Lower level foods don't fill as much, so you can use more variety.

*But*

Lower level foods don't last as long, so that variety is offset with short duration.

Oh...wait...balance

Nevermind

I can't give out numbers, but all buffs that have timers, the times have been increased significantly.

Ok, I am backing off a bit because I am defending this too much. I am just so excited about all of this...

....anyway, I talked to the dancers and they agreed that the dance buff will not be useful. I got a whole bunch of quotes and sent them off to GM. We will need to see what happens.

Anyway, I think that the chef buffs to Fatigue healing would be most useful to entertainer professions, since there's no craftable way to add to that skill. Even at high levels, the mind wounds get taken care of much faster than fatigue, and people tend to let BF get higher than wounds anyway.

But here's what I think would be an excellent seller to Master Musicians and Dancers: "+Mind Enhancement" skill mods. This skill is what determines the percentage boost to Mind or Focus/Willpower when you get a buff from one of these professions. I'm imagining a Master or near-Master food/drink that adds +20 to one or both of the Enhancement skills or so for 8 to 10 minutes (the standard time needed for a Musician/Dancer buff). That's another 20% added on top of the performer's buff. "Combat Entertainers" who go out hunting with PA members could pop one of these, perform for the group in a camp and everyone benefits. Or combat professions could buy them and offer a stack to a performer they're purchasing a buff from.

How 'bout a drink that does the same thing to the cost stats? (Strength, Quickness & Focus all at once). I think if I could get both those, I'll have died and gone to buff heaven.

I'm not sure if this was a deliberate pun, or just a coincidence. You haven't seen "Breath of Heaven"? +400 or so to Strength, Quickness, Focus for8 or9 minutes. And I really hope they keep our current best sellers (BoH, Angerian Fishak, Bivoli, Sunburn) somewhat unchanged. With the exception of Sunburn, these could be the top-tier stat buffs for the new-and-improved chef. I think Sunburn should either be moved to Mix IV or toned down, although with Starshines reducing incap time, maybe Sunburn won't even be a stat buff anymore.

ROFL! I agree completely!

Were you thinking of me when you said this?

I agree though, enhance to mind wound healing is, in more ways than not, useless . Though it's got a good concept. BF / mind enhancement would be muuuuch nicer for the exact reasons SciGuy said
Terrain neg = teh 1337. It will be nice when all my 4000 scout and ranger buddies are less than fifty meters up the hill

I can't wait.

heal mind food?

I hope they're watching the healing food. I want the chef revamp as much as the next person, but I don't want this "healing" food to undercut us medics.

The point is, as long as it is minfd healing, it doesn't (well, CMs get /healMind, but this is more of a last ditch thing anyway).

I like the fact that instead of ditching mind damage, they have added better ways to buff mind (dancers) and limited mind heals (CMs and in the future food).

Heh once again playing devil's advocate here...

Guys, take it easy on SirVimes.

All of this in-depth analyzation of TH's data is very premature, and is I'm sure part of the reason why the devs don't like to release this data until it's final.

I think at this point we all have a responsilbilty to test this stuff as it appears on TC to ensure we get what we have been asking for.

Now, if they would only activate character copy, we might be able to accomodate heh...

YES.

This is what I wanted; I'm very pleased. Thanks to GM and SirVimes and TH. Don't feel bad about being all over this thread SirVimes- you've every right to be all over it, and every reason to be defending it. It sounds great, and you've been a big part in making it happen.

Maybe rather than a drink that buffs entertainer healing power in the entertainer, you could have a drink that buffs the effect in the customer? That way people drink in cantinas because it will increase the speed they get healed by entertainers. That way entertainers don't need them or have to buythem (since they don't want them anyway) but drink still becomes an integral part of the cantina experience.

And can I once again propose the temporary-basic-(non-healing)-dance-ability-granting drink for higher up chef? Just for fun, so non-dancers can boogie with the aid of spirits? (Then lose the /dance command- if it's still there)

Oh and the food & drink as NPC-bribe idea? (loosening tongues for extra information, or for bigger payouts, or for faction-standing changes?)

Any word or decision on the eating / drinking animations btw?

merry xmas all

One thing to think about is whether the various buffs are going to be foods or drinks. If you look at the current schematics (or even the branches), Food outnumbers drinks roughly at a 2:1 ratio. To me, that would mean you want only your vital buffs on drinks, and let the lighter, occasional use buffs be on the food side.

People enjoy trying to find the "magical" combos of food and drink (well, maybe not ENJOY ) that work best, and since there are far more foods out there than drinks, the liquid refreshments we create need to be the basis of any combos, with the food being added to it.

Think about how it is now: Sunburns, AFS, BoH, all arguably the top sellers for chefs. You then match up the various foods with the cetain drink to get the combo you want, therefore foods need to have a wider variety, and not just higher level repeats of earlier foods.

This may seem incoherent, I'm at work and trying to stay awake

Always been a contention of mine. Good to know I'm not the only one to notice the discrepancy.

Hell, +10 would be amazingly great! Currently the only way to get the Mind Enhancement skill modded is to find rare skill tapes that sell for hundreds of thousands of credits. If, as a Master Chef experimenting your butt off with good (+800 to requisite stats) resources, you could get +15, that would be really a good target I think. Of course, for that kind of result, I think the actual theoretical cap would need to be +20, like bio-engineered tissues, where the practical cap is +18.

/blush I have to admit I haven't looked at foods since I gave up on Chef, basically. And way back then, the Master items weren't even really documented anywhere. (Yes, it was that long ago.) The reasons for my giving up making food are the reasons for me not bothering to use it; too much outlay of cash/resources for not enough return.

SirVimes wrote:

Will food skill mods stack with bio-enhanced clothing skill mods to exceed the +25 cap that is already in place?

Yes.

Okay. Still leaves the other point in my mind...it's kinda not worth it, to my mind as a Master Musician, to use anything that buffs Mind Wound Healing any further. Bonuses to Fatigue Healing or Mind Enhancement are what I'd be far more interested in, since the only other way I have to get those up is to spend hundreds of thousands of credits on skill tapes to drop into clothing slots.

Except the higher level ones take up more stomach room....so if you stick with lower levels you can get more variety of buffs because you can fit more of them in your tummy. Still, not everything will be repeating. I am pretty sure the skill mods won't be.

Except that a Master Chef will be able to experiment the hell out of the high-level food/drink and make it less filling now. /shrug S'pose it's all how you look at maximizing things to fit one's one preferences.

/sigh I'd sorta like to take Chef back up, now that it's going to be so cool. But if I did that, I'd want to keep Master Bio-Engineer to get the most out of it...except that I don't want to give up Music, I went through hell getting that back. Bleah. Not enough skill points to do everything I want!
