Thread: Getting New Schematics
Okay, so it's not the same exact idea, but along the same lines as your idea, SirVimes.
Here's the link to my thread: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=chef&message.id=12213
I'm all for it. Adds something for chefs to do, and improves game content.
Definitely epic quest recipes, what a great idea. Good way to gain a little chef fame.
I ADORE this idea.
I've been thinking this for ages- I think each crafting class should eventually have 10-20+ schematics given to them gradually that they have to quest for. Some as easy as the non-combat theme park type missions, some as difficult as item collecting and NPC finding and yada yada, which newbie crafters don't get either unless they do the quests also.
It would make for a more dynamic crafting experience. As it is now, the guy who spends weeks or even months gradually working his way up chef and learning all it can do gets the same abilities as the guy who buys 100's of kilos of resources and grinds it all in a day, and that doesn't make for a rewarding game experience ultimately.
I mean, how PROUD would you be if you spent a month stumbling across random NPC's and doing quests to finally help a cantina's chef makewhat he considers the ultimaterecipe, which in thanks he downloads to your datapad for you to use?
1) combat: most chefs don't have much in the way of combat skills...and just as in the armorsmith RIS quests...combat shouldn't be directly involved. having to obtain loot would be a possibility, but then you're just opening the door for the rich pa's to power grind a chef up faster than an existing chef could get his/her hands on the rare loot.
2) rare loot: with RIS armor being a long term type benefit, the rare items needed to make a full set might be justified...but having loot that only drops off of high end creatures or npc's would make that type of food too difficult to be a viable product. most customers like crates since its space efficient, and having to carry 2 or 3 single stacks of a few uses....well I don't know if many fighters would be willing/able to do this....especially with the new food benefits taking up even more inventory space.
well other than that there are a few little things like the concern over power grinders getting the same benefit as someone who took the time to understand the chef profession...but if thats a really big concern then perhaps part of the quest would require an "invitation"...this invitation would be "left" on a vendor placed by a master chef, after that vendor had been operating for a certain period of time. or perhaps something else...maybe a game mail sent x amount of time after having become a master chef.
anyway, questing for new schematics would be a great idea...perhaps they could also match the quest to the benefit...for example...a quest from Jabba's chef should give a BH related bonus...while a quest from wuher might give a smuggler type bonus, etc.
I disagree also. I hate questing. I really hate it. I don't like confinement in my games. I detest it.
Did you guys know I don't like questing by this point?
I've served my time and done my grind. Any master schematics have already been earned by the amount of time and money I've spent on this profession.
Please, no questing. Please. I beg you!
That would be pretty sweet if there was a way to give a Master Schematic to only the Master Chefs that had been a Master chef for quite a while. Say 2 months or something. Good idea.
Dont know if they could do it, but it would be nice to give a bit of a reward to the longterm Chefs that have had to put up with all the bugs and crap for so long.
Im not against the quest idea, but given SOE's (including EQ) versions of quests i dont think they could come up with one that didnt involve "rare loot" off of krayts or something. I'd love to be proven wrong but i dont think that would happen.
Oh and another fun idea would be to put in schematics for Faction purchase. Imp and rebel.
They could have a very high FP requirement schematic to purchase that would maybe give +10% faction points on the missions for that particular faction or something like that.
As long as you kept the purchase to FP only and the benifit in the FP only I dont see how non factioned or non combat skilled chefs could really complain about it (I would never be able to get it probably) but it would give a great perk for those chefs that do choose a side in the GCW and take the time to go combat.
Just throwing out some ideas.

Agree Mostly on this point, but I feel that rich PA's are even more likely to take advantage of something non-combat, since then it would require less luck/skill, and more money.

This can be solved with the great "Everlasting Gobstopper" schematic
. 100-1000 uses per stack. Don't ever expect to see your customers again after selling a crate of those.

Coupla responses to this one....First off, it sounds like you're a longtime non-PA master who feels crowded in by holo-chefs and aspiring chefs who have read the redesign document. Some newer PA chefs on this board my consider this elitist, but I wouldn't worry too much, because it's my experience that with crafting success comes crafting retirement. Excluding this player type from new content seems unfair, especially since a true Explorer type chef could master the profession in a month anyway. As for the time thing, I know of 2 chefs that have been masters for a long time, and one has never had a vendor of his own (no merchant), and the other just does mail order. Tracking straight time as a master chef would require a lot of bookkeeping on SOE's part, and would create issues if someone surrendered/reearned master chef. I think that a time-based profession rewards might not be technicallyfeasable.

Completely agree on this point, themed quests with themed rewards sound like a lot of fun.
the only reason I suggested vendor time was that from SOE's various responses regarding not being able to retro-actively award badges...well they probably have better vendor records than they have records of what profession was mastered (since game mails have a time stamp, and one is issued whenever someone buys something from a vendor). no offense to the new chefs...but if you haven't endured the months and months of bugs, and lack of any kind of dev responses...well there should be some way to distinguish between a chef who likes their profession for what it is, and those that just want to make credits, and this is really applicable to any of the professions that haven't had any dev attention until just recently...like BE's, and DE's. sure its great to have a profession that finally works, and is going to become a lot better...but it also stings a bit to see a newbie chef jump in simply because they think chef will be the next "uber" profession.
its good to see more chefs...but its also hard to tell which chef is a real chef, and which one is just a holo chef...infernal holocrons.
I was thinking the same thing. If they end up designing skill mods for crafters, is it out of balance to include chef bonus food? Maybe a BE additive that grants it might be sufficient, so that there is at least some interdependancy with other professions.

Haha! I like the sound of that..*pats tum* Kinda like licking the mixing bowl, eh?
I'm personally not particularly enthusiastic about quests, given my own schedule, but they *would* be optional, at any rate...I suppose it would be nice to get out of the kitchen once in a while!
