I have noticed that on ahazi everyone is picking up chef as their crafting profession....

I relized that other crafting profession are difficult atm due to ADKs and looted stuff killing off sales. Maybe its selfish of me but I really did like chef not being so popular, so that anyone who became one was in it to make food, instead of money.

Anyone else seen a large influx of chef lately?

Nope.

All the fly by night chefs last no time at all. I have seen a hundred come and go.

I dont even pay attention anymore.

When I was DE this happened all the time. As soon as the realised how long it took to actually make a single droid and how little sales there where they soon disappeared.

Also, most new chefs are starting brand new, too. This means they have little money and resources. Even if they stick to the profession, it will take months and months to get a handle on things and to build up a reasonable supply of resources. Nine out of ten will quit and move on to other things.....chances are the other one will fail due to lack of basic business skills such as reinvesting or just poor people skills. I have seen influxes of chef's on my server too and I even made a similar thread, but if you are a good chef, no need to worry. Keep churning out good product and advertise a little more than usual with treasure boxes in high traffic areas and your trade forums and you will survive.

There isfour kinds of chefs:

1) Those who craft for their guild/friends only

2) Dabblers (They make and sell some food, just never take it very serious)

3) Cash Kiddies (These are the people who /respec their alt chef thinking its a get rich craft. They last a little while, spend the money they make on gear for their mains, then dont want to be bothered with the responsibility anymore and their shop closes)

4) Lifers. These are the chefs with the big retail stores that love the profession. They have been a chef a long time and prolly will be until they quit. Every server has them, and most of them post on these forums.

I think most will quit when they find out how difficult it is to actually get going and establish yourself asa successful chef. There are many easier ways to make money in this game.

I'm #4 for sure.

I started out as #1 and #2 but became more and more engulfed in the crafting world. With all the bugs and hacks in the game, pvp became senseless. And then they killed the good loot so pve is too. Chef has been my passion for a while now until they fix the game.

ditto here, except that i never was one for pvp in the first place. i made an alt to go dancer/chef when they did the chef revamp early last year, mostly to learn about foods and to make my own. i ended up placing so many harvesters that i started selling a bit just to recoup those costs, made my main BE since she was already CH and i wanted to see what that was like, and before i knew it i'd become a "big-time" chef.

i like how you say chef is your passion. i consider myself very lucky that something i picked up pretty much on a whim, just to try it, turned out to be my calling. not everyone has something they love so much, and it's fantastic that i can do most of it solo when not a lot of other folks are on. i just really do feel very very lucky definite lifer here, i did take a long break from selling foods (and after that a break from SWG entirely) but i never did drop the skills, can't imagine that i ever will.

one thing that came as a suprise to me, although it made sense after i thought about it, was that when i'd retired from selling cooking for 2 people (and our alts) seemed harder than cooking for most of the server. volume cooking isn't easy, but i have a system for it and usually have subcomponents ready and waiting, etc. when i cooked only what we needed, and only when we needed it,5 or so crates of something, i had to make all the subcomponents in order and that was just odd, very very different and by that time i'd forgotten what it was like in the early stages.

/salute lifers, even those that take breaks *giggle*.
