Okay folks...

Looks like at the end of August, I'll be Austin Bound with every other Correspondent who can go, to sit down with the folks at SOE to talk about the myriad of aspects of Profession Balance and Role.

We've already got alot on our plate, what with over a years worth of experiance, data, and community concerns.

I just wanted to let you know that we really are getting alot of support from the Devs, and this is just one of the ways it's comeing.

As always I won't let you guys down.

will they be providing the transportation to austin or do you have to pay for it? And could you post what YOU plan on bringing up at the summit.

P.S. who won the duel between youand Fury?

That's very positive news. I think working with them in person will be very productive. Should be a great experience.

Ruehs, we haven't dueled yet and I forgot what it was about... I just remmeber it had nothing to do with being Fencer.... it might have been the Hawtpants thing.

Anyway yes transportation is being provided by SOE. I haven't found out if I can ride my motorcycle in lieu of flying yet (I could ride out there and backfor whatever ammount they would spend on myair fare.)

Basically we've got an ever growing list of minor and major changes that could be implimented, I suspect we will find out the scope of possibility, and identify key possible major changes.

Within that all the correspondents are working on overall changes (such as how HAM, Damage, Resistance, and avoidance interact with Accuracy) Or in otherwords we've got suggestions that are entire changes to the combat system from the ground up, and we've got changes that are modifications of the current one.

All of the correspondents are responcible for makeing sure that each profession is defined. And in light of the other professions I've started attempting to define where we should be.

Of course I'll present the basic idea of what I've thought of in a new thread to get your input. Look for Revamp Fencer Role.

I think it's great that they're actually going to be sitting down with the correspondants and finding out what each profession wants to see out of the balance. When I was at Fan Fest it was pretty similar to this and I think that it left both the devs and the people satisfied at the end. The devs were very open to new ideas and really were interested in what we had to say. Hopefully your meeting with the devs will go well . Oh, you are going to fill us in on EVERYTHING afterwards, right?

Everything that I won't get kicked out of the position for revealing.

Fact is we are privy to ALOT of potential and eventual changes that... well quite frankly are best left discoved on your own.

Sure there are some things we aren't made aware of, but for the most part those things are the things that would likely ruin our own gameplay as players.

But specifically there will be alot of vaguarities and alot of potentialities from that meeting... nothing will likely get set in stone enough to disseminate to everyone, but we'll be sure to get enough quotables to satisfy.

I'll be sure to attempt to get them drunk enough to loosen their lips a bit.

Hey MInerunner I really doubt that they would do this but the DEVS ever thought about inviting a few palyers like 5 or so from each profession down to this etc. The reason I ask is cause I live in Dallas, TX and that is only a 3 hour drive from Austin, TX and since Law School doesn't start up again till the end of August for me I'm sorta twiddling my thumbs atm. Also for any reason, way shape or form you are unable to attend I"d volunteer to take your place since if anything came up I'm just a short drive away from Austin

Anyway best of luck to you at the meeting I know you'll do us and the entire SWG community proud

Id kill to be able to sit dwon and listen/chat with the devs at that meeting.

Soon as someone says 'NERF THAT' then I can slap combat logs down and say, NOPE NERF THAT! lol.

Keep us posted mine, maybe we will get some information about the up-coming revamps, even though fencer is probaly the LEAST broken profession of all of them... in reality.

Well I doubt something will come up unless the Airport thinks I'm a terrorist or something silly like that.

And there are already 30something Correspondents going... it's gonna take alot of maturity to keep 30 people from talking over eachother let alone a hundred and something.

But it wouldn't be supprizing to find out that if this actually does accomplish alot of good things, that it wouldn't be a one time thing.

Safe travels Minerunner. I just recently Mastered Fencer, and one idea I had after seeing Jedi, after Jedi after Jedi force run away from a fair fight, or use it to kite, is pherhaps a a leg or tendon slashing special that woukd reduce force run for a time?

Thanks for fighting the good fight for us.

As some of you may or may not know, SOE collected almost every correspondant down to Austin last Thursday for a big face-to-face discussion on the initial design for the combat revamp.

Let me emphasize that: the initial design for the combatrevamp. The devs are commited to adjusting systems based on player feedback (correspondants and everyone else). We spent all day Friday going over the starting points for practically every game system that touches combat. We continually picked the brains of the devs focused on the combat revamp, the dev manager, TH, and random SOE employees we ambushed in the halls. We let them know what we thought about everything, and will continue to do so as we hack at the rough drafts of the design docs (which will be made viewable for public discussion in the near future).

The details are still a bit hush-hush, but I wanted to let you know what I can:

  1. Combat will be changing. A lot. Tactics will need to be adjusted, equipment re-evaluated, and templates possibly changed. And IMO the changes will make for a better game.

  2. Chef foods will still have a market. Period. I don't see the profitability of chefs lessening with the new systems. The list of "must have" foods will very likely be changing, though, although to what degree still needs to be looked at. And the "must have"-ness may decrease, but that would just allow customers to dabble in a larger variety of foods.

  3. I do have a few concerns regarding how some of the changes will effect chefs.

    • I'll be watching the details on the buff and HAM systems to make sure that food has a use, and that our stat buffs have some benefits compared to doc buffs, entertainer buffs, and spices (along with some tradeoffs).

    • I (along with the scout and ranger corres) will also watch to see how the combat changes affect PvE and creature resource harvesting.

  4. And in case I forgot to mention it: combat will be changing!

That pretty much sums up what I can make public right now. Feel free to respond with concerns/wishes you want to put on the table.

Sounds cool. I really hope they make some of the other food more useful, but it also means i'll have to keep a look of for more resources
