People in combat groups don't need Artisans to use weapon-powerups either Everyone can *consume* food, but not everyone can *use* medkits. Thus people need a doctor and some crates of food/spice/powerups. Doesn't mean they don't need Chefs at all.

You are comparing apples with oranges

That was precisely the point.

The only combat players I see screaming nerfhereare the ones that will after the patch, not be able to put on 2 buffs andgp kill raid levelMOBsby spaming specals.

Then you haven't been reading very closely.

Food is qualitatively different from doctor & entertainer buffs ... it is portable and available on demand. As such, its greatest value is not in planned activities like killing "raid level MOBs" ... doctor buffs are vastly preferable for such activities.

Food is preferable for spontaneous needs, especially PvP if you happen to be one of the folks who travels overt 24x7 and never knows when they will get tossed into a PvP encounter with a group of unknown size ... especially with GTEF mechanics where you never know the size of the opposing group. I have survived numerous PvP encounters only because after getting headshotted by the riflemen and poisoned by their GTEF'ing medic pals, I was able to gulp down a Fishak and Glucose and run awayyyyyy. The food didn't make me "uber" and it certainly didn't allow me to retaliate and vanquish a trio of doctor-buffed opponents ... it let me survive when I had a spontaneous need.

Nerfing the good mind-buff foods means that PvP'ers are totally at the mercy of pre-buffed attack groups using GTEF. That the devs could fail to be aware of this just shows a frightening level of ignorance of the game's current PvP mechanics.

This change is great, it is exactly what we need.

The smart player are going to realize that our buffs are now unique, and very useful.

If we can't buff stats very much anymore, that only means that we don't have the compeition from other classes like we did before, we only have competition from other Chefs....That's how it should be.

This is a huge change, Chef is going to be almost nothing like it was before...isn't that what we wanted?

You will not have any compeition in its currant form on test as I and many others see 90% of the new foods for what they, are just fillers, good for that situatoin where they might provide me theMARGINAL advantage in PVP but the truth is I dont PVP that much maybe 4-5 times a day tops withmy MBH who always travels overt.

All this will do is let me purchase a few crates of stuff that will last me a month or 2 and force me to get docs buffs. That 3 or 4 crates of stuff so that i have one of each of the good ones will last at least a month where my currant crates of foods i usualy burn a crate every few days of each of the stuff i carry with me.

Ona positive note i am starting to see the benifits to this new patch, I will have done every one of the combat profs by the time ti nerf hits with the exception, of pikeman which just doesnt seem interesting to me, and this is as good a promt as any to after i finish them all up go to either Doc/tailor( the only crafting prof aside chef i havent tried out) so I can keep myother toon and friends buffed up with the only viable set of buffs in the game or go back to weaponsmithing and add slicing 4 to it.

Buffs are not a bug in this game, they are in fact very intended. The game mechanics greatly disaggree with your opinion on this. The game mechanics may later change, but I don't care to be hunting worts outside the city unless I spend an hour or two trying to get a group together.

To the poster above me (I don't know how to quote )

You you said Me, My, or I 16 times in that post (I think, it's a rough #). I think that you are only thinking of the way this revamp will affect you. There is nothing wrong with that of course, this isn't a flame. When I am reading something I will usually think about that affects me first, then others later. My point is that if you get 1000 people together, you will find 1000 opinions on any subject.

You may not like this revamp. You may not take the time to find out that at first glance, "fillers" will have their use.

The image of the chef making crates and crates of things for people is the old image.

This revamp allows for people to buy one stack of the stuff that would be used infequently. They can buy crates of stuff they think they will use more often.

Imagine, pay 4000-6000 credits, and get ten different stacks of food. When you need that little extra dodge boost, or that short incap time, or that terrain negotiation, you've got it right there.

It was never meant for a Chef to be forced to run multiple factories to meet demands. This revamp is going to make for a more healthy economy.

As a Chef, with four factories,I can make 1 million credits every 4 days, assuming my crates and crates sold, which they usuallydid. That was with me logging in for maybe 45 minutes a day. One person isn't supposed to make credits that fast. Show me one combat profession where you can make 1 million credits for 3 hours of work, consistantly.

Wow, I rambled ...Sorry about that.

Basically, this revamp is giving Chef's more variety, and less focus, which is exactly what we need. Am I going to make less money? A lot less, yes. Is it worth it to get rich slower but have a lot more items that do different things? Hell yes.

I think you are probably talking to me and not the other person who rudly inturup[ed your post you are 100% correct i am thinking about the way this patch effects me but I feel that there are many in the game with my same general style of play and this is backed up by a pool taken on these fourms where SoE gave us several optoins to pick from about what aspect of the game we enjoy most and PVE was the decive winner.

There is a PVP aspect to this game but is is far inferor to most PVP online games so it is a subset of this game in keeping with the GCW that should be ongoing.

There is a crafting aspect to this game and i know someting about it haveing mastered 2 of them as my 3rd and 4th Elite profs back in Aug playing them for several months but this part of the game is simply a fun way to give players the optoin to make stuff to support the first 2 styles of play along with the RP that can form a foundation for all 3.

Having done some of each and currantly veiwing these changes primarily from the standpoint of the largest group of players, as determined by SoEs poll, Ifeel that lends some credence to my views. *shurg* youhowever are more than welcome to disagree as not everyone can always be correct

What I object to is nerfing an ability in anticipation of a rebalance thats months in the future.

I like to spam specials bodyshot2 in full composite while using a powerup doesn't drop my ham while im on boh and 2 ryshcate which is nice.

The thing is i will still be able to do this now ill just have to get my buffs from others rather than my food.

It is somewhat interesting to me that anyone would complain about HAM costs, since that is one of the main focuses of the upcoming combat rebalance. It would seems prudent that the Chef buff changes would have to be designed with the rules of the new system in mind.

So I guess what I'm saying is we are all equally uninformed on this one. But one thing that can be stated as near fact is the current buff system (especially the master foods...which of course are the only ones anyone cares about) would probably be overpowered in some respects, in deference to HAM costs.

I would agree with you if either the new combat rebalance we being released at the same time as these changes, or if there was at least a forecast of when the rebalance will be done.

It's like this to me: Let's say I live in an area that doesn't have digital cable TV. The company calls me up and says "Guess what, we're going to be upgrading the service in your area to digital sometime". So I say that's great. Then they say "Oh, and by the way, we are replacing your cable box with a digital cable box." Again, I say that's great. Then they say "Oh, by the way, until the service is upgraded, you'll only be able to get 5 channels - but, you've got this great new box."

Yes, I may begetting something new and exciting that is based on newer and better technology, but until all the infrastructure is in place to support it, I would have been better off with my old cable box.

I think the changes to Chef are interesting and exciting, but I see the point that many are making here - since the new buffs are based on a combat system that isn't out there yet, they appear to be worse than what people already have. I'm sure that once the new system is in place, the new buffs will make sense and be just as in-demand as the current ones, but the lag time between these two events is what is causing the distress, I think.

That is probably the best analogy I have read yet for this revamp. Any way we could get SirVimes to get this to TH and see his response? I am still hoping that we will get dev communication on the purpose of our early revamp, but maybe this would spark something.
