Never sell in singles. Couldn't ither. I never sell crates broken below 10, unless it's a personal order or whatnot.

I could not make a living selling singles. IT accounts for a fraction of a fraction of my total sales.
If this were the the only way I sould sell I would probably take down my vendor and cry. I wouldn't surrender chef though since I have a Bartender set up in a cantina and wouldn't want to just up and leave. Though my fed-up factor might be enough for me to cancel my subscription, I can feel myself slowly inching closer to this decision and I thought this revamp would take me back a few steps.

anyone else get the feeling we couldn't live without crates? (the more stack size the better). Let's hope the DEVs see that 50 stack in acratewould be beautiful

I sell both singles and crates on my vendor. The singles are taken from those odd-sized crates at the end of a factory run.
I would estimate at least 95% of my business comes from the crates. The only people who buy singles are newbies who can't afford to buy in quantity, occasional eaters such as dancers or surveyors, or people who want to try out a new food before committing to a bulk purchase.
If crates were eliminated and people had to buy food in stacks, there's no way we'd sell as much as we do. Inventory space is critical for just about everyone, as others have pointed out. If it wasn't, you wouldn't see ladies wearing backpacks with their evening gowns. There's only so much space to carry food, and if it was in stacks, people would be able to carry less than 10% the amount of food they could in crates. They'd have to ration it in battle, and would end up buying far, far less of it.

With the upcoming limits on vendor inventory, we'd be able to carry less than one-tenth the food for sale we did before. This means either being on 24/7 to restock, or doing a lot less volume.
So while it may be possible to turn a profit selling singles, I am not sure said profit would be worth the time invested. Crafters already make far less of a "living" for the same amount of work as combat mission types do.

I would not be able to make much of a living without crates. Most people want crates because of the space singles take up in inventories. I carry 3 or 4 cates of Fishak around and sell them easily for 60-80K, singles would be a nightmare for production and distribution!!!
