Having some bio-engineer tissue skills, i set out straight away after the patch to see what i could make. Seeing as i can only make light additives so far, I didnt really see many effects between foods make with and without these additives. I can only assume the medium and heavy additives are the ones to go with.

As for people whining on about not having any non BE dependant foods to make. Remember what your biggest seller was pre-patch! - Fishak was the one most players wanted. So, just start whacking out loads of Varsarian Brandy. Without any BE additives you can easily get stats of 200 for 35-40 minutes with a fillind under 50. So, players who were used to having Fishak with a buff of +500 for 13 minutes on MIND ONLY, can now use 2 doses of VB and get +400 on ALL 3 mind stats for 40 minutes!

Ive been handing out free samples all over chimaera, and the orders are piling up in a big way. So, all my factories are set to making VB, alcohol and containers while I scurry around the galaxy searching for better resources to make all the other foods that i've been giving away - like Thakitillo (Defence vs Knockdown), Flameout (-80% damage for 4 attacks - great PvP food).

There are so many others in the list that i'm about to start experimenting with, and i'm enjoying the challenge.

I have a message for those who complain. Please! Carry out your threats of dropping chef, because you arent helping the community, and more importantly, you will reduce any competition that the REAL chef's in this community have. I will start scouring the Chimaera server for a reliable, price-wise Bio Engineer when i'm good and ready, but for now, I don't feel it is a 100% requirement, as light additives get me by.

I don't know what game you guys are playing, but if you can't make anything good w/ this revamp, apparently you suck as a chef. I haven't even used BE add.'s yet, and I'm getting requests for the food that I've layed out over my guilds Cantina. Preparation is what was required to adjust to this patch.

Please feel free to quit though, you'll be GROANING when you realize how awesome it is and you have to grind it again. PLEASE drop Chef today, your hurting more than helping.

Thanks Devs for another awesome patch!

im not chief, but i use a lot High-end/level items

Those items you are talking about are High-end items, not casual. i could compare Fishak +580 to a good weapon or a good Tamed pet, and one of those Brandy +400 mind/focus/willpower to a Uber Krayt Weapon, or Good Good Be pet.

so we move from casual food to Uber high-end Food.

All those Skill enhance items are done with more than 1 profession

Tailors (BE Clothes)
BE pets (BE needs some CH or Combat help to get close to lairs and stuff)

combinaison of professions on High-end/level items.

NOt anyone are gonna use those. As not anyone use BE clothes.

All what i want to say is its not Casual items anymore, but High end/level/ items.

So as others profs, those items can depends on a combinaison of 2/3 profession (a krayt pistol requires a Combat prof to get krayt stuff and Weaponsmith for pistol)

yea Im whiney... I liked having control over the food I made.

With the new patch...ingredients have much less impact and experimentation has a much smaller window of what we can effect. In addition to the experimentation window being smaller, most foods only have 1 and sometimes 2 categories that experimenting on even really seems to have an effect. In other words, I can use crap ingredients and get very similar results as the best ingredients. And the game basically forces me to experiment in whatever category SOE felt that food should be experimented in. Otherwise I put 10 experimentation points into a category and the % goes up but the buff or qty or duration does NOT move.

So..ingredients dont matter as much, experimentation is basically forced upon you on how you experiment.

Its not that I dislike the skill mods etc or that I think everything in the patch sucks. I think that our abilities as a chef to manipulate the food to the way we like has been drastically trimmed away. In addition to that, it seems that the BE additives are really the *only* way to make your food stand out. Also, every food has only 1-2 categories that really let you experiment on them as a chef, but as a BE you can do 4 different things to the item. So, why does the BE have more control over the outcome of the food than I do? If you use 1000,1000,1000,1000 resources with 12 experimentation points, your stuff isnt going to be that much different from someone using 500,500,500,500 resources with 10 points. Thats an issue to me, then you put in a BE having more control over my food than I do and well...yet another issue.

Yea, I am whining I guess, but honestly I dont think you got the "why" Im whining. I took pride in making good food. Now I feel like Im making spice with a bunch of extra steps thrown in.

What I like about the patch:

--New exciting functionality - bonuses to skills are a real plus!

--Milk, milk, and more milk

--Chef Outfits

What I don't like about the patch:

--In order to make truly outstanding foods in crate form (as most Chefs are conditioned/accustomed to making their living), you MUST rely on a Bio-Engineer to make crates of components which is known to take 5k of "specific" meat (example Domestic Meat) per crate. Now, most Chefs like to make 40 crates per factory run. So, lets do the math... 5k of "specific" meat multiplied by 40.... can you see why we are getting a little upset? (numbers may be a little off, I haven't verified, but that's generally what I'm hearing)Yes, we CAN exist without utilizing additives... but it is our additives which enable us to lower the filling in our foods, which enable our customers to use more "buffs/bonuses" at the same time. In the end, it is our customers that lose out, and the Coalition for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which benefits. Bottom Line: Chefs can make more money just selling their resources. I'm all for a little inter-dependency, but not to this extent. It's a little bit extreme.

