Ok i just grinded my way to Chef because i thought it would be a interested and not so widly used proffesion... now i know why there are almost NO chefs on Flurry.

1) You need 32000 xp to get the next skill in ANY tree. Now alone this wouldnt be a problem, BUT, when you have to make well over 400 items equaling near 20k in recources that alone make the Chef Profession totaly insane. I mean yes grinding is part of all crafting classes. But come one, i can make about 60 Ubese Jackets and get a level.

2) It seems to me that most of the food i can make as a novice chef isnt as good as the stuff i was able to make in Dom4?? Arnt Chefs suppose to be a specialized class?? Then why is it that when i make any of the food from Novice Chef, and then make a Starshine Sunrise the Sunrise is MUCH better? This dosent make any sense.

3) Most of the food i make dosent give anywhere near the exp it should. Most items i make as a Armorsmith at at least x2 the required recources. But not Chefs. It seems we have to spend 2 time the time, 2 times the recources, and 2 times the effort to make a product for more then 5 time less then it should be sold for.

4) NO ONE WANTS FOOD. I cant even give food away to people that buy my armor, as kind of a treat for shopping with me. People see the food in the window for trade and they cancle, then i tell them its free for shopping with me and they say no thanks food is useless??? **edit**???

Im not here to dogg this class and im not here to discurage other Chefs or wannabe Chefs... But i HAD to get this off my chest. I took about half my harvesters offline and exchanged them for Flora farms and water vaporators. This is cutting well into my needed resources for armorsmithing, But on the other hand if they made this class alot more useful then i would actually stick with it, but as it is right now, i belive Chef is broken alot worse then any other class... Sorry guys but its true. Unless im totally missing something for only being a Novice??!!??

Its ok, we all came to the same realization.

I actually find it interesting that I don't have to do anything for merchant XP, and will probably master the profession in another week. I only wish Chef xp was as easy to pull in.

yeah i totally agree, I pull in Merchant XP, and armoramithing XP pretty easy with just a little forward thinking and resource gathering. But the lack or demend, lack or balanced xp, and total lack of anything interesting in this profession has let me high and dry, i mean i have been sampling for wheat on a partch of 86% for about 2 hours now, maybe ever 5 or 6 minutes i can make another item and get a whopping 73 xp for it.... at this rate it will take me about a week of constant crafting to get my frst Chef skill... i dont think so. Im sorry to say i will be leaving this profession

Not sure about the XP thing. I find that MOST things give experience 2x the amount of resources it requires. There are some exceptions, though. Wastril bread takes 45 resources but gives 70 experience. (Odd thing, I think that in the strategy guide it lists it as requiring 35 resources.) However, I think most of the stuff gives you 2x.

On the other stuff, however, I completely, completely agree with you and these are the issues we are trying to push on the devs and hopefully see a response soon.

And I do agree with you about leaving the profession. Every time I hear about somebody becoming a chef I am worried they will become burned out. I really hope you check out the chef profession again in a month or two to see if the profession has improved...I really hope it does.

Yea, I grinded my way to Novice and was disappointed. And then I grinded my way to Entrees I: Basic Meals. Lo-and-Behold, I was disappointed again. I have actually decided that every single "elite" profession is broken and pretty much worthless, of course there is a scale of worthlessness, with Merchant and Chef being high on the worthless chart. At this point, I don't know if I should cancel my subscription or what.

I have checked out both the Chef forum and the Merchant forum and all the ideas I had for making these two better have already been created in the lists. And where are the lists as far as implementing them? ..shrugs.. Who knows? But I can guarantee you this, I feel like my time and money would be better spent on a pay toilet.

I apologize for my negativity, but I can no longer claim to be the innocent Novice Artisan I used to be.

I've just taken up weaponsmithing, and have I got news for you... the best xp per item I can get is 60. Yes 60. With practice 63. And my items are totally worthless(and worse than a cdef made by a decent artisan). I haven't read the weaponsmith forum much yet, but I'm fairly sure that they're not complaining half as much, despite there being huge bugs in that too(try doing some research into the bugs with other professions. Also, from what I hear, the weaponsmith correspondent is an incompetent fool, so I wouldn't read into his reports too much). With chef we have to get 2 skill boxes to get a markettable item. With weaponsmith you have to get techniques IV, and a couple of boxes in firearms till you'll make a few sales. Weaponsmithing is completely dominated by the masters, and you wont get much money in it till you master. Same thing with the majority(but not all) of elite professions, so you should be happy to be selling your sunburns after just two boxes.

Armorsmithing and architecture are nice easy professions for levelling up on. They do still need the same amount of resources(ok, armorsmith needs a bit less). It's just less combines for levelling. Those two are the exception.

Table of no of combines for 1st skillbox:

1) Weaponsmith: 508 combines of weapons upgrade kits.

2) Chef: 438 combines of wastril bread.

3) Droid engineer: 353 combines of MSE droids.

4) Tailor: 253 combines of ribbed shirts.

5) Armorsmith: Only 56 or socombines of mabari armorweave chest plates(plus 56 combines for the component segments). But these need synth cloths from a tailor's factory, so aren't exactly easily grindable

6) Architect: Something like 8 small houses, which each take a total of 13 combines each.

Yes, we do have it tough, but as you can see nearly all the elite crafters have to grind quite a lot. The only reason there's so many master weaponsmiths around is from when factories gave 100% xp.

I like grinding "gwouch". Yes, there are things that can be made that give more than 105 xp (in practice mode) per unit. However, gwouch is 20 water and 30 any organic. Thus, I can just go buy whatever organics are being sold dirt cheap regardless of quality and sit on the roof of my house and grind. The time saved in resource gathering probably makes up for the lower xp per item... and it's a LOT cheaper.

Cheers,

It is a grind, but the effort is somewhat rewarding when you hit Master

I need to make a correction to that weaponsmith number... due to weaponsmiths needing 35K xp(rather than the 32K I though it was), they need to grind 550 pistol barrels.

I think there should be a rule in the game that you can only grind stuff that you can pronounce outloud with a straight face.
