Thread: What do you like about being a chef
Ok, all...simple question. What do y ou like about being a chef? Why do you stay a chef?
The developers would lke to know what you enjoy about the profession, so that when they make future plans they know what to keep and what to give us more of.
And I will start it off.
- I think crafting is a lot more complex and challenging than combat, especially when it comes to managing resources.
- Of all the crafting professions chefs have the most potential for playfulness
- My main goal is to own a cantina, which I think is a lot of fun (that being said, I wish the cantinas had more rooms like a basement or an attic or a back office and had more fun things to put in them)(.
- Of course, now we know that dancers and musicians can own cantinas. The reason I have stayed a chef, besides #1 and #2 above, is that chefs in general seem to be great role players and are just plain warped people....a lot of fun to hang with. Chefs seem to have a more community feeling as opposed to the other crafting professions which are more competitive, and I really enjoy that.
Nothing, I found the constant maintaining of harvestors, traveling, and resource searching very annoying. I found myself not playing as much as I did with the other professions I did. Which was only 5 others which isnt saying much. not to mention ya need like 3 food and chem factories to pump stuff out at a decent rate.
Guess im meant to be involved in combat![]()

1) The challenge to be well known on the server. Eventually you have too much money, but no amount of money can get you good name recognition.
2) The endless hunt for the best reosources, which ties in with number 1 to produce the best product.
3) The complexity is fun, I did combat for a week and I cant stand it too much longer.
4) The people you meet, Ive met many more good than bad.
5) I get to experiment and try out different stuff on my food, being able to customize it.
6) The chef forums ![]()
7) And a far far seventh is the money

What the heck?? Ah well try number 2.
1. I like making food, not really into weapons or killing things, not really into clothes or driods, I just like the idea of making food.
2. I like the challenge of trying to find the best ingredients to make the best possible foods
3. Chef has a "fun factor", as in I can RP at anytime I feel like, crack chef jokes randomly, and overall its a serious profession, with a goofy twist.
4. I like the fact that I make a luxury item. People don't have to have chef food, they buy it because they want it, not because they need it, and that makes me feel good about what I do. I get so many tells from people saying how they love what I make because it allows them to do things they never could before.
5. Despite the repetitiveness of the food graphics, they are rather pleasent to look at. I make something, and I think to myself "Viola!"
In summary, the roleplaying of it. Looking forward to drinking/eating (?) animations, and possibly cool cantina placeables! How bout a menu interface eh wot?
This is the reason why I never liked making foods required.

I made the mistake of eating my own food and going hunting and was amazed. I have points in Pistoleer, and I was able to spam pistol whip 30 times in the course of a minute! Also, my ham just won't seem to go down with my food.
I am really having fun with this class.
2. It is kind of fun driving around hunting for resources.
3. I can be a somewhat casual player. Meaning once harvesters and factories are taken care of, I don't have to logon for a day or so. Granted, I still logon most nights, but I don't need to
4. Resource maintainance. Different from hunting for resources, it's fun trying to decide what I need when I need it, and hitting the resource shift just right.
5. Pricing schemes. Okay, I enjoy coming up with formulas to determine how I should price my wares. And I get to do it all over again whan the new buffs go into effect!!
And that's about it. So, why chef over the other crafting professions? In nearly every other online game I've played I was either a weaponsmith or an armorsmith, so I didn't want to do that again, plus at the time I started chefs seemed relatively rare, so I wanted to fill a hole I felt was missing on my server.
I even enjoyed the way up the profession. My guild would hear about each new food and what it could do. I thought it was amazing that the buffs could do as much as they could for us. (yes I know they aren't as much as the doctor buffs...but in the beginning there weren't any/many doctors that could buff) It was fun hunting down each of the resources I needed to make the next big buff that my guild wanted to have.
When I finally got to Master (yes it took a while) was shortly before the borked stacks. Went ahead and set up a vendor which came down swiftly when we became the most skilled killers of the land. Although I did have a blast even then with being able to laugh about my insane abilities to pk.
Have met some of the nicest people. Everyone likes talking to a chef (even if it was at one time just to laugh about seeing someone that was a chef).
Even now it is still enjoyable to create the best possible product I can and then get the occassional email or send telling me how much someone enjoys what to me is the most fun profession in the game. Isn't that what the game and life is all about? Finding something you absolutely enjoy and actually getting paid to do it. Fabulous.

p.s. Thanks to all of you on the boards that have been here since the beginning. You provided alot of help and even encouragement to me and I'm sure many others even if you didn't realize you did. Best group of people I could ever hope to be considered one of.
Okay, I decided back in beta I wanted to run a cantina vice the other combat professions the rest of the guild pursued. After being a master chef for almost 4 months now, I have enjoyed the challenge of finding the best resources available for making the best foods I can create to sell for the best creds I can scam from my customers
One of the biggest parts, I think, is the chef community, both on my server and in these forums. With very few exceptions everybody gets along, helps each other out, and never fails to humiliate any holochef that comes near our precious forum without proper respect for Those Whom Have Gone Before
Oh, and everybody knows that Master Chef title is guaranteed to get you the hot chicks/hunks!
