Chef Archive

Everyone is constatly compaining of the grind for Artisan elite classes (chef included), and I have yet to figure out why. Sure, clicking the button thousands of times ad nausium is very dull... so why do it?

I am still pretty new to this (novice Chef working towards Mix I) but I am having fun NOT grinding. Instead, I just play the role and take the skill points as I get them. My typical night playing starts with about an hour of harvesting random critters for hides and meats. Then I wander around for another hour finding resource 'hotspots', taking samples, and crafting away til my resources are more-or-less depleted. Next I bop over to the Cantina and play bartender, sellingJawa Beers for 200 creds a pop. After that, I stop by the Bazaar and put the rest of my crafted morsels up for sale, and spend the rest of the night cackling gleefully everytime I get an Email saying 'Bobo Gnortslayer has bought your Air Cake'.

Simple pleasures I know... And I won't become master anytime soon at this rate. However, I think the experience getting there will be more worthwhile. Just something to think about

i'm going the same route, especially since Chef is a 'side job' for me...I only plan to climb mixology and probably 1 box in experimenting.

I grind only to have food on hand. Since there is NO challenge to grind up the tree, I figure I can create my own challenge by finding customers.

Plus, I actually earn money selling food, as opposed to practice grinding and earning jack squat.

Well if your making jawa beer and air cake then you won't make master for awhile since neither give chef exp.

A man after my own heart. You are not the only one taking time on this journey. I, and I believe SirVimes as well, do not plan to Master any time soon. "Grinding" is something I haven't and will not engage in. That's not the life I want.

The only time I did "the grind" was from Novice Chef to Mixology I (Where I still am actually). That was only because the food and drink I made at Novice Chef was not very interesting to me. I wanted to get to Mix I and make some fun stuff like Bantha Blasters, Corellian Ale and Sullutian Gin. Charde and Wastril bread just weren't doing it for me and no one wanted them anyway.

Now I just need to work my way to Cooking I so I can make some halfway decent drinks. At least I'm having a bit more fun now and I get to travel to Corellia to get wheat! Exciting! I'll be wandering around the cities like a tourist. Taking pictures and pointing at the tall buildings.

I'm glad I've taken a month and gotten it out of the way. I understand where everyone's coming from here, but grinding is the only way to go for me. Three or four more days and it's done, I can do what I want after that

I guess there are more "players" than I thought....

I do the grind only when I am running survey missions.. might as well spend those 600 meters doing something. But I rarely grind for practice points. I tend to fill my pockets while doing it and then posting the lot on the bazaar or going to do the bartender thing.

I do a lil of both. I grind when I just miss a shuttle, or when waiting on someone. Occasionally, I grind watching an entertainer that is afk macroing. The only other times I grind, are when I start getting close to the next box. My friends keep bugging me to get up the tree to make better stuff, but I figured bartender would be something that just happened, not something I worked for.

Djen, you are one of the few who get's it! It's how you play the game that makes it fun. Just becoming Master Chef is not going to make the game anymore fun for me. But getting there, as you described, is the whole fun of it. I play the same way, and I am glad to see others are, too. It shows there is some hope that there will be a long lastin player base in SWG, because grinding and power-gaming gets old quickly, but role-playing doesn't,

Nice to see some people who think the same way as I do - I don't grind, typically, unless there is some point I want to reach. I did (sorta) 'grind' (as in sit in one spot and make items specifically for xp) to get Novice Chef after I was about halfway there. It depends on your goal.I really wanted to make Wastril bread ;D I do think too many people get bogged down in trying to get from Point A to Point C without enjoying the ride. On the other hand I don't think people should look down on those who do grind because there are those who do just enjoy being the "Master" or whatever Iknowif I don't have some box that contains an item a customer wants, I'm more inclined to sit down and really work towards getting that. It just depends. But overall, I fill my vendor, I fill the Bazaar, I make a few things for my PA members (and track them down and make 'em eat it ). I'm pretty happy doing all that, in between harvester runs. *must get at least a medium flora*
