Just add a zero to the end of all chef buff durations and we do not have a problem.

buffs should be short and sweet not long and borring..

they should max out at 30 mins..

I mean that would make a stack of 4 last 2 hours thats not bad..

the buffs should be insane not just hmm that might help they should be "holy poo I need me one of them!"

and like i said in the other forum, there are enough schematics to suit everyones favorite, i.e. long lasting low amount buffs as well as short duration "wow!" boosts.

I'm a proponent of the short and sweet faction as well...

I can say as a player high into the pistoleer line and having nearly masterred the chef line, that I would never bother making myself long lasting buffs if they gave crappy buffs. I would make stuff that gave me the bonus for a short period of time so I could kill just a single group of mobs tougher than I could usually handle, and reap the extra rewards from doing so. A +200 modifier to all my stats for 3 hours will not matter to me. It'll give me a near insignificant edge, that I wont be using a lot of the time running from one place to another.

However: We've got around ONE HUNDRED different schematics... Surely there is space for both groups to be caterred for?

We don't necessarily need to have one or the other. Our entire profession is dedicated to buffing, and as such, should be capable of one or the other, or a medium buff fora decent amount of time.

Our stuff should be scaled roughly to doctor buffs, except that it shouldn't be as powerful(since you can use it anytime anywhere, and dont need a doctor or camp to apply it). The advantage of being able to use it anytime is a huge one, and is worth having weaker effects or shorter lasting time.

I think the current duration of buffs is fine, but player characters should be able to "digest" faster. That would solve the problem.

I agree...You've got to be mindful of the duration of the buffs because too long and it affects the rate of consumption which then affects a chef's rate of income. I'm more of the mind that you should get a range of say +75 to 100 for 5 minutes at novice chef to +700 to +1000 for 30 minutes at master level. This gives you a pretty decent increase over the long haul as far as scaling upwards plus it shows a very signifigant buff for those who are perusing for the first time. Course we probably have to take into account that spices stack. +2000 (or so) is an awful big increase. Maybe spices shouldn't stack...but then again taking certain drugs in RL gives you the munchies so maybe it's more realistic than I thought. <grin> Seriously though I've seen several people say the drawback for spice is not nearly sharp enough. Personally I'd tend to agree.

Chefs, Doctors and Smugglers are going to be in competition with each other, and the developers are going to have to keep that in mind. You may say, "Well, chefs only do buffs so we should have the best buffs." That is a good point. But another point is that there are a lot more smugglers than there are chefs. A lot more. And if we demand our buffs be better, smugglers demand their buffs be better....who do you think the developers are going to listen to.

The best thing for us is to argue for a way that spices and food (and even

medicine) can compliment each other. If we go into direct competition with the smugglers, we will loose because they have the numbers and can just flood the market.

You have one buff that is not as powerful, but very long lasting that acts as the base. This is stackable, and can be stacked with other things. This is food.

You have another buff that is powerful but very short acting that you can stack on top of the base, but not stack with each other. This could be spice.

That just seems to make sense to me. I mean, spice is a drug and should be more "pow" and burn out fast while food is natural and should have benefits over a longer period of time.

We would still have a market because you can stack buffs our buffs, so people can buy multiple foods. And when they make our food something that people actually want for more than pet food, I don't see there ever being enough chefs that we have to worry about saturating the market. A dozen or so chefs on each server vs. how many players?

Also, consider this...what I am proposing above is not my plan, it is the developers. Holocron suggested this during beta. And spice is already set up to work in this plan. Spice is exactly as Holocron suggested, with it being powerful but not lasting more than 15 minutes. It's food they dropped the ball on and made it pretty worthless. I bring this up because A) since this is the developers idea, it would be easier to get them to go along with this, we already have momentum in this direction and B) What you guys are asking for would require rebalancing all the buffs in both the smuggler profession and the chef profession. Asking them to increase the duration of the buffs to a point where they are a lot more attractive will take a lot less work, and we would see it much, much sooner. Just asking for better buffs than chefs or medics...we might win the arguement but it would be months before we saw any results.

Well, I do not know how long we can depend on the Chef numbers staying low. There are now two Chefs at the Haven outside of Bestine within about 20 meters of each other and I have seen a minimum of 5 in an out of the city of Bestine. As the game runs longer and the buffs are fixed, our numbers will grow.

Digestion time should beequal to the buff duration.

How long does the energy from your breakfast last you? If you eat enough pizza to be full, does the energy from that pizza go away before it is completely digested?

SirVimes: I must admit concern that our correspondent is arguing his personal opinions so adamantly. I much prefer the correspondant approach that gathers the community will and reports that, leaving his personal opinion out of it. Once you rejoin the community as just another voice, then argue your opinions as hard and passionately as you want...but for the time being you are the voice of this community and I'd really prefer you take that approach.

Topic: Chefs competing with Smugglers (Spice). I don't get it? They stack yes? No competition. Complimentary professions. There are enough differences between the two (Multi-stack food vs single stack spice...Chef items are more inventory efficient, Chef items to not have a downside, Chef items to not carry the RP 'taint' of drug use, you can consume multiple different types of chef items to get the exact nature of buff you desire...etc. LOTS of differences between the two, we don't need to FURTHER distinguish it by saying 'oh yea and Spice buffs rocks and Chef buffs blow'

Topic: Holocron mentioned in beta he thought food buffs should be long lasting. So? How many ideas do you think the devs come up with that get discarded upon further review? If the COMMUNITY of CHEFS believe that it makes better sense for our buffs to be shorter duration, thus giving us a more robust market, then the devs should be perfectly willing to listen.

Topic: Consumption timer should equal buff duration. Totally agree.

My 2 cents. Signing out...
