Well the total count of my organics is quite adequate, something like 2M units but.. most fruits just require fruits, fruits, fruits, berries, berries, fruits, berries, fruits, fruits. SOME foods accept berries as fruits but others do not. Go figure.
In general I think they should revamp the resource needs for the foods. I have no complaint about the quantities but there is very little use for many flora classes.

you need about 80 lots
10 for heavy fusion gens
16 for high capacity moisture vaporizors
10 for heavy mineral mines
30 forhigh capacityflora farms
12 for factories
2 for a small house
and then after a week or so of moving these around for many hours a day you can start grinding chef

Like corn? Not used specifically in any recipe. Boggle.

Heh, the corn thing bugs me as well, glad I'm not the only one.
I spend more time watching resources and putting up harvesters than I do anything else. I am considering a second house to keep resources in. I do have a vendor but it's harder to find what I need if I put things there.
If I am low on stock then I go and harvest a few K of the best quality I can find of an item so that I at least have some until I can get a high quality version. If the resource quality meets my definition of I would say I have 15 (p)lots in constant action and if it weren't for the fact that my boyfriend would kill me, I'd be tempted to get another account simply to be able to place 8 more harvesters.
My set up is based on backpacks ... one for each type of food based on how I look for them(meat, structural, flora food, cereals, inorganic, misc) with separate bags for LQ of the same category if it's used in sub-components (cereals and flora plus an additional bag for lq meat/hides where making a bad quality stack for a friend is better than making them nothing at all because I'm out of decent scaley hide
). These are placed either side of my crafting station so that I can open a recipe, see what I need and simply click open the appropriate bag and grab what I want. My biggest problem is a tendency to leave things in the input hopper of my factory ... if I could put the factory in the room it'd be perfect.

The best way I heard it explained was this: "Berries are fruit, and fruits are fruit, but berries are not fruits". Pay close attention to whether the schematicrequires "fruit" singular (which means the whole category, including berries and flowers) or "fruits" plural, which means that specific sub-category of fruit.
Well, except for when it asks for "Tatooine fruit", then it means the fruits sub-category, you can't use Tatooine berries. /rolleyes.
Personally, I think having a lot of options make it easier to obtain good quality resources, although it may require some traveling. Sure "Corn" may not be specifically required in anything, but a lot of recipes use "cereal", so if a 999/999/999/999 corn spawned, I'd snatch it up and start making some really nice synthsteaksandveghash.

I harvest as much as I can myself, but then I outsource most of my resourcing needs to a mining group on our server. They mine for me at 3 - 3.5 CPU which is very reasonable.
As for hides and meats, well I am not the same as everyone else because I have two accounts to use...well three but 1 of those my brother uses all the time. So on one is my master TKA. I made her just for the purpose of laying the smacketh down on mobs to harvest for me. This past weekend I took her out to Endor. She was fully buffed from doctors and using food I made, she took out TONS of those huge spider lairs. With 4040 in scout, she got 92 - 215 meat off each spider, depending on the type. I had about 13K meat in only a few hours.
