Thread: Curiousity question... are Chef's happy now?
Misterie,
You and I are in agreement. If perhapsthere was something that Chefs created which caused an awesome modifier (ie. give us more control of our own destiny), then I could be content with this publish. Lets take your example of V. Brandy. Suppose we created an alcohol with the best resources with a very good Decay Resistance. Now lets say that with this good resource alcohol with high Decay Resistance, you as a Chef allow it to age over a period of time (kinda like cheese over three or four days). The higher the Decay Resistance, the higher the chances, and the faster your alcohol turns into specialty alcohols (remember aludium pu36's?). The lower your Decay resistance, the lower the grade of alcohol/slower to age. And - ok - we can toss the BioEngineers a bone here. Allow their tissues to increase the time it takes for alcohols / components to "age." I mean... this is cooking after all. Isnt' it? With these specialty Chef created components being used "optionally" (with minor BioEngineer help)I would feel comfortable with the differences in statistics . But that's this "old thymer's" opinion ![]()

That might work SirVimes. I have now changed my attitude from cautious to cautiously optimistic ![]()
Personally....I am cautiously curious.
I have seen numbers written down on paper, but we will have to see how it feels before we can judge it. It does mean that the stats of the resources will be more important..also means that if we don't have very stats we could be in trouble.
Um, does that mean next week on Live (panic!), next week on TC (better dust off Patot), or next week they're starting internal testing?

Next week they are re-doing the crafting system. Not just for chefs, but for everybody. The
resources will be a lot more important than they are now. Might bring things closer to what you want.

ACK!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a complete slip...and not even a fruedian slip! I meant to say next patch!
There is a chance that it will be on the test center next week...but that is not reliable information and I have no idea when it will hit live.
Sorry about that.
I simply stopped playing. I loved to be a Master Chef, spent hours and millions of credits getting the best resources to make the best foods and my customers loved that. Now chefs are just factory runners who makes shcematics using things created by another class. Is this a chef? Think not.
Curiosity question... (mostly for the old thymers)
If you were to pit a new Chef utilizing the most recent foods, methods to make new foods, etc. against an "old thymer" Chef with their pre-publish foods, and their methods to make their foods...
1. Who would make more profit?
2. Who would have more fun?
/sigh
I haven't even had time to try out the new foods...ended up dropping master dancer to pick up master BE...its the only way I could justify making foods of decent quality, where Ifelt I was still in control of the food process. (BTW BE is quite fun...though there are so many facets to it...creatures, tissues, pet stims, food enhancements that I imagine many BEs end up specializing in something).
So...during this break from cheffing (to ultimately make quality food) I'm sure I've lost most of my hard-won customer base.
The resources (even with the new changes) are a huge PITA...devs have said that they don't expect seafood and milk to beused in large volumes...well, how am i supposed to do decent factory runs with only 1k of mollusk, when I need 10 mollusk per item?!
People do not wish to buy individual items...they want crates, and usually crates of 25. Therefore, I could see how BE is going to profit hugely on business from chefs, if they can stand to gather the resources in the first place. The only way to get these resources in large quantities and to keep up with demandis to work pretty much 24/7.
Overall (without experimenting much with the new foods yet) I think the revamp can be turned into a positive thing...publish 7 will help immensely. As for chef being "Flavor of the month"...it is currently but many will not have the patience to do it right, or to help their customers find which foods work for them. They will just sell vasarian brandy all the time.
My 0.02 credits...
OK so I made Master Chef about 3 weeks before the patch so I'm not sure how "reliable" my opinion is
but here goes:
After making master I made several crates of Fishkak, advertised on my serverforum, and got very little traffic (of course I'm in a small town with no shuttleport so that's fine).
Post patch, just because of all the attention given to it, I had a ton more traffic; and I had people buying everything, not just brandy (aka "new fishkak") ... I went into Theed and did exactly 3 "/announce"-ments about having the Brandy on my vendor, and I got at least one new customer, who brought with her three or four other folks that all wanted Brandy, so that has really increased sales; but even so I'm getting all kind of sales from people (even in my own PA) that never bought food before.
I can definitely understand the concerns of some of the "old-thymers" with regards to not "needing" master to make high-quality stuff (I have no master-level food that is a best seller) and I think that the master-level foods need some tweaking still. And, I suspect that Brandy might lose its popularity depending on how the next publish changes the combat system.
But just from the simple variety added by the patch I am overjoyed, and I finally feel like I'm really roleplaying... at least in the sense that I can come up with goofy descriptions for my foods that make them really feel different, mix and match with different foods for "meals", etc.
I looked over my "classic" food vendor this morning, which has all my old stuff on huge reduction, and as I was scrolling through the foods (Ihave 1 or 2 of a lot of the foods, common and uncommon) and I realize how little variety there really was in the old foods, other than offering different buffs.
When I look through the new foods I see so many different uses for different professions, and that's why I'm seeing so many customers, not just because of the Brandy.
And, yes, I'm taking full advantage of Brandy + BE components to make as much money as I can at the moment (without overcharging too much I hope) but I'm also not one of those holochefs standing in Theed spamming advertisements all day (as I said, doing it 3 times over a period of 5 minutes was more than enough for me).
