Completely, totally happy.
I have to disagree aboutyour "before" commentsthough. Being a Chef was very profitable for me.
Oh I'm sure it was profitable.... I meant in comparison to a big time Weaponsmith or Architect or what not. I think NOW however... chefs have an edge where they could conceviable be the MOST profitable profession in the game.

Personally, I think the revamp was a load of crap.
We got brandy ala new fishak and a bunch of broken crap. Experimentation and resources are meaningless and we got 500000000 new chefs reaming people to make quick credits. And they all can make stuff as good as the old masters with good resource supplies. Anyone that thinks chef had less than 10 items that could sell before patch either wasnt a chef or was a chef that only sold what *they* thought would sell. Anyone that thinks chef wasnt profitable doesnt know what they were talking about either.
Im leaving...and frankly I feel really bad for my customers cause none of the chefs give a crap about them or what they want, just their credits.
I think that the best way to respond to this is by explaining what I have learned:
Whenever SOE informs me thatmy profession/class/race is going to be "revamped," I typically want to see what exactly I am going to be losing. It did not always used to be this way - however my experiences with EverQuest, and now Star Wars Galaxies have conditioned a "learned" response whenever I hear of my profession/class/race getting "revamped." Sure, we have lots of new capabilities - but lets look at the cost.
1. COMMUNITY I agree, Chef's are no longerthe tight knit community of old. Chefs are the (sorry for the pun) Flavor of the Month at this time, and I can guarantee that the Chefs that have chosen to remain are eagerly awaiting Publish 7 - when the amount of Chefs can fluctuate back to appreciable levels. We don't necessarily mind new friendly faces - but there has been problems of immaturity and coexistence between Chefs of the new and the old. Enough said.
2. CRAFTING PROCESS Forget about everything they tell you about Chef buffs being better now than it was before. Let me explain. Before this latest publish, Chefs actually felt like they were "cooking." Kind of makes sense for it's profession, don't you think? We had to slave over finding the best quality ingredients, and it showed in your product. Essentially, you wouldn't see a Chef on his first day outdoing a Master Chef of six months. It just would not happen. Well, that's no longer the case. A holochef - with decent ingredients, but access to high quality Bio Tissues can outperform a Master Chef of six months utilizing the highest caliber ingredients that has access to medium quality Bio Tissues. Where is the common sense in that? I've been beating this drum for awhile -I'll continue to sound itoff. Chef's are too heavily reliant on BioEngineers, and that needs to be fixed. I think that there needs to be a happy medium somewhere. But the way it stands now... they just cheapened the thrill of cooking for us "old tymers." The Chef Publish did more for the BioEngineers than it did for the Chef. And that's the bottom line.
3. PROFITABILITY Almost no change. The big difference is that your access to bringing in a decent income correlates to how well connected you are (read: annoying) to your neighborhood BioEngineer. Low Quality foods don't sell nearly as well. Period. In other words, if you are a Chef - you plan on bringing in enough of an income to sustain your day-to-day playing. However, without access to a BioEngineer - you're kinda stuck spending a majority of your time spamming the major starports with auctions for your foods. (I'll be a dead Zabrak in a Chef hatbefore you catch me doing that)
4. CHEF REQUESTS Whatus "old tymers" hadwanted (I'm trying to give my view of the overall picture) was access to milk (which we got), some Chef clothing (which we got), certification of a Chef knife for roleplaying purposes (I personally requested that - but they said no.. oh well
), elevation of foods when placed in a structure (we are getting that), and the change of graphics (which honestly they did "minor" work in). Everything else... well... it still has the potential to be a big bonus. But the publish obviously needs more work - andI ama Chef that has taken his time to calm down and look at it from a different perspective. You see, SOE plans on "revamping" the combat system next to bring it in line with the Chef foods they have given us. We heard this second hand from our awesome correspondent SirVimes.Until then, there are some good things, but some ugly things as well. The ugly seemingly outweighs the good at this point. But I have faith that in the end things may just right themselves - IF the Developers actually open up a dialogue with the Chef community about this "revamp", and any future "revamps." At least let us know what they are doing, and give us a chance to help them fix obvious problems before we are "stuck" with them.
Am I happy? Gee... happy is a strong word. Cautious seems better.
Tevoo,
I whole-heartedly agree with your second issue. Although, I won't say it makes me unhappy, it is VERY disappointing. I was down for about a week because of that single issue. Why should anyone have more control over a product than I. For me, it is a slightly different perspective yielding the same result. (by the way... shouldn't it be old-thymers /smile) In terms of raw numbers, using V Brandy as an example. I believe my initial mix came out around +160. Putting everything I have into nutrition and maxxing the bar, I can raise this to +214. A raw increase of just over 30 percent. Now... add a tissue to this, and it becomes... +430????? I understand the need to have a rare/hard component give a benefit. However, this is reversed, in my opinion.

There is a chance that it will be on the test center next week...but that is not reliable information and I have no idea when it will hit live.
Right, that was more what I was looking for. I knew it was one of the new features to be included in Publish 7, but I wasn't sure when TC was going to be getting some of those. I really doubt this would be something they'd push to live without being on TC for a while.
In general, it FEELS like I have to work more in-game time to generate the approximately same profit margin as I did pre-patch.
I'd say about 2x the previous time. For me, it takes away from some of the enjoyment I experience playing a second account.
There is a large potential though to educate your customers and cater to their individual needs better and not just be a vanilla run of the mill chef to them, even if you produced high end goods before. The hard part though is communication all of this to your customer base, as it takes a long time to do it right. I still have yet to really explain everything to everybody, and as a result of many of my explainations thus far, I actually have generated even more questions from folks I did not sell to previously.
Are Chef's happy now? I think I am. Still have some time though as I am discouraged by food stacks and duration compared to drinks and I can't justify some BE prices based on uses and duration for many BE foods.
