Thread: New chef
My main character, Griggs, he has been master doctor since 3 weeks after launch, and is also a combat medic. I now have an alt char that has grinded her way up to novice chef and now I am working on that grind. I am not all too familiar with being a chef so I was wondering what you guys like/don't like about being a chef? Seem to me it is an under-valued profession
It's a very cool profession. In my opinion perhaps one of the most "Star Warsy" professions of them all, considering how important Cantinas are in a part of Star Wars. I like the fact that it is a cool profession. However it seems to be ignored and some of our most famous items (Blue Milk, for example) cannot even be made due to oversights.
So, being a Chef is fun, the grind is hard, but worth it... we're just ignored.
Ok, not less then 2 days ago, I mastered Chef. So far, I've gotten most of the required ingrediants to make the majority of things. I just have a few questions (no, I'm not a Holochef either).
1) It says in one of the schematics, I can use a biological component. What are they? If they're looted, off of what?
2) Where should most of my experimentation go? I am uncertain on this, and any input would be greatly appreciated.
3) Does the experimentation on Alchohols and other required additaves to Master Chef foods, have an impact on the final product (as I'm still waiting for the factory run of my alchohols and other needs to finish)?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

1) BEs make the components. There optional but can extend the durations of our foods.
2) This is completly subjective and more based upon the will of the customer. Most customers are more interested in quantitys. But wont buy something because your 50 something off of Chef x. For my guild i experiment in only nutrition and flavor. Mostly for duration because i can always make them more.
3)Yes there are a couple threads on this in the recent pages. The only time experimentation on a component isnt needed is Starshine Suprises. Though veghash in Vegasparine looks like it doesnt matter. But every other component, some of which can take the bio components, need to be experimented.
1) Biological component slots can be filled by tissues made by Bio Engineers. The most common one you're likely to come across is the "Micro nutrient supplement" (it has easy resources for the BE to get), which adds a percentage to the duration. So if you put a 15% supplement into a soypro, then used that in a correlian Fried Icecream that normally has a 300s duration, it would come out 345s. There's an advanced version of that (maxes at 60% IIRC), along with tissues that add to the buff sizes. Food tissues aren't seen much, because we need them in such large quantities for them to really be useful, and the required components are a little hard to com by.
2) I've found that most customers are interested in buff size first (increased by experimenting Nutrition), stack size second (increased by experimenting Quantity), and then duration (Flavor & Texture). Also, a few recipes don't respond well to F&T experimentation, so for those I don't waste any points in that category. For a new schematic (or just something I haven't done in a while) I'll experiment one point in F&T, and if the percentage and/or duration time doesn't go up noticeably, I ignore it. I put 6-7 points into Nutrition, 3-4 into Quantity.
3) Component experimentation does make a difference in the final product, but it can be hard to notice with the variation brought in by experimenting the final product. If you use the same raw resources and no experimentation, the stats of the final food come out identical with identical success types (good, great, amazing, etc). I've used that fact to see that experimenting a category on a component does give you better stats in that category than if you hadn't. So a soypro with lots of experimentation in Nutrition gives you a better buff to start with when it's used in Corellian Icecream. The experimental percentages remain the same (I think those are based solely on the raw resources and the success type), but the numbers are better.
3.5) For Starshine used as Sunburn components completely ignore the above. I haven't been able to see any difference in my final Sunburns comparing ones made with crappy Starshines and ones made with near-perfect ones. I think Vegeparsine works the same way with Veghash components, but haven't done as much testing. I suspect there's a bug adding in bonuses when the "components" are actual food items on their own.
Thank you for your quick and kind responses, and not flaming me ![]()
I just got done reading sciguyCO's re-vamp (I think it was yours?) of the FAQ, and actually, learned quite a bit. I didn't realize that there was higher level alchohols and what not. Thank you everybody who took the time to post so far, and any further advice is greatly appreciated.

I just made Master Chef, and I didn't know about the upcoming changes in the next few months. To be honest, I'm quite excited with the upcoming changes. Hopefully everything isn't borked beyond belief when it gets pushed through though.
On a side note, started my first factory run of dough, alchohol and what not. Hoping my first run of food wont be too bad, and not too far below par for the server I'm on.

I believe your on the Corbantis server. Send me ingame tell/mail and I'll help you anyway that I can. I've got the Coffee and Donut shops around the galaxyand have been Chef since day one. Always glad to help another Chef out and to answer any questions or to compare stats.
As far as experimentation goes, I always go for buff size first then if I have anymore pts left.. . I throw them into duration. Some foods like the Vercupti or Glucose.. I have to throw in a quanity experiment or two just to get to 3 or 4 uses. All the drinks use aludium or a gin and the uses come out at 6 or higher on my stuff.
