Thread: Perspective: Why Chefs Have Taken So Long to Fix

Balance.

Spices and Enhancements work nicely. Anything done to make Chef buffs more valuable has a necessary and direct impact on 2 other professions, and an indirect impact on the entire game. If they made all chef buffs as cool as they ought to be considering that's 4 lines of elite as opposed to Enhancements (2 lines (one to craft and one to use)) and Spice (1 line you can grind through in about 2 hours) then they'd be the most powerful buffs in the game.

Enhancements at Master Doc hit your primaries for 3k, and secondaries from 2-2.5k - last 3 hours.

Spices, ie. Pixie and Muon, hit them for potent short term buffs, have a downer.

Chef foods would *have* to be better. Imagine how it would topple the combat side of the whole game badly out of whack if they did that. Chef foods to last a whole day perhaps? Why get Doc Enhancements? Why take Spice?

They cannot "fix" chef without completely redoing the game. They intend to do that right before the Space Expansion when they redo all the professions. I'm not saying it's cool, but this is the way it is. Anyone asking for fixes sooner than that hasn't been reading the Dev Tracker and doesn't have a clue how MMORPG balancing and update-scheduling works.

Although I *do* want to say that this board has the best humor out of any other board in SWG. I love that Chefs have such a sense of humor about their plight. Most other boards are cry cry cry whine whine whine nerf nerf nerf, and I love that you guys make fun of that. Keep it up. Eventually SOE *will* recognize that you have 4 lines of elite for buffs and yours will be the best.

Remember, you didn't even know what a commando was until they were fixed, and now you can't walk into any major city without seeing 9 or 10. The day is coming. When TH says be patient, he really means it. Love in inc, just that moves like a pre-nerf Jax =).

I wish they lasted 1 week, boosted 10,000 pts to every stat, and I was the only one who could eat them

I agree with Saitek... then I could take on Jedi with my equipable rolling pin and use Health Roll 1, Health Roll 2, and then Power Roll. Rinse, repeat.

Sorry, but I gotta disagree with you.

First off, chefs should have the best buffs in the game. That is all we do, is buff. Doctors and Smugglers all have other way sto make money and affect the game, Chefs don't.

Secondly, why take spice and doc enhancements if food was so good? That is the easy one: because they stack. It does not have to be an either or thing. They can take both, which is the advantage food has over medicines and spice. We can stack.

Third, they can "fix" the chef profession without redoing the whole game. I know because I have seen the early plans for it. There are ways where we can be improved without stepping on the toes of doctors and smugglers. And this is going to go in before the space expansion comes out.

The reason why this is taking too long is two fold: First, the developer who is in charge of designing chefs is in charge of designing a lot of stuff...including player cities. We had to wait until player cities are out. Now that player cities are out, well, he is also working on all the bugs, but he is also taking his time to do things right. He has to balance over 100 schematics (think it is 109?). That is going to take time. He has to code each new buff in, make sure it works....and I am glad he is taking his time in doing this. Let's get it right the first time.

or as right as possible.

Um, that's what I was saying. I agree with you, you agree with me.

Secondly, why take spice and doc enhancements if food was so good? That is the easy one: because they stack. It does not have to be an either or thing. They can take both, which is the advantage food has over medicines and spice. We can stack.

Granted, but Chef foods will be most powerful and be easy to take in the field when needed. Docs aren't like that, Spices have downers. I'm a smuggler and believe me, there is a definite divide between players who understand spice and use them, and those who fear them because of the oh-so-dreaded downer. That divide will grow as Chef foods get better. Which is a good thing. I'm just saying that people are lazy. Foods can go with them come in big stacks, etc. They'll be powerful and they'll be easy. Enhancements and Spices will be less powerful and less easy to use. Human nature.

Still, please read, I think that would be *good*. Its just that the Devs have to be careful not to, as you say, step on too many toes. You watch. When the Chef profession is working as intended, which is to say "has the best buffs in the game," docs and smugs will whine. Too bad for them.

Third, they can "fix" the chef profession without redoing the whole game. I know because I have seen the early plans for it. There are ways where we can be improved without stepping on the toes of doctors and smugglers.

I know, but I don't expect to see that go live until they are doing their big profession push that will encompass many professions.

And this is going to go in before the space expansion comes out.

I also said that. I just think it'll be *right* before.

Let's get it right the first time, or as right as possible.

Amen, my brutha.

Unfortunately you have 4 different buffing fields : Chefs, Doctors, Smugglers, and Entertainers (Yes I know technically this is two different elites but I am lumping together for the sake of this post and I am discounting Scout foraged food since it is not common).

Start each of the four out with 0 points. At the end of this who has the most points should have the lowest buffs as they are the better or more flexible or something. Not going into duration nor power just yet.

Add +2 to both Chefs and Smuggler as their food is portable and usable by all. +1 to Doctors and Entertainers as they are required to be there but it can be done in a camp as opposed to having to be in a city (+0 would be a class that must be in city to buff). Add +2 to entertainers as no resources are required only time. +1 to smugglers as they requires resources but quality doesn't really matter. Add +2 toSmugglers asthey need fewest skill points in order to buff (correct me if I am wrong here). Add +1 to doctors as they need fewer skill points than a chef or entertainer but more than ansmuggler to buff. Add +2 toChefs as they areable to buff everything. Add +1 to doctors and smugglers as they aren't as capable. +2 to Chefs Doctors and Entertainers as they don't have a downer.

So that brings us to:

Chef 6pts Smuggler 6pts Entertainers 5pts Doctors 5pts

So maybe things are fairly balanced?

Heh ...

... huh?

That made my head hurt. What fantastically odd way to evaluate the professions. Invalid at best, but interesting nonetheless.

May be invalid with this level of granularity but point systems are often used to evaluate different armies in miniature games. How does my unit of experienced skirmishers compare to your larger but more green militia troops? When comparing apples and oranges, one needs a common base reference.
