Thread: List, descriptions and whatnot of bad chef foods.

I posted this in the list of bugs thread, but since I took an hour on it, I might as well post a new thread since I figure it's moderately interesting.

I've been a chef for a few weeks now, and I've noticed a few things. Now that the old chef foods are gone, I'll obviously be talking about the new. I'll try not to mention everything that's been done to death such as the food bar not emptying on death, etc etc.

1) There's not nearly enough new models, and many of the new models that were made for the revamp were attached to some, bluntly put, crappy foods. You know who's going to use Kanali Wafers? That's right, no one. Too many foods use the "pecan swirls on a red platter" model, or the "orange and white calzone pastry", and it pretty much just looks cheap and lazy.

2) Many foods... have, ah, "problems" with them. They suck, you see. There's just reasons why they'll probably never be sold, which I will go through the list and put here.

Aitha - 20 water, 14 meat, 1 container. Uses a ton of resources for a relatively low end mind heal.

Carmelized Pkneb - Uses 40 creature food for a bonus to DANCING Wound Healing. 20 meat, 20 bone. High resource cost for a laughable bonus.

Jawa Beer - 10 cereal, 15 wooly hide, 1 drink container. Wooly hide is worth it's weight in gold so it would most likely never be used in a drink that gives mask scent bonus.

Kanali Wafer - 20 hide, 20 fruit, 1 carbosyrup. Creature food, 20 fruits and a subcomponent for +45ish constitution. HORRIBLE resource cost for something no one will ever use. And they even used a new, nice model on this food too.

Teltier Noodles - 20 hide, 20 vegetables, 1 dough. Almost the same exact thing as Kanali wafers, except it keeps its old model. Horrible resource cost, only +45 stamina.

Correlian Brandy - 20 Corellian Fruit and 20 Corellian Berries, alcohol, drink container. Gives +7-14ish Knockdown Defense. The resources are relatively obscure and rather high.

Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud - 30 Radioactive, 30 Neutronium steel, 10 fruit, 4 ident. alcohol, drink container. Uses a LOT of resources and this food will be either "ok" if you use no additives and "good" if you use heavy additives. I'd reccomend giving a +20% bonus to the initial Melee Defense bonus.

T'illa T'ill - 30 Hurlothrombic Gas, 30 Methanagen Gas, 30 Hydron-3 Gas, 2 Ident. Alcohol, 1 Drink Container. When me and my buddy went around waiting for these gasses to spawn in and get the materials for this drink, we made it (pre-patch) and... we were disappointed. We were hoping it would become better after patch. It's still terrible. It uses BEYOND obscure resources, and drink containers do not multiply the amount of drink you get. It's always 1 serving of it. It's filling anywhere from 90-60% for your 'liquid stomach', and reduces the amount of food in your stomach from 11-19%. Considering you'll have to be lucky as hell to get GOOD stats on those 3 obscure gasses that rarely shift in, you're most likely going to get 80% filling, 15% 'solid' food reduction anyway. As it stands for T'illa T'ill, for 110 resources, you get 1use of a drink that does more harm than good. This needs to be addressed.

Bantha Butter - I know it's a component, but even if you squint your eyes and turn your head sideways, there's no way in hell that brown lump will resemble any type of butter.

Chandad - 15 wheat, 15 water, 5 fruit, 5 rice. It either does nothing or has very very little effect. If this actually increased the range on your surveying tools (if high enough) or made a big difference in the resources you pulled up surveying, it would be a big seller. As it stands now, it's very forgettable.

Dweezl - 1 dough, 20 berries, 20 tubers, 10 fruits. I hate you, Dweezl. It uses the uglyorange and white calzone model, costs 60 resources and gives bonuses to trapping. BONUSES TO TRAPPING. Trapping is never used (except for hologrinders) and consequently, this will never be made. Ever.

Gorrnar - 30 berries, 20 oats, 1 carbosyrup, 1 dough. Although I'm a TKA and wounds aren't a big deal for me, the bonus for this food is so small, especially for the resource cost, I would most likely FORGET to eat it before I died because the bonus is so forgettable and pitiful.

Cho-Nor-Hoola - 20 milk, 20 bone, 1 protato. Everyone knows that Combat Medics are really wiping up in PvP. When I saw that Cho-Nor-Hoola granted poison and disease resistance, I thought, "Hey, this might be useful". I have now concluded that it is "trash". It uses 40 creature resources, which are obviously much more limited to get than stuff that comes from ground, and THEN you have to put 20 vegetables and 5 organic into it. What's the bonus? +17ish disease/poison resist if you put some good resources in it. You know what many combat medic poisons and diseases are? 130% potentcy. This food DOES NOTHING against them. Even if CM poisons were 100% potency and this food reduced it by 20%, it would still do almost nothing vs. combat medics. Since Cho-Nor-Hoola is the only defense against them in PVP, something needs to be done to either side.

Karkan Ribenes - 1 soypro, 35 organic, 15 wood. That's a lot of resources for something only one race can use with a relatively minor effect.

Ahrisa - Gruuvan Shaal- Scrimpi - 50-60assorted organic resources. These foods have the potential to be "foods that people will ask for", but as it stands, they're a bit too filling, and the BE additives do very little to that. If they were reduced by 10-30%, they'd be great foods.

