Thread: CU Mangling Food & Drink?

The "vision" document on the combat upgrade appears to change the HAM and secondary bars all around. In particular, Strength, Quickness, and Focus will no longer exist. This has got to mess up the current balance of food & drink usage. However, nowhere was the effect on the Chef profession acknowledged in the document. I'm not saying the changes will be bad, necessarily, only that the effects on a profession regarded as "already upgraded" has not been recognized.

I'm message-challenged, so I apologize for no link. I found a reference link on the general "core systems" forum.

None of us know how the foods applying to the stats that are gone will be effected. But focus on mind like it is now was always going to be gone when the CU happened, so i'm not totally unprepared for it.

But it will be interesting to see if the mind stats will be buffable at all, if they are then we will have a bigger market than before, as with ents loosing mind buffs, there will be no others apart from spice.

Exactly. We just don't know enough to say, either way, right now.

Another thing to consider is that even if Brandy, Ahrisa and Canape were completely removed, but the other foods and drinks remained relatively similar, we'd still have plenty to sell.

I'd wager that foods like Synthsteak and Exo-protein will be as attractive as ever, if not more, and with Ranged professions getting some more power, accuracy bonuses like Citros Snow Cake will have a big market.

In fact, one positive side effect, if Brandy *is* removed or rendered less important, would be that people might buy other drinks! If the "states" like Intimidate, Stun and Dizzy have similar effects under the new system, then Ithorian Mist and the other state defense drinks will be useful.

Not sure about your server but synth, exo protein wafers, the dodge foods, the def drinks don't sell anywhere near what the others do. Basically the game system forced folks to buy food and drink to participate in mid to high level content. With the changes I'm not sure that will be the case. If it isn't made to where folks have to have them, we will see a large drop in sales.

I actually sell Garmorrl, Ithorian Mist and Deutronium-Pyro as well.....they move very slow right now. I do agree with brandy being removed...assuming it isn't change into something useful then it might let some folks experiment with foods they normally wouldn't use.

Synthsteak is my biggest selling seller, my 3rd being citros.

We're not being totally gimped, especially as blair has only said that ents won't e able to buff mind, he did not say it won't be at all unbuffable.

BoH will be totally useless. It should probably be taken out of the game, with any existing BoH converted to mando wine.

Hopefully garmorrl's weird cap will be fixed when this is released. Either way, if it's bonus and ingredients stay as they are, God only knows how we'll be able to get enough scaley hide and bone to satisfy the increased demand. Just some thoughts the devs might wanna take in (if they haven't already)

But the way I see it, the money people spend on foods and drinks will still be there. The types of things that are in demand may change but people aren't going to ignore the food and drink filling bars altogether.

I would put my sellers in this order:

Ahrisa, Brandy, Canape, Bivoli, Steak, Pie, Vrcupti,Port and Cake, Vegie, Sauce, Citros.

I would lose my top 3 for sure, however they could easially be replaced with 3 new CU ones. I guess it all depends on how much they worked food up. The worst case scenario would be for them to simply remove all the obsolete foods and not bother replacing them with anything. Even then the stomach would be empty for other foods to come into use.

My first thought is on the massive number of existing crates I have stocked across my vendors. I have a wide variety of products, so chances are that some of them will be useful and valuable under the cu. As I wasn't involved with the last chef revamp, is it safe to assume that existing products will not be converted over? Of course schematics may be modified for things moving forward, but product already made -- are they simply destined for someone's museum as a curiosity piece?

None of the old foods were converted over actually. They were just given such a high filling, and all foods back then were short duration, that rendered the prerevamp foods useless. TH saidthey will convert over items and subcomponents were ever possible.I take that as a maybe, but don't count on it. I am guessing that information will be available from beta, so you'll have a week or two noticeat least.

I would be pretty surprised if they didn't convert current foods to the new system. They're supposedly doing it to weapons/stims/buffs/armor etc. I highly doubt they'll let people wander around with double buff vercupti takin their ham to 5k before long/short term doc buffs.

The sales of those I mentioned are pretty healthy, but the other part of my thoughts was this:

One of the aims of the CU is to make combat even harder against high-level mobs. So it stands to reason that players will be looking for an edge even more so. Another thought is, if the CU brings more PVP because it's more balanced and easier to get started (without waiting 20 minutes for buffs etc), that will mean even more use for the PVP-centric foods.
