Thread: THIS AIN'T OVER!
THIS AIN'T OVER!
I still don't here Yarna D'al Gargan doing any singing! Do you?
Well, it might be over for this publish. Except for a few bugs and minor tweaks, what we have no is going to live. But that is not the end of it!
I have been talking with the developers. The test center is filled with great people who are great at testing bugs and are all really nice and really helpful. Which means that it is not the best place for balance. It is not as competitive there as it is on the live servers. The people on test center play to be helpful, not play to win.
Once this hits live, there still may be more tweaking to be done on the foods. (Developers say may, I say will.) But they won't know that until the foods hit live and see how they work in a real competitive environment.
I know some of the numbers are on the low side. And the thing that makes me feel better is the developers know this too. Ok, they are telling me the numbers are on the cautious side.
Ideally, the developers will get this right on the first try. But they are human and they got a lot of numbers to play with and players are unpredictable. So let me ask you this: which would you prefer? Would you prefer that they send really powerful buffs to the live servers and discover they are too powerful and tweak them down? Or would you prefer that they send us buffs that are weaker to the live servers and tweak them up, making them more powerful? It is human nature that we will throw a hissy-fit if they nerf stuff later. So better to start low and raise up later.
This is the developers' intention. This is what they are planning. And they will be watching. I don't know about you but this gives me a good feeling about the upcoming publish. Again, I would rather they get it right the first time, but that is difficult. If they follow through on their intentions to tweak us soon after we hit live, then I am satisified.
Thanks for your hard work SirVimes!
I'm excited about the update! ![]()
I know you are in a hard position as a go-between, and I'd prefer to tell the devs in person how little faith I have in them any more.
Any tweaks that need doing will probably take months to even be discussed never mind patched in :/
Remember, I am not a paid employee of SOE, this is me speaking as a paying customer.
I have more faith in them now than I used to. Different people are now in charge of the process, and they even have new processes up.
However, letting this patch go live with an almost toal dependance on additives that use rare meat is so ridiculous it's almost funny. I actually have more fish than domesticated meat....
I suppose we will have to wait for the publish & see, but any errors will almost certainly not be fixed in hotfixes, unless they decide we're too powerful, so it will be at least 6 weeks for any changes.
(edited because the damned forum decided enter was submit)

The next month is going to be very rough, I completely agree with that. It would be very rough no matter what we do as we educate our customers.
What customers
Some items do seem nice, but it does look like we are going to have to rely heavily on BE's, and there arent a lot of those about, and less that are willing to make the quantities we need.
People complain at our prices now, god only knows what they'll say when the prices double for a similar level buff as now

I have ZERO faith in anything that SOE does. Give me one reason to have faith? They can not do anything in moderation. (KD timer is a good example 30 seconds then 5 seconds) Whatdo I have to base my faith on. They have not spoken one word to US, thechef community, this entire time (TH courtesy post does not count). You have done a great job SV, but a major class changing revamp needs the direct attension of the devs in charge aswell... We get pumped up that they are going to fix chef, when in reality they are going to all but kill us and upset our customres with this patch. Faith in what,,, that they are going to relook at us after they have "fixed" *cough* NERF *cough* us? Faith that they are going to relook at chef while they are in the middle of all of the other changes and "fixes" to all of the rest of the professions in the game?It took them 4 months to make food work the first time. This looks like a one shot deal to me, and we are getting a dud.

And we got it. They have been paying attention. The problem is that how do you balance these numbers to fit in with the live servers? The only way to do that...put them out live. Do you have another suggestion?

That is what I was afraid of...but got a chance to talk with somebody higher up the food chain than I normally do today, and he told me it wasn't. I believe him.
