Thinking of checking out the Chef profession.. but I have one question for all of you.. How do you keep up with all the resources for your products? I've heard that some require 10 or more different ingredients. Specifically, how do you keep up with all that organic stuff.. meat/hide, etc.?

Curious...

How do we keep up? Patiently.

Really, my bottom floor of my house has resources stacked in groups. My veggies are in one group and within that group, they are further seperated by greens, beans etc.

Once you either lay it all out or bag everything up in backpacks labeled for what they are, you get the hang of it.

I tend to focus on at most two resources at a time with my limited 7 slots for harvesting. I also tend to buy resources from friends who have empty lots to use.

have 10 harvestors constantly mining stuff (20 if you do lot swaps, or more etc..)
Buy everything you can get your hands on.. i.e we chefs pay 50 CPU for fruits on Ahazi.. > http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ahazi_trade&message.id=54484

Just mine, mine, mine, mine, buy, buy, buy and do more mining + buying. It's hard work being a chef. I hope once the fly-by-nighters find this out, they either drop chef (too much work) or not go for it at all. Fly-by-nighters are starting to ruin the uniqueness of being a chef now in SWG *sigh*

Hehe, 10 or more different ingredients? On another thread someone asked what resources they needed for chef, SirVimes said "Everything", and it came out pretty close. Counting the components from other professions, the only harvestable resource chefs cannot use is solid petrochem.

Generally, though, you'll use the sameresource in slots that requirethat type(like fruits, berries, greens, etc) along with more generic requirements (fruit, vegetables, flora food). So while you can use corn in any "cereal" slot, nothing requires it, so unless you picked up a good stack somewhere you probably won't be actively going out to find it. Exceptions are obviously made if some with really good stats spawn somewhere (make sure to check swgcraft.com on a regular basis).

I'm more of a low-key merchant, so I don't generally do factory runs larger than 20 for any given thing. I've got six medium flora harvesters, but unless something pops up that I must have, only 3-5 are active at any one time (which leaves me a lot or two for things like gas or gemstones). Leave those up for 4-5 days on a decent concentration and I've got a stack that'll last me a while. Then I just rotate through my various needs.

Creature resources are another story. With the expanded menu making foods wiht meat/hide more useful, I've started making contacts with a few scouts/rangers to supply them. I don't have much fun with combat, so I decided to outsource all my creature killing to other people. It works out ok, although the milk availability has been spotty.

I currently have over 150 different stacks of organics in my house, been collecting since the server came up.

I dont harvest much myself, I tend to buy in - so if I see anythng decent on offer, I buy it

I think I have gotten about 7k of milk since the patch went live. I am seriously considering dropping my AS skills to expand marksman and picking scout back so I can get some of the animal based supllies that I need.

Iwent through 20k milk on day 2 or 3 of the patch. Its just annoying running around with your head shoved in an animals backside for hours on end but its not hard. Actually, I use(d) solid petro for starshines Its usually sold pretty cheap and easy to get in good quality (on my server anyway) I had 3 small houses exclusively for resource storage as well as storing them in the factories. I typically ran about 45-50 harvs with about 30-40 of those being on flora at any given time.Occasionally I had to contract miners to fill in for me if there were a lot of good spawns at once. But with chef being all the rage now, people are actually starting to look into selling flora now so it may become easier to purchase what you need.

Oh cry me a river.

I just don't understand people who get new content and revamps so its more desireable for *them* to play the profession but they complain when it finally happens because it becomes more desireable to *others* as well.

(And no, I have no plans to be a chef myself - just a hungry wookiee now hooked on synthsteak)

And just to get back on topic... some pretty basic advice for any crafting in this game (chef, be, ws, doc, even smuggler)

Start harvesting now, even if you aren't yet commited to becoming a chef. Get your gind stuff out of the way and set aside and then start dropping harvesters on the good stuff. Watch swg craft for spawns and keep an eye on the bazaar for meats or make friends with a few scouts/rangers.

fly-by-nighters are people who swap from profession to profession (whenever they get known for being good/make money), get as much as they can out of it (either by high prices or undercutting everyone quickly as possible, make a heap of sales and then quit, do the same.

Basically, you used to be able to talk to people in cantinas, starports in regards to chef profession. Many people were genuinely intrigued why someone was a chef. Nowdays its "oh, another chef. Made your millions yet buddy? When are you gonna goto a real class" has been said to me numerous times, post patch. That's why they destroy professions.

I keep all resources in a vendor... at first only setting prices to 1mil until someone actually started buying my stock lol. so now I just do 6mil or so. Using vendor I can easily scan any double stacks I have and combine also makes looking for somthing specfic easier.

Downfall is I get nasty e-mails about my resource prices, but I always reply explaining myself and have managed new coustomers that way.

I keep all my resources on a vendor as well, except that I withdraw all the sales, so there is nothing being displayed as 'for sale'. I hoard all I can, because with things like berries, fruits and gemstones for example, I need a lot of it, all the time.

For resources, I always have at least 4 BER 13 on gemstone at all times, then I have 2 lots for my house, 2 for my factories, then I borrowed 3 lots from guild mates for my other factories, and I rent out abouta dozen or so lots from various people in my guild. I also pay my guildmembers to bring me meats and hides so i can give them to my BE for additives.
