Thread: Questions to SirVimes

It's bleedingly obvious that doctors and smugglers have far better buffs than we do. In the PA I belong to our Master Doctor can raise HA stats by well over 1000pts for a long time, I think 40-60 minutes. Smugglers also have much better buffs although not as good as doctors afaik. Foraged food is stronger than most of the food I can currently make as a novice Chef!

Our buffs in comparison to doctors, smugglers and even foraged food are weak and last for ONLY 200 seconds.

My questions to you are:

1 - I am sure you have bought this up to the developers, why don't the Devs see that Chef buffs are pathetic when compared to other buffs?

2 - Do the devs believe that Chef buffs are correctly pitched.

3 - Is there any expectation of this being fixed?

To be honest if the buffs aren't made more equal I really think we should try and come up with a plan to try and force SOE to do the right thing by the Chef profession.

4 - What do you think we should do as a group to try and get this problem fixed?

Well, I am not SirVimes, but this can't stop me giving some sarcastic answers.

1.) Because we are only 0.0000000000001% of all the players, and as long as any fighting class has the smallest complain about the colour of their weapons, there are simply no human resources to spare to take care of our miniscule problems.

2.) Do devs know there actually are chef buffs ?

3.) It's been set to the 1000th annuary celebration date of the founding of the first human extra-solar colony.

4.) Hard to realise. Some Arab big a*s did it before we could, and now it's to get a hand on one of those air planes....

Ok, before people complaing about trolling or similar:

1.) There are other things to fix first. Believe it or not, but there are other classes that are even more broken worse than chefs. As long as the time is spent to help them, granted. But if it's used for some freaking discussion about one of many damm rifles and its whining-low stats, frell it.
2.) I think they understand our problem at least.
3.) Nope.
4.) Well, hunger strike doesn't work on the inet. (Damm, there's that sarcasm again.). Force SOE ? Will they notice at all when 100 chefs quit the game ? We could spam the forums, but... no. Rather not. The point is: we are not really needed. The game works as great without us as it does with chefs. Pray, brother. Pray.

The truth is somewhere between.

The devs have said they're going to fully rebalance the profession, so this probably means an external and internal rebalance. This will probably mean a general upping of stats, but also that the good stuff will all be at tier 4 and master, in all likelyhood, so no more 2 boxes to sunburn.

I just want to point this out to you... you are comparing a MASTER doctor, which requires more skill points than NOVICE chef, or even MASTER chef. Therefore their buffs should be the best because they have more restrictions on them and have more skill points invested on them to get those buffs.

That said though, yes Chefs need increase to our buffs in duration and/or effect. I'm hoping for a little of both on the balance pass. Also please read the first Dev response we have from the first set of questions. Most of the answers, while not that impressive or informative basically say - we will be doing a balance pass on the buffs to determine what changes to make...

They haven't informed us of the results of that 'balance pass' yet, and I doubt its been done. I'm hoping they will have an open dialouge with us about how they think they should 'balance foods' to make them more effective like they did with other professions like BE's and Creature Handlers... but I'm not holding my breath.

If you see Holocrons post about the changes coming in the next update, the only one relating to Chef is the Medium and Heavy Floral harvesters... but this issue concerned Architechs, Medics, Doctors, Combat Medics, Bio-Engineers, and anyone else who wanted to farm organics. I do not see any specific changes coming to our profession at least 2-3 updates from now, but thats just my pestimism talking

The only thing that seems to work to get the devs attention is to rant and cause a rukus on the forums... but I don't think there are enough of us to create even a slight rumble. Chef on dev to fix priority list = low

Well, personally, I think that creating a ruckus on the boards would actually only damage our cause (not implying anyone suggested we do! Just a general comment). Keeping ourselves calm and cool - but visible! (different from ruckus) may actually help At least they do know we exist We just need to keep not-badgering them with 'when's it going to be fixed?!?' and maybe work more on the RP aspect of our trade. High point of my week: I trained someone in some scout or marksman skill, fairly well up the basic tree, and they responded with gratitude but also, "But... you're a Cook?!?" (like Chefs can't be über yeah )Anyway, take up residence in the local Cantinas - or create your own. I'm going to be working at a friend's Cantina so it'll be fun - which is more what I'd hoped Chef would be anyway. (Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see buffs fixed but I didn't take up Chef because I could make buffs If anyone does, imo, you're in the wrong field.)

Anyway just my two cents!

Yeah, this has been brought up many times. I told the developers that the buffs need to be more competitive with smugglers and doctors, and that there has to be a more obvious progression of buffs. Right now, Artisans outbuff chefs.

They said they were going to be doing a balance pass where they will take a look at all the buffs.

Gotta be honest with you...I really don't expect this to happen soon. Next month or the month after, but not sooner than that. Sorry Compared to Bounty Hunters and Smugglers and whatever, we just don't rank up there for attention. I do think this will happen...but not soon.

In the mean time, keep posting about this. Both here, and in the main discussion forum since developers don't seem to come to the profession forums too much. Don't troll, don't spam, be polite and have fun while posting. Those types of posts seem to get the developer's attention. But keep posting and don't let the developers forget.

And I will keep poking Q and Holo trough e-mails and make sure they don't forget either.

Sorry that I don't have more.

I'm not expecting a novice chef to have buffs as good as a Master Doctor, but my understanding is that a Master Chef has nothing in comparison to a Master Doctors buffs.

I guess I was hoping to hear from SirVimes that the devs acknowledge that there is an equality issue here, but unfortunately I didn't hear that in SirVimes response.

SirVimes would it be possible to put the devs on the spot and actually discover whether they think Chef buffs are adequate? All this talk about a balance pass is meaningless if they don't really think we have a problem.

I will ask...but it is kinda hard to put the devs on the spot when they are behind the computer. I will keep asking though.

SirVimes wrote in an e-mail to Holocron and Q-3PO:

Somebody asked a question on the boards that I think is a very good question and would put a lot of chef's minds at east. The question is: Do you think chef buffs are adequate? Simple yes or no answer.

If you could answer this or pass it onto the primary developer who works on chefs that would be great!

Thanks in advance,

This is what I have wanted to know since I started chef. I always assumed we would be improved, but maybe this is what they intended all along. Need to know for sure, cause I may need those chef points for pistol. PP
