You have done a great job SV, but a major class changing revamp needs the direct attension of the devs in charge aswell...
And we got it. They have been paying attention. The problem is that how do you balance these numbers to fit in with the live servers? The only way to do that...put them out live. Do you have another suggestion?
The problem I have is we havent seen all the correspondence taht you do with the devs. I knowthat a chain of command has to exist, butthe only thing any of us see is what you tell us. From what I can tell the devs are sitting staring at there little spreadsheets and letting what you tell them pass through one ear and out the other. They have not opened up a dialog with US nor explained any of the changes or stealth nerfs (vas brandy). The only thing they have changed for the good was lowering the stomach timer. They basicallyhad to do that one because EVERYONE Chef and non Chefs alike would have been upset, plus that idea was purelyignorant to begin with.
Suggestions, They could have ENABLED CHARACTER COPY on the TC. They could have started TC2 before this revamp so they could test this stuff on a "live" server. They could actually play the freaking game as a chef on the live server, and USE the stuff in combat. If any of the devs actually play a Chef I think I will pass out in my chair in disbelief.
Like I said, from what I am seeing they are saying our current buffs weretoo powerful since they are lowering our buffs. So this is a nerf plain and simple, I am not complaining about skill buffs being low, because I do not sell those now.I do not have a baseline to judge from. But I do have a baseline in the HAM buffs, and this is a NERF.
I truely enjoy being a Chef. I like the idea of experimenting/playing around with different combos to make someof the best items on the server for my customers, which helps them out in there battles. I like hunting down the best resources possible, running factories non stop just to keep up with demand. All of this is a challenge. If it was not for Chef I would have dropped both of my accounts by now.
Now the challeng is going to be begging people or paying a rediculous ammount of money for meat and milk resources just to be able to put a few crates of anything up for sale.I will not put items up for sale that are useless to the customer. If I have to use BE enhancers for everything and can not get enough supply of enhancer then I will have to quit. Making garbage is not my style. Also being required to use enhancers to a certain degree takes the pride out of making a great batch of food, because I know that my skill didnt make it good, that bio enhancer is what done it.
Denoby Master of the now pointless profession.
That is what I was afraid of...but got a chance to talk with somebody higher up the food chain than I normally do today, and he told me it wasn't. I believe him.
I sure hope you kept a copy of that conversation cause I think you do a great job here and I hope you are right but with all the BS they have been feeding us so far (decay gone for PVP, Chef revamp not a nerf, Jedi system wouldnt change, Carbine ham costs would get reduced, BH droid Speed would be fixed from it currantly taking longer to update as you gain more skill in using them, and many more) i am unable to have your faith in them or there statments of intention.
I Love my foods and Nikkii does a great job and I have no doubt that she ill make some of the best stuff availble under this new system but i now see little choice but to make one of my Toons a Doctor so i can have good buffs again to my secondarys causethat is obviously not the roll that the Devs see for the chefs anymore.
I guess there is a posiblity that there will be a fix before my currant statsh of pre-nerf foods runs out but i will not by any stretch be holding my breath for this.
Again I hope you are correct and i belive that you where told this as you do a good job but with the willingness we have seen from the devs to decive us (or maybe just make changes for the worse at the last moment over and over take your pick) I just am unable to put any faith in there claims
Food is consumables, big time. If they over did it and later nerfed it, it won't be like pre-nerf probots that are still around or the BE animals. People will eat up the new powerful food and it will disappear. The problem is if they do come out whe a nerfed system and maybe down the road at some point adjust the numbers, the nerf is here earlier than later.
So the question is, do they want a big part of this publish to be considered a accross the board nerf to everyone, since food is usuable by all. It needs to be at least as good as the old stuff. BoH is BoH. If the new stuff isn't as good, it is a nerf. If it is the same, then we are fine. If it is better, everyone is happy. I am guessing they have no idea if it is or isn't better, which is pathetic as the math is very doable. I guess the BE additives through in an unknown varable into the equation, as they could make the food better, but at a higher cost. Still they should know how many animal resources are being harvested and take the numbers from there. It can't be that hard.

Ideally, the developers will get this right on the first try. But they are human and they got a lot of numbers to play with and players are unpredictable.
I'm sorry to have to say this, but there are all kinds of people all around you who have very demanding jobs and still manage to get things done right and done on schedule. In health care, but also in computer software and gaming.
I have, previously, had the opportunity to work with software workers and companies with a similar track record of not getting things done properly the first time, the second time, or the third time as the SWG team at SOE, but unfortunately have had to terminate those contracts because of non-delivery, as there are very few places in this world where such non-delivery is acceptable.

2) A Health/Action/Mind buff food and Con/Stamina/Will buff drink(?) to complement BoH. (psst, Ezran: any new word on the Vercupti rumor?) And we seem to be missing a focus buff in Artisan.
I checked the Vercupti rumor today. No luck yet. Still 400s at about 6-12 min and 50+ filling, with pet restriction.
Also, still no luck with the Caf. Flavor is listed under "Experimental Nutrition" and not "Experimental Flavor"
T'illa T'iil does have Flavor and PE listed in its requirements, even though it only uses Inert gases (DR and OQ only)
What else.....Oh Barrels don't give a modifier.
I checked the different stat buff types, and they haven't changed since yesterday.
Ormachek and T'illa T'iil have Quantity listed until "Misc" instead of "Experimental Quantity" so there is no more experimenting quantity on those items.
The other 2 (Deneelian Fizz Pudding, and Thakitillo) have quantity listed, and can be experimented.
And I'm spending some time on Live, killing nasties and generally having fun with my guild
Domestic meat actually isn't hard to obtain, magwax are all over the place on yavin iv. I had some friends round me up 10k one weekend. Its that in general no one hunts them.
I suppose if the buffs are worth it and the BE's pay 20-50 cpu for it they could obtain more than wecould use. Sounds like the milk is likely to be more of a bottle neck.
One thing still to come is the HAM balance. I know it is horrible for them to nerf one class just because of timing though. I will be very glad if what they have said many times comes true. That stat buffs will not be as necessary or help as much as they do now. Doc buffs make you invincible to all by the highest creatures. Same thing with fishak. Bad timing just made it worse IMO. Chefs finally had found their nitch after 7 months. While there have always been chefs, customers finally got around to actually using food on a regular basis. Many of them saw that while the buffs aren't good compared to a 3k doc buff for 3+ hours, the food was still useful.
I really hope the odd skill buffs do help. Those give chefs a clear advantage over all other buff professions. While they don't seem very godly for stat buffs, I can definatly see some uses. If PvP death is ever taken out, I can see many of the stat buffs being useful to duelers. Mix and match 4-8 foods and drinks and you can have some nice bonuses. No other profession can give that kind of temporary buff.
I'm all for low buffs right now if we have the chance to make our case to the devs that our buffs are too low on live servers. I definately trust you SV as you have done a great job already. ![]()

Yeah....but that is comparing apples and oranges. The problem is tyhat there is no way to predict how these buffs are going to effect things until they are used in a live, competitive environment with thousands of players.
I agree, this specific tuning issue of 25-50 filling cannot be proven right one way or another. However, it is merely the tip of a huge iceberg most of us in the Chef profession have been succesfully been able to work around previously, by concentrating on Fishak, Pate and Sunburns, and generally making our own fun. Now this new tip of the iceberg blocks our way. We might find more ways to make our own fun, but frankly, there is a point where people will start doubting if there might be cheaper, less frustrating ways which require less energy from our part.
