Thread: What would you choose?

as a carbineer, would yall rather be capped on melee and ranged defenses, or......have +40 defense to blind, +40 to dizzy, +40 to stun, and +65 defense to kd??


I want state defenses but Im gettin torn up with mega damage shots when I go hunting with the state defense version

State defenses if you primairly PvP.


Ranged/Melee if you primarily PvE.

but, are those state defenses high enough to rely on? I can drink mist to get that dizzy to 60...but still, that high enough? Im told state defenses should be in the 80's to be effective

I think all defenses need to be in the 80's or higher for PvP to be effective.....Ranged and Melee Defense can be nice in PvP but only after you get State Defenses.


Think about the odds for a moment.....the State Defense Modifier is like a % (remember there is always a 5% chance to get hit even if mod is over +100). Now take a +60 Defense vs. Dizzy which means you have just better than 50/50 dice roll each time.....and when somebody is firing at you once every second, well it won't take long to have Dizzy and the KD/PD on you

Yeah around 80 at the least to notice a considerable difference.


Are you stacking with anything else? Run the numbers for the total amount of state defenses, and if they're below 60-70, then I'd cap on ranged/melee. Do however know that even in the 50-60 range, state defenses do help. Not terribly much in PvP, but enough to prevent you from being dizzy/KDd in a heartbeat.


What are your current state and ranged/melee defenses as of right now, without the optional boost?

this is with 42 skill pts left, havent taken fencer 4000 or pistols 0040 yet

For me personally it would be ranged/melee defense.. to have them capped can be really useful, even in pvp because some of the most dargerous professions (Pikeman, Swordsman, Rifleman at point blank,...) have quite low accuracy... when they're blinded it's divine.

State defenses may be more useful in general in pvp, but when you compare 40 - 60 state defense with capped meele/ranged defense the choice is obvious for me.

Well I don't think CAPPED melee/ranged defense was an option....but of course having that capped vs. +60 State Defenses would be better

Interesting thread. I have a strange hybrid character that I envisage one day (perhaps a long way off) will be about all I have hoped for with regards to my carbineer.


Firstly, Master Carbineer and BH Carbs up to IV. Got Medic 2/2/4/0 to save my butt when the big hits come through. Working on FS Ranged Speed, Ranged Defence, Ranged Accuracy and Melee Defence in the hope that one day some of these mods will be fixed and start to have an impact on my combat/defence ability. Got the Ranged Mitigations from all the professions such as Marksman, MC etc. though I understand that they dont stack.


Finally, in PvP I pop some high grade aircake and thakatillo for solids. At least I dont get knocked down in general and the dodge increase definitely seems to make a difference though only slightly. If they land a dizzy along with posture down just have to ride it out and not panic...taking some hitswhilst kneelingfrom a melee fighter is preferable to taking them on the ground on your back.


Perhaps would have taken fencer except I live in the vain hope that the FS skill mods will be fixed one day and that somehow my hybrid character will materialise as something a little more formidable...though he does ok now.

yea my choice was either cap melee/ranged, or 0040 pistols worth of state defense