Terrata - 20 leathery hide, 20 herbivore meat, 1 bantha butter, 20 milk. Nice, new model on a food that will probably never be made. HORRIBLE costs- 70ish creature food that requires a scout to get for an absolutely terrible bonus, CAMOFLAGE. No one uses camoflage as there are very few rangers in the game, not to mention that camoflage itself isa pretty sub-par skill. Completely forgettable and disappointing food.

Deneelian Fizz Pudding - 4 ident. carbosyrup, 10 milk, 20 bone, 20 leathery hide. Aside from the dodge bonus being broken (as with all dodge bonus foods), this food is apparantly only 1 serving for 24 flora food and 50 creature food. The bonus, when it's fixed, will be nice for intense (but short) battles, but as for now, it's useless.

Excellent post. Agreed on a lot of them... Pkneb - I don't even make this for my dancer character, and she could use it not being master; T'illa T'ill - a joke, pre-patch and now; Terrata - laughable at best unless you're a ranger/chef maybe and can whip it up in the field (hah!). Ribenes should have the trandoshan-only requirement nixed (I've seen some chefs advertising this as if it's not trando-only, real classy). Butter needs to use less milk, or no milk, to be reasonable as a comp. Cho-Nor-Hoola I make with milk/bone scraps and give away to pvpers to test; the unanimous opinion is that it's worthless against things that actually disease/poison, they're better off with (when fixed) defense mods or Canape. I tend to think Jaar, and the burst-run foods are silly too.

But I think Aitha/Ahrisa/Corellian Brandy (cheap alternatives to more resource intense items, especially Corellian Brandy in casks compared to 1-stack Thakitillo), Thundercloud, and even Pudding, have uses... I've been keeping them in stock, and up til the past week had good sales with all of them.

It still feels to me that they got half finished with the overhaul and then just slapped effects on the other half, not taking time to consider the visual or the logic of the resources.

I use kanali wafers since I "require 11 more constitution to wear this armor". It's good enough and not very filling, since I dump all my points into filling/duration. I only take one charge of course.

I think for selective uses like that the other 'small buff' dom arts foods can be useful.

I've never tested them, but I would imagine the BurstRun HAM reduction foods are pretty useless. Maybe you listed that and I overlooked it.

Chandad is anything but worthless.

Lets me use 126m range at survey 1, saving me the skill points I would otherwise need for other uses. As a master chef/master weaponsmith/swordsman I need all the skill points I can get.

I would assume this also works to bump from survey 2 to survey 3 or survey 3 to survey 4 range.

Is that with additive? Last time I checked, it only did ~+10 Surveying, which isn't enough to go from Survey 1 to Survey 2 (You need 20)

+10ish is enough to get you 126m range though. I used it in the same situation. Also, after the bonus goes away your tool's range stays at 126m... more than likely a bug.

garrmarl is pretty useless until they fix the resource stats. since hide/bone has no PE or Flavor, they are substituted with a rating of 1. any required resource that does not inclue a particular rated stat should register as 750. 500 is too low, and 1000 is too high. the best idea on garrmarl right now is to use a filling enhancer and try to get it down to 33% so you can triple dip. that would give you between 600-700 boost to all health stats.

I so agree with this post but then again there are flaws in every crafting profesion.

There are things that people never bother tpmake or there is things people never buy.

Chef was just changed totaly around and there are many great foods. Sure there are bad foods so don't waste your time on them and concentrate on the ones worth your time.

We have blue milk (completely redundant item), vagnerian foc/will [food], brandy m/foc/will for mind stats;

We have Accarragm [drink](great item imo) for a/q/sta;

Then we have these seemingly incomplete, near the mark, almost, but not quite worth while making, foods:

Kiwik Clusjo for q/sta

Won Won for str/con

And finally thefoods that make you wonder if someone ran out of ideas and needed some fillers (forgive the pun):

Ahrisa for focus (entirely redundant)

Gruuvan for str

scrimpi for quick

Seriously who will ever make any of these last 3 except for a nice vendor showcase window?

At the same time I see people queueing up (yeah single file lines 10 deep) for Doc for 15k a pop in coronet.

I had become doc so I wouldnt have to stand on lines or wait for wound healing

I became chef so that I wouldnt have to stand on lines or wait for buffs

For hardcore pvp you might need 3k+ hp in all stats but for the average player somemodest food/drink ham combos would be a refreshing addition to the game.

Atm I can make 2 of the 3 items I consider the best chef items: brandy, accarragm and garrmorl.

I consider garrmorl to be comletely dependant on ingredients that make it impossible as a consideration for consumption and marketability. So you can trash that one as far as I'm concerned.

Leaving aside for the moment the snowcake, thaktillo, veghash, granlinyn, synthesteak, which are all good practical items I'm still left with the feeling that chef is not what I envisioned embarking on it.

Keep the casks, keep the barrels, keep the plates, trenchers and troughs. I'd like to see an item that can modestly boost my stats evenly and practically so that I can survive in the wild w/out joining the buff parade in coronet every 2 hours.
