Actually, I have one alt that I play on a regular basis. Master Marksman / TKA, working on Commando. So I DO know combat. I have never once had a need for large buffs. In fact, the only doctor buffs that I get are when I am grouped with one. I have done all of that xp straght.
If those are the only prof you have done you dont know squat about Ham costs. So quit trying to insult us who have done most of them and do know what we are talking about. All the profs you have done on eather of your toons are stilin the low ham cost cat. when you do master carbiner, pikeman, high lvl tka,or BH carbine then you can try to tell me about HAM costs.
I tend to agree with Staren here in that Chef food shouldn't be the best buffs out there, as far as HAM goes. If someone wants some sweet buffs to their HAM, they should search out a Master Doctor, not raid a Master Chefs vendor. What I like about the new system is that the Chef buffs are still good, but not nearly as good as a Master Doctor, Master Dancer/Musician can give players. Sometimes, people need that added jolt of energy to finish off a high level mob or to save himself/herself from a mind incap and that's why they carry the food around.
When I go hunting nowadays, I carry Fishak and Tatooine Sunburn on me... butI don't take the stuff non-stop. I use it at pivitol moments, when my action bar is almost gone or my mind is taking a beating (or the dreaded Muon downer!). While I do like the added boost of energy it gives me, I would still prefer to see a nice doc and get all my action and health stats buffed up before I run around Dathomir looking for some witch to smack me with lightning. Now with the new Chef foods, I would much prefer to take something that upped my dodge or accuracy, this making me more effective in combat... courseI will carry blue milk for those unhappy occasion when some critter nails my mind...
I may be new to Chef, but I'm no stranger to PvE... it's my forte, and I love the new changes.
Well, I agree with the guy that stated to master carbineer. Also, please try out master rifleman w/o being a zabrak or human with maxed out mind attributes. I'm a rodian with master rifleman and it takes 120-180 mind EACH special. I mean come on, you can spam with a pistol doing 800-2400 dmg (stopping shot / last ditch) forever, but I hit for 1500-3000 dmg and kill myself after 3-4 shots?! Thats not fair.
Ham cost needs to be changed, nothing to do with buffs at all. Carbineer / Rifleman is the worst two that i've played so far and I have mastered 31 professions on 2 accounts. It's nearly impossible to play either of those two classes without full doctor buffs, muon gold and food.
PVP? Well, it's over-rated anyways all together. 75% reduction and ppl with 3000-5000 HAM - I mean come on, get realistic here, has anyone seen someone get shot 15-20 times w/o dying?! I think not. There should be a limit to buffs in pvp, my opinion. Now with the revamp, they can buff thier modifiers as well as thier HAM, makes perfect sense to me ... NOT! I mean not only can they have 3000-5000 HAM, but they can have 100++ dodge/def vs kd.
NO FLAMING HERE! Just my opinions of the matter (Yes, I have a master chef, along with 2 other characters combat and another character master doc/master cm). So, I know nearly every class in the game through trying to open 2 FSCS's on two accounts. There is a lot that is unbalanced with this game and even after what .. 7 - 8 months it's still screwed up?! I mean they should stop to FIX the bugs instead of revamping anything or adding anything new with 50+ more bugs...
Ok, getting off the subject again, anyways, I think I said my 2 cents and then some... I just hope they fix all these stupid bugs before going live with it, but hey we're talking about SOE here - they don't know the meaning of FIXING bugs!
I have to agree with the sentiment that buffs generally allow people to take down creatures that they shouldn't be able to. Of course as someone who has Mastered Carbineer (and kept it, not just hologrinded it) as well as TKA (different characters) I think I know a fair bit about combat. And the difference that buffs makes is huge. +500 quickness or so allows me to use burstshot2 constantly...effectively tripling or so my DPS compared to if I just use specials to apply state effects and then occassionally.
They need to tone down doctor buffs too...but if they do that and sort out HAM costs in the combat rebalance then the special properties of some of the new foods will be very, very useful.

I can't understand this point of view. The only purpose of a chef is to buff. In the beginning he was the only profession intended to buff peoples stats.
Docs heal, revive ... they have multiple jobs ... they don't really need to buff ... it's just a way to powerfull addition (IMO). Entertainers originaly only had the ability to heal, now they can also buff and buff much better than chefs can (more stats for much longer time).
So Chefs, the original and only real buff profession shouldn't be powerful anymore? Other professions orginaly not intended to buff should take away the only purpose of Chef? What should a Chef do then?
Don't get me wrong, I don't want these other professions to not be able to buff anymore, but it's the Chefs, the original and sole concentrated on buff profession that should be able to provide the best buffs. In my opinion it's the Docs that should have the short term in the battle "added jolt of energy to finish off a high level mob or to save himself/herself from a mind incap
