Thread: How many of you rename your foods?

Lately, I've been having fun by renaming my foods if they have a critical mass of repeat customers. If it is a little sought food I leave the name alone.

Right now I live in a town called Babelon mostly founded by an entertainers guild (which explains some of the names I chose)

Breath of Heaven became Babelon Whispers
Rhyscate became Babelon Sweet Nothings
Corellian Fried Ice Cream became Babelon Simple Bliss
Angerian Fishnak Surprise became Babelon Peace of Mind
Tattooine Sunburns became Babelon Fleeting Passion

Still working on other names right now...

Oh I definitely do!

Lots of fun to be had... I usually add my brand name, and fiddle with the food name itself so that it's unusual to catch the eye, but still recognizable [to the people with no sense of humor, usually ]. Plus if it has a pet connotation I'll add that as well, or a hint as to the buff [eg. tag on "vat 122" for a buff doing +122]

An example:

ArenFood-2-Go Pet treats - Bofa & Kibble flavor

Chef in a video game is just too wierd to not have fun with it....

I know I should and keep wanting to but I keep forgetting. The other problem is that it confuses regular customers as to what they are buying. I renamed Vegiparsine as Fresh Fruit and people who bought it got confused when I told them to buy Vegiparsine when they wanted more fresh fruit.

I only rename two: Ryshcate (with alcohol) and Veghash and those to Armor Buff B and A (resp); that's how I market them.

All others I leave alone. We've a lot of foods with rather complicated, long or just plain incomprehensible names. I feel that renaming them confuses possible customers more. *shrugs*

Anyway that's my two cents.

the only thing I consistantly rename is blood chowder..just cause it sounds so..gross. Any blood chowder I make will be called Chili unless its for halloween in which case I simply use the default name /boggle. I dont rename food except for special occasions because I want people to be able to come in and spot what they want easily. I dont want them to go to Docs page and come to my store and spend 30 minutes looking forvegeparsine which Ive named pretty frilly decorative food. I want people to be able to quickly spot what they need no matter where they heard about it from. However I will always make personalized food for people if they request it.

hrmm oh yea I rename my cased bofas to petfood hehe.

Pet food gets renamed, obviously, and my high-buff Sunburns are "Sith Sunburns". Different enough to catch the eye, but still recognizable.

I used to rename everything...but as the factory runs became larger and more frequent, I stopped. It wasfun briefly, but in the end I found it was better for my business to not tinker with the names, unless there was an express purpose such as RP (like specially named items on my cantina vendor). I do called pet crates "scooby snacks", but beyond that everything pretty much stays the same.

Well I do try to leave the original name in the title until I think I have enough ciritcal mass of customers that even if a couple are confused, I'll still selling.

Like someone said, Chefs in a video are too rare (or is that medium rare) to not have fun.

Besides, maybe it goes both ways, maybe I can get people so hooked to peace of minds that if they go to another vendor and see fishnak they won't know what to buy.

The one time I made Blood chowder was a special order. He wanted it renamed to Blood of the Innocents because he used to joke with other crafters the reason his items (don't remember which ones) were because he used blood of the innocents in the schematic.

I generally stick to the given name, and I add a [MMM] on the front end of it. When one of the bigger chefs on the server quit, I got all his customers, and he had all unique names so people had no idea what they wanted...I'm just trying to spare all those future chefs out there from lengthy explanations.

I used to add color for buff type purposes, but that's all gone now

I especially like renaming meat-based foods since I am a vegetarian chef.

For example,

Blood Chowder - "Egg Suspension Protosoup"

I try to avoid renaming 'popular' foods; I've also started adding the buffs to the food name to help people understand what they do.
