Thread: Crafting Tool & Station Effectiveness Q?
Just for clairity the effectiveness of Food and Chemical Crafting Tool and Stations.... I've seen -10, +6, +20 and even heard of +40. My understanding was that the higher theeffectiveness the LESS critical failures you got and that was the extent of it. Now Im hearing it may affect buff size, timing and stack size. Is this true or is this a rumor?
Also what are you all using out there as +'s? Until a few weeks ago i had negative ones to grind but now im using +10's personal and +20 station .. just wondering if its worth upgrading them thanks.

My stationis 34.99. My tool is 12.93. These are upgrades from about 8 for the station and 8 for the tool, and I notice not a gigantic improvement but some improvement.
All I've heard/experienced is that the effectiveness affects your rate of success/failure when craftingand experimenting. I've never heard or seen evidence that it directly affects quality, except that if you succeed more in experimenting you tend to get better stuff.
I haven't bother running quantifiable experiments, but this is what i've noticed:
1) I appear to fail a *whole lot* more with the -10 food station in my house than with any of my craft droids or the +30/40 one at a friend's place. Might be perception, but I notice these failures more.
2) When I do experiment, I appear to get better peak results when using the higher quality stations - ie, if i really want to make a killer schematic, there's no where else to work.
3) Not all droids are created equally - I think I might be dreaming, but my old old crafting droid (from 3rd week or so of release) doesn't come close to comparing to my new shiney one made by a master droid engineer. I get onat least a 25%greateryield while experimenting with it.
So should you bother with the +40 station? It's not manditory, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt.
What's the best anyone has seen?
My 14.43 tool is made with 930 conductivity copper at full experimentation. Since conductivity is the only factor in tool effectiveness, it is 7% away from max.
I don't know how high a station can get. The architect who made mine was gradually increasing his quality over the course of a week or two before he hit that. It uses a variety of parts (some from a droid engineer), and each part's quality matters.
Ive had
-8 food craft tool;+4 craft station
+14 craft tool;+14 craft station
and
+14 craft tool;+39.75 craft station
The quality of the craft tool from my experience
a)helps reduce the number of outright critical failures - as in any material will fail no matter what the quality
b)helps increase your likelyhood of acombine - as in even if I put stinky materials I can make the combine
c)increases the likelyhood of getting a better success - as in from "ok" to "great" to "amazing"
The quality of the craft station comes into play during experimentation.
The better the rating the more likely
a) reduces chance of failures and the types of failures ( from "failure" to "critical failure")
b)increases chance of experimental success. The red bar on the side is determined by the complexity of the item and the quality of your materials. The better the station the better your chance of overcoming it.
c) increase likelyhood of a better experimental success(again from "success" to "great" to "amazing")
You can get a +14 craft tool by crafting it from a high cond metal (I used copper) ; a +40 craft station is made with a high cond metal and then all the optional combine components.
When I use 900+ avg score materials , a +14 craft tool and a +40 station "great" successes is expected and amazing successes are common and failures are rare(5%). At experiementation I again expect "great" experiments, commonplace "amazing" and rare failures.

I have a 28.90 (or something close I remember the 29)crafting station and 15.0 crafting tools
I noticed alot of improvements from my -11 crafting station
but I use a Droid now it seems to be the best.. so i just use my R4 droids crafting station I dont know it seems to get the most sucesses
ok thanks everyone that helps alot ... i got a c3po droid made last night and i insisted it come with a food crafting station chip of course... i chatted with the DE and he told me the result he got with his food chip was +59% (the max he ever got with experimentation was +61%)
i have no way of seeing that for myself though as when you look at all the specs of the droid it doesnt list food effectiveness ... ive used it a little and so far the results have been interesting but not scientific
thanks alot for all who responded
and if i find out alot more ill post it here

I just got my crafting station last night and it's at 42.89effectiveness. I barely fail at any attempts at combining even the toughest foods. I also noticed that many of my successes aren't good anymore, they're all great now. So higher the number the better.
/agreed..
I use a +40something station and a +14something tool. I love it..
