Thread: Pricing feedback requested
I think billing by charge is easier, as the customer doesn't care if it took the same number of resources to make a 4 charge Ormachek, or an 8 charge one. They see themselves as getting half as much for the same price. They also *shouldn't* really care what it takes to make. If it's a real economy, supply and demand should create an equilibrium on pricing. Sub populations on the servers will have their own pricing schemes, resource usage is just as fair as charges if the people want to pay that way. I personally prefer counting up the numbers and multiplying by a number. Also, my repeat customers I usually figure out that number and go down to the next lowest round number that makes me feel comfortable. This listing is just a guideline.
. ingredient quantity
. ingredient rarity
. ingredient harvestability (can they be gathered with harvester, or do they have to be salvaged by a scout)
. does it require factory matched subcomponents?
. going market price (server-wide average and in the location where I'm selling)
. demand (server-wide average and in the location where I'm selling)
. strength of the buffs
. duration of the buffs
. number of doeses
Market price and number of doses are probably the 2 largest components I use when determining price. In the absence of a good market price comparison, I use strength/duration of the buffs and ingredient cost. Demand is the main factor in determining what I make (if it has a good profit margin, but I can't sell it but once a week; I don't make it). Then it comes down to makret price vs materials cost.

I like these... recently I've started charging minimum 5cr per component... and up depending on how many in the stack.. ie. a stack of 4 = costs 5cr per component needed to create it... a stack of 5 = 6cr, a stack of 6 8cr...
Prices did get high a bit fast.. but I did notice all my auctions gone in approx 2-3 days... And no mail with any negitive feedback.
At least on bloodfin there is VERY few food items up on the bizaar. I've been posting mostly veghas and ormichek (sp)... I won't post anything less then a stack of 4... and the prize stacks of 7-8 I charge sometimes 10cr a unit... I feel as if It's worth it... since it takes less space... a friend keeps telling me to charge MORE too...
Dom Arts f&d for ~300 the whole stack, most chef stuff for 300 per use, master items 400 per use. I try to get stack size to at least 3 or 4 at it increases my gain, but if stacksize experimentation fails I have no scruples to sell it anyway (it doesn't matter with a "per use" pricing scheme). Bazaar is usually an additional 50 cr per use.
It might get lower for crates once factories work for stacksize and I don't have to worry about assembling failures.
Right now since I"m not mass producing anything I just charge per resource, plus a little for profit... i.e. I figure a "cost" of 4 credits per resource to make, then bump it up a little depending on the rarity of the resource (i.e. a lot more for jawa beer just because wooly hides).
My cost tend to be something like
air cake 125credits
"bantha beer" (jawa beer) 300 credits.
I think maybe I should figure out something more along the "per charge" line but at this point I guess I'm not focusing too much on the economics, since I'm trying to tend bar. It's hard enough just to get folks to buy stuff sometimes. ![]()

Yes, I know every server is different. I know even players within a given server are very different. However, I want the opinions of Chefs on this set of prices.

Feedback/dialog would be most welcome. Flames aren't even too bad, just make 'em literate! I hate poorly written hate mail (This means you Sir Vimes! (Okay, just kidding, Vimes has never sent me a hate mail. But a moose once bit my sister. It's true.))
PS: I updated the info on the chef item listing with more realistic results.

Your chart doesn't count resources for components in the final count... e.g. Air Cake should probably show up as 6 flora + 10 wheat + 8 fruit == 24, not 8. Well, if you are trying to do cr/resource calcs anyway. So on our server resources are going for something like 5cr/unit for good stuff so e.g. again with Air Cake I think I'd be tempted to put the floor at 24 * 5 == 120 per charge.
By the way, looking at that chart makes it obvious that Sunburns were intended to be +160ish not +1600ish... better get what you can for them now folks ![]()
Nice chart overall, however I think when you factor the costs of identical components the price of the factory run needs to be calculated. Otherwise you are undermining your profit margins and doing more work for less credits.
Not bad on the pricing... I charge about 5cr per resource (since many high-quality resources are 3 and 4cr per) ... and on the harder to make items I charge a tad more for labor.
I haven't heard any complaints yet.
