Thread: Chef undercutting AGAIN!

I'm on Lowca, Coronet, and I'm browsing thru the food and drinks and I find TS for 100 a charge! I'm trying to scrape a living as it is, and 100 cr doesnt even cover the base costs + maintenance not to mention the hours it takes to make a crate of the stuff. (yea i can do it by hand too, but who want to crank out exp'd starshines now much less all the TS's).

Now, since the stack bug, I have not sold a thing either on the bazaar or personally. I'm quickly running out of cash for my 1 large, 6 medium harvesters, factory and house (yea, what do I need all that for if I'm not selling anything, I can't sell anything if I don't HAVE anything). I had orders that noone wants anymore, my sunburns are as good as pet food once bugged (how do you drop stuff in the field?!?!?) I'm hoofin it out on Dath for cash now with bare combat skills...thank you guild for letting me come along!

All I have to say is that between the 100s durations, the garbage stats (for the most part), people with cash to burn, and the bugs, WTH is the point of being a chef???

Lower level recipes in the Chef line (outside of Sunburns) are pretty much useless until you get Cooking IV and can make them mediocre. Personally, I had to run missions to earn cash to get materials for grinding until I got to Cooking IV and could make some foods with decent stacks. While not ideal, running easy kill missions allows you to build up some harvested resources (assuming basic scout skills) or you can actually craft while running artisan missions thus killing two birds with one stone as it were.

You really can't expect the sunburn market to remain profitable when the traditional Chef path is:

Grind to Entrees I to get Stewed Gwouch.

Grind to Mix 2 to get Ithorian Mists and make the big bucks selling Sunburns.

Grind to Cooking IV to get the quality and quantity up.

Grind to Master Chef.

You get too many people trying to make a living off of selling the same product and the market price is going to drop. Basic supply and demand. What I might suggest is following the above schedule but find some high OQ organic and make large stacks of Stewed Gwouch to sell on bazaar as pet food. All those pets running around there have to eat something and it will help pay the bills while you work towards being able to make better people food.

There's no law saying you must charge x per use, or a minimum of x.

If you are happy getting 500cr a stack, there's no problem with charging that. If you are happy charging 3k a stack & can get that, then fine.
Not everyone is in it to make a million. I am a Chef for the PA, any sales I make outside are a bonus to me.
If I wanted I could sell at under 2cr per unit used and still make a small profit. As it happens, I charge a minimum of 5cr a unit, and I am very happy with the cash I make - I currently have 280k excess on me.

I wouldnt worry about the undercutting, its their loss of profit not really yours. Even though they are selling cheap doesnt mean the entire market won't buy at 500 credits a charge. Most people spend their credits like water and price isnt really an issue, high or low.

Yup, I see one weaponsmith selling a gun at 25k, another at 10k, both same stats, and both will sell them & make decent cash, same goes with Chefs.

argh, no edit

Meant to add, you can only make a certain amount of food & drink per day, and there's generally more custom out there than any single person can cater for.

Find out what you need to sell for to make a profit. Then never waiver from that price. People will pay if you make quality product. Even with the bug, I still make money hand over fist. Breath of heaven, sunburn, fishak surprise, tempari, thakitillo, ryshcate, trimpian, charde (yes charde), all of them sell VERY well on my 4 vendors located across the galaxy.

Just stick it out, and ride the current. You will go through some dry spots, but in the end you will make out just fine. Ignore what other people are selling for unless you have not sold anything in a week.

yeah if you havent sold anything in a week there is a serious problem. I sell out of items daily and have 3 factories working 24/7 that can barely keep up.

Add me to the list of people that havent sold anything for about 5 days, since my re-grand opening(Except the leftover 1 credit stuff from the re-opening) I have my vendors on the planetart map as well as having my shop VERY close to theed.

Starting to get concerned, so I am going around to different bazaars and petting 1 or 2 items up with an ad. Hope things pick up soon.

Martyn tell me what your skill level is and I will filter my overflow business to you. I can't keep some of the lower level things in stock that people want crates of.

I dont know I think with crates chef makes no sells at all now.

I sell sunburns at 15k a crate on my vender and for the first 2 weeks at that price I couldnt keep them in stock but now no ones comming back yet..

I asked the people who bought them why not and they say "I still have 3 crates left" So basicly 1crates of sunburns lasts like a week of play so repeat customers are rare if they are buying alot more then one crate at a time.

As for the food buf no one I know complains about it and my prices are not per charge I charge per resources and time invested in getting the resources.

If chef didnt take me soo much hardwoork and time to achieve I would surender the skill .. like she said whats the point? My buffs are useless I PvP all the time and only use them before I die so I have a shorter incap timer

Thats not enough of a reason for me personaly to go out and buy them.. my Guild also has 3 doctors (*master *) and abour 2 more working there way up .. basicly everyone I know that is just one combat profesion and not a crafter is getting Doctor to be uber in PvP .. Something needs to be done Doctor kills the entire Chef Profesion im sorry its true..

I dont know about your server but on Corbantis on Tatoonie if you go to bestine or AH you will most likely find a doctor buffing for free or really cheap in the cantina or med center.

"I still have 3 crates left"

Maybe because you sold them for 15k. If you'd sold them for 3-4 times that price maybe you'd have sold just one crate and gotten a few repeat customers.
