Thread: Getting New Schematics

I was thinkin'

The developers said they would be adding new schematics in upcoming patches and expansions and stuff. I was thinking that for new master chef schematics, they shouldn't just give them to us. They should be rewards for doing quests. These quests could come from Wuher, the bartender in the Mos Eisley Cantina, or Maliki (sp?), Jabba's chef who is in the game....or lady Valerian who owns the Lucky Despot nightclub and resteraunte.

Anyway, just an idea.

I am not a chef, but it is something I keep track of, but as for this idea, I truly like it, I mentioned it on the weaponsmith forum when they finally said they will eventually be giving us new schematics, not many comments on it over there but I love the idea of non-combat class quests.

As long as they make the non-combat crafter quests "non-combat". I don't even have novice marksman skills, so me going through the wilds of Dathomir and asking a Singing Mountain Clan sister for the recipe for Fruit Loops ain't gonna happen

Many chefs are non-com, so I'd have to disagree.

Jerecki, why is that? A quest does not mean combat. It could also be puzzle solving. It could be gathering ingredients for the Wuher for his favorite drink, and we need to find the ingredients.

I dont know how they could do this, but what I think would be sweet is if the system was dynamic enough for us to be able to "create" a dish. Sort of how the Bio-engineers are able to create a standard gurrek with special attacks and resistances that they dont have in teh wild. A way that master chefs could have a unique specialty dish or 2. I wish I had a good suggestion on how this could work, but I can not really think of anything offhand that would be feasilble in the current system.

After seeing the RIS armor quests, I hoped it was a taste of what was to come for all crafting professions. I completely agree with you, SirVimes, that at least some new schematics should be granted in the form of quests/missions. It would really be a breath of fresh air to be able to get away from my shops and factories to do something where I would actually be advancing myself as a Chef. Quests/missions don't have to be combat-related, and I really hope steps are taken to buck the notion that they only involve combat (delivery missions don't count, although I miss the newbie days... ).

I do like what Ja-van is getting at. But maybe instead of creating a new specific dish, maybe you're given the task of preparing a special meal for some VIPs. Maybe you can be given clues or directions from NPCs about what dishes/drinks they are partial to. Maybe one guest likes a lighter meal (where you'd want to experiment on the filling stat), or someone really likes flavorful dishes (focusing on flavor), while maybe the children just want desserts... lots of desserts (focusing on stack size).

As a complete non-combatant, I wouldn't even mind if specific ingredients were required that come in the form of loot off of creatures. I really only spend money on resources and maintenance and random things to decorate my house with, so giving me something else that's worthwhile would be welcoming. Many peopleare complaining about lack of loot anyways. Maybe you'd have Wuher needing some specific rare ingredients that you are to collect for him, and upon returning them tohim he'll share one of his secret drink recipes that was Han Solo's favorite (as a random example). It really could be anything.

I agree with the sentiments of many others. As long as its possible for any chef to be able to get them, ie. no/little combat. I dont mind the missions being time consuming, or have cool puzzles to solve. Also I worry about factions getting in the way, I know jabba guys would run 3k to come after me, they hate me!

As long as it isn't something utterly impossible like the RIS armour (In 7 months playing this game, I have seen ONE Peko Peko Albatross, and I found Krayts easier to kill lol), and the final item is worth getting, then Im all up for quests etc to get new schematics.

As Saitek already said, something mentally challenging, rather than expecting us to run somewhere and kill things, would be nice.

Maybe we could get an "uberschematic" for managing to get enough milk from mob drops only, to make one of every item requiring it

I love it SirVimes, I think that is a really good idea.

I just hope they are retroactive missions cause I have already done the Jabba theme park and I wouldn't want to loose the schematic because I went exploring early in the game.

I am really big on momentos. I am kicking myself for not keeping that "chicken leg" from the last mission from the cook in Jabba's palace, I would have loved to put that in my house or use as a centerpiece at a dinner I have tons of junk and I love quest rewards as long as they are useless uniquejunk that I can put in my house or something really usefull, non of this giving me CDEF Pistols crap.

I love doing those kind of multi leg quests and getting a new chef shematic at the end would be the greatest but we are getting food fixed after 5 months, I don't think we should push our luck.

What about the mos taike food quests, that guy gives you all this gourmet food from his "sister" (I don't think he ever mentions her name). She sounds like a secret chef jedi that we could talk to for quests. I really want a schematic for eopie cream pie.

I don't know how many of you played Asheron's Call, but one of the most fantastic system ideas they had in that game was spellcasting. You had a sack full of different ingredients and had to arrange them in a certain order and have specific types, and it could cast a spell. They even had a revolving taper system, so theschematic for a certain spellwas unique to the user. That system had it's issues (pretty rigid order, a taper algorithmn that someone wrote a tool for), but it was a lot of fun to learn spells, especially if you paid attention to the ingredient descriptions (they helped you solve the puzzle). A free-form discovery system at master level to create a food with specific attributes would be a neat idea. Is it feasable under our current system? It seems like some variant might be. Some other suggestions:

  • Epic quests to put together pieces of a schematic

  • A Cookbook quest where they grant you a page of the book to copy, meaning you learn a particular schematic when you complete it. (Say there are 10 cookbook quests, and 10 schematics, but you can achieve any schematic the first time through).

  • Looted schematics that you can permanently learn.

  • Schematics hidden in broken (but fixable) datapads or treasure chests.

  • Schematics that are useable only with other certain skills (spices IV, novice BE, hunting IV)?

SirVimes, this is something I brought up in an thread about a month ago, that I thought would be cool... so, yeah, I like the idea. I'll see if I can't find that thread...
