That said though, yes Chefs need increase to our buffs in duration and/or effect. I'm hoping for a little of both on the balance pass. Also please read the first Dev response we have from the first set of questions. Most of the answers, while not that impressive or informative basically say - we will be doing a balance pass on the buffs to determine what changes to make...
They haven't informed us of the results of that 'balance pass' yet, and I doubt its been done. I'm hoping they will have an open dialouge with us about how they think they should 'balance foods' to make them more effective like they did with other professions like BE's and Creature Handlers... but I'm not holding my breath.
If you see Holocrons post about the changes coming in the next update, the only one relating to Chef is the Medium and Heavy Floral harvesters... but this issue concerned Architechs, Medics, Doctors, Combat Medics, Bio-Engineers, and anyone else who wanted to farm organics. I do not see any specific changes coming to our profession at least 2-3 updates from now, but thats just my pestimism talking
The only thing that seems to work to get the devs attention is to rant and cause a rukus on the forums... but I don't think there are enough of us to create even a slight rumble. Chef on dev to fix priority list = low
You say Master Doctors should buff better. Ok, then give me the ability to rezz and heal -P
To become Master doctor is as hard as chef. Chef has the hardest grind. Needing nearly as much XP as the other crafters, but only having a crappy 170 xp combine for grind.
Doctors spend ONE line to buffs. Not even to buffs. Buffs are part of the medpacks. If you take a closer look there are TWO boxes with the buffs.
Doctors craft with ressource *3 for XP for most parts. Smuggler do with *4 btw. Doctors craft things they use to get other XP. We just grind for the practice trash. Doctors can, as said .. rezz, heal...
I think the Doctors buffs are ok. I see the doc as cleric in eq, therefore he should have good buffs related to the life-pools of the patient. But what is a chef then ? First i thought something like a shaman ... good buffs, stacking with docs buffs or filling the gaps.
The gaps would mean mind focus willpower. spices are superior to our buffs. and the buffs are far away from beeing usefull when i see what they cost to make.
but hey, chef is currently under revision from what i got from these boards. lets wait and see if the chef profession is given a sense
Kinda sucks, but chefs seem to be on the bottom for priority. I'm still going to climb the tree over time, hoping for improvements down the line. Waaay down the line.
I think chefs deserve some serious(40+ minutes duration, high value) mind/focus/willpower buffs along with other improvements.
I just want to point this out to you... you are comparing a MASTER doctor, which requires more skill points than NOVICE chef, or even MASTER chef. Therefore their buffs should be the best because they have more restrictions on them and have more skill points invested on them to get those buffs.
You don't think those extra skill points arerequired because they get the best heals in the game, and the only rez? Besides which, all of the skill points a doctor spends as requirements increase the effectiveness of their doctor abilities, all of the bonuses to injury treatment, speed etc add to the bonuses they get as doctors - the only crafting class that gets that sort of luxury is a Tailor.
1000 for 40-60 minutes is nothing, a Master Doc using advanced components (their own of course, no need for a bio-engineer there.. So much for class interdependency) can get 1500 for 2.5 hours.
Heh... a guy I know with only 2 full lines of doctor buffed for 1800 action earlier on... and that was with no advanced components... dunno what the duration was.
In any case,we do have benefits over doctors, and I agree that because of these benefits there is no good reason why our buffs should be better, or even equal. However they should be close. At the moment they're in another dimension. A doctor can buff 6 stats for lets say an average of 1200 per stat... total 7200 for about 1h30 minutes on average. I'd like to see a master chef buff for a total of 6000 lasting for 15 minutes, reappliable after say 20-25 minutes. This is a very reasonable expectation, that gives both professions a useful buff, and at the same time, neither is overpowerred.
I dont really mind if they increase the buff effect, or they increase the number you can fit at a time, the problem is, at the moment the very small number of buffs you could nearly achieve this kind of buffage with(except sunburn), will only fit one at a time... I can buff nearly 1500 total with one breath of heaven, but if I cant fit another drink with that, I'm losing a lot of the flexibility which I think was meant to be one of chef's greatest strengths. Other master buffs only buff about 400 at a time, and can only fit one at a time... which makes them worse than many of the other buffs, which you can fit 2,3,4 even more at a time, hence renderring them useless

This is just incorrect. To get the absolute best buffs, you need master doc, which is every last box. To get decent buffs and to be able to apply them, you need at least advanced wound treatment, expert med knowledge, and master crafting. If you want those big buff values, you need master wound treatment.
Yes, chefs definitely need a boost, but doc buffs do have their drawbacks. You've seen the great numbers, but an advanced enhance can still buff for 600. I've seen good and bad values. And if it's a lowball buff, it stays that way for the full duration, sine there's no way to remove a buff aside from suicide.
Oh well, at least chefs seem to be a reasonable lot. No "nerf everyone else" mentality here, hehe. Since everyone can instantly self-apply food and drinks, they shouldn't be as powerful as a doc buff. But they **edit** well need to last longer with vastly improved effects, no arguments there. I desperately want some vastly improved chef mind buffs.

Hmm, forgot to address this in my last post. A master medic can heal your average player just as well as a master doc, really. Not a whole lot of difference in damage healing at all. Wound healing is another issue, but as docs get higher, they tend to do less and less wound healing. Look at the doc forum for reasons why. Rez is rez. I rarely have the opportunity to use it, though. Maybe I hang out with smarter fighters. I feel like buffs are the biggest part of a doctor's repertoire. If they buffed for squat like you guys, I wouldn't have bothered; master medic is enough 95% of the time for combat.
You really shouldn't quote the highest possible buff to make a point. They simply don't average that high, from what I've seen. Depends on luck.

Master Chef is alot harder to obtain then master doctor.
Doctor not only can buff but they can heal and cure wounds and Reserect Fallen Players.
Doctor only needs to grind one crafting line which is the only hard line to level up as a doctor . Everything else is a piece of cake.
Chef takes 4 complete crafting lines 100% devoted to making buffs the master chef should be beter simple as that , the buffer should be the chef.
If chef isnt the primary buffer it needs to be given something else besides crafting buffs.. the profession needs to have some spice added too it if its not going to be the best buffer.
Doctor is also Flavor of the month and expect it to be nerfed soon because of so many people taking advantage of the Insane Enhance packs you can Craft.
