as I progressed.
I also didn't take much notice of drugs and enh packs as I was grinding

As you probably know, the Cabalist was severely gimped & overlooked in DAoC for a looong time. The ONLY time anything was done, was when after 43 levels of tedious soloing to 43 because no one would group em, they suddenly found that AoE DOT could take out tangler camps if done right, and could actually level as fast as those people in groups. Only then did Mythic do anything - and that was to nerf em.
I see the same happening with chef. We are severely gimped vs smuggler & doctor buffs in many areas, and even vs Artisans in some areas.
The one area we have an advantage is the Sunburn. I have this horrible feeling that the balance pass will say "hmm, Tatooine Sunburns need a nerf but the rest looks OK to me". If that happens, I'll disappear faster than a bleeding diver in a pool of hungry sharks.

I WILL wait until the update, but not much longer. I can have a LOT more fun maxing out carbineer & CH than as a chef.
If even the "uses" bug gets fixed, I'll reconsider. That must be a simple bug to fix, and hotfixable, yet still there.
Im damned sure if stimpacks were coming out of a factory in 1's, there would be sufficient uproar that it would get fixed pretty damned fast.

Chef is the new Cabalist (& BTW, I stuck out as a cabalist until just before SWG came out. I was in the first 5 cabalists to get to 50 in Europe) as I tend to play the underdog

Most of the orders I got over the weekend were for food to quickly fix people's stats high enough so they could put on composite armor pieces.

However, my shop gets visited very often during the day. I have a pet food vendor, a buffing food vendor, and my boyfriend's powerups on a vendor. I rake in more money on the food than his powerups, oddly enough.

And I got an order for about 80k worth of food last night, so I'm going to be working on that most of the week for this customer.

It's fun for me... even though the duration of the food and their stats disappoint in the eyes of many, there are still some that appreciate the 3 minute boost to their willpower or strength.

I don't see what the problem is. I am 3 boxes from master Chef, and I sell so much food that I can't hardly keep up with my vendor. I'm not just talking TS either, Im talking Veghash, Ormachek, Karkan Ribenes, Bivoli Tempari, Gruuvan Shaal. The list goes on.

Get out there and preach your product. Make a bunch of contacts, send followup emails, thank your customers when they buy from you and your online. Little things like this make you stand out from the crowd.

As for the question asked in the Subject post, No I will never drop chef.

I'll admit it. I was pretty disappointed with the profession UNTIL a bounty hunter waltzed into my shop. It gave me warm fuzzies to have someone come in and buy up 50K worth of stuff. And now that I'm Master, they usually buy 100K worth of stuff(and not just master stuff, I'm putting out something from every branch now that I can actually shop for quality ingredients instead of wasting money on grind ingredients). Sure, most of that goes back into resources, but I still make a profit I can live with. Hopefully they'll fix the factory food use bug soon and I'll be able to sell more efficiently(cheaper, but without an hour spent making it ).

BTW, if you sell Tatooine Sunburns, recommend Corellian Fried Ice Cream to those customers if you can make it . That's one food that sells itself when linked with the Sunburns.

Preach it, Quleion!

I'm slammed with orders and my vendors are running low. I am having to trash my harvesters to build more factories. I'm even considering building a small house and creating a "private" restaraunt for my regular customers who want their regular food to be available 24x7 without having to worry that someone will come along and clean out the "mind" food while I'm offline. I'm contracting with independent suppliers to search out the best ingredients from all over the galaxy.

In short, I'm having a blast.

I can't tell you how many times I've had a new customer send me a tell saying "Holy crap! Your food kicks ****!" They tell me what they typically do and where they are having problems and I design a menu specifically for them. They then tell somebody about my shop and next thing you know I have a fleet of evangelists running around touting my food.

Keep the faith and realize that it really does get better as you get closer to Master and you experimentation points go up and you have a broader array of recipes. Then, it's all up to the individual Chef to develop those relationships.

Cheers,