-- First few days are buggy with the high crit fail rates on experimentation (ok, I can live with this for the short term)

-- I still haven't received my Chef Knife Certification /cry

-- There is some general frustration at SOE Development for not even opening up a dialogue with the Chef community in regards to "fixing" us. The impression it leaves the majority of the Chef community with is: "Screw you, we don't care."

I plan on continuing the Chef line... but please bear with all of us Chefs... we are generally a happy-go-lucky community, and this patch has got all of our feathers a little ruffled. Yes, I think in time things will balance out. And it is my opinion that the BE Additives need to go.

u guys are taking the problem the wrong way.

As a tailor can do casual stuff (sunguard, Camos, Shirts...) and sell them low prices u (as far as i got it) make casual food (witout any BE).

NOw A tailor can Go BE Clothes (not casual), and Chefs go Special Food.

I still buy non BE clothes, and people can buy non BE food. i dont see anything wrong.

A Pantaloon is not bad to wear having no BE stuff.
Food same. And u might more NON BE food that u can think now.
casual stuff sell.

The most meat used in a suppliment is:

heavy filling (35 fruit, 40 domesticated meat, 45 wild meat)

Thats 95 meat total, or 3800 units per crate of 40. And thats only for the heavy filling, the rest of the suppliments only use between 15-35 units, or 600-1400 units per crate of 40.

Price those accordingly, use multiple BE suppliers - theres no real excuse for not being able to get some apart from "i'm ignorant and don't want to interact or talk to anyone but sell my own food for millions" (okay, slight exageration and not aimed at you, but you can see that happening)

Give it time anyway, this patch is literally a day old - see how you get on in a week or two once things have settled and people know what they want and how to get it.

KindredUK wrote:My main character is a fighter, I rely on food buffs to keep my specials cost down. I must spend tens of thousands a week on various food that has never been bio enhanced and I was happy. Now I see the example on the chef revamp article:

New Breath of Heaven (Average Experimentation)
Strength, Quickness, Focus
+500 for 10 minutes
Yield 3, Filling 60
Using an additive made with this tissue in Breath of Heaven will result in a +1200 buff, instead of +500! That's without maxing out experimentation.

First off +500 is more than I got before (about +400), so yay for new food!

Uh, couple things that might rain on your parade. I made some pretty good new BoH, and it's +525 for 8 minutes with 65 filling, so their "average" is BS. Now, that 65% filling takes about 30 minutes to clear your stomach, if initial reports are correct. So... 8 minute buff, 22 minutes downtime. Are you still quite so excited? Basically, in order to reach a buff that justifies the downtime (+1200 would qualify) or prevent the downtime (huge duration extension or filling reduction) requires a BE additive. Like most of the rest of the new foods, BoH requires a hard to find and highly expensive BE additive.

Those of us that are "whining" about the revamp are "whining" about BE tissues being required to make stuff worth buying, that the BE tissues effect the outcome far greater than resources or experimentation on our part, and the ammount of meat that is required to make BE tissues. Basically what nikki posted above. The other problem that I have is we only do factory runs. How possible is it going to be for us to get all the full factory runs of BE tissues that I need to keepourfoods enhanced? Not very likely due to resources. Just make non BE enhanced food is NOT an option. I do not like nor want to make crap. who cares about +8 to dodge? +20 thatmay bedifferent. (just one example)

Also it was hard enough moving crates from factory to factory sitting right next to each other, that is going to be extremely complex having to go to the BE and tailorgrab our stuff. We are going to be dependant on them getting us the supply we need, and we need a LOT ofcrates not just a few crates here and there.

Finally, dont assume I am just a fishak and sunburn chef, nor that those are the only 2 foods/drinks that were worth making. I used to keep 10 items stocked full time.

This patch has its merits and there are some great items, but the logistics to make stuff worth selling is flat insane.

I think everyone who is crying simply hasnt put any effort into making and asking your friends and just random people: "hey would you buy this food?". Ive done that and everyone loves the new food and think its great. Yes some of our top foods are gone in the patch and have changed but there are replacements that are as good or even better than the old stuff. With the exception of maybe half a dozen new foods (T'ssolok comes to mind), I think they all have selling potential. Vasarian Brandy, Elshandruu Pica Thundercloud, Jawa Beer, Flameout, Travel Biscuits.. the list goes on to so many new and awesome foods. My customers are lining up to buy my food and my guildmates are already asking for crates of the stuff and are helping gather the ingredients.

Some of the foods Im sure will get a tweaking (breath of heaven duration is low in my opinion) as SirVimes has said, the devs will be paying close attention to the new foods. You can complain about a few of the foods that dont look so hotand I would agree, but calling this whole revamp a total failure and a "nurf" just tells me you havent given any effort in testing the new foods.

The experimentation rates can't be that bad. If you think they are, try being a Doctor... if we don't get all good or amazing successes on craft/experimentation, our product is near useless to us, as its way behind everything else out there. And that happens all too often.

Personally, I can't wait to see some of the new foods in action. Even stuff like the +50 action, if you can get the filling low enough, why not use it?? If I can consume 10 of them, thats +500 action, and it'll probably be cheaper than paying for a low end buff

So far I like the changes that I have had time to play around with. It doesn't hurt me as much as others since I have access to 3 accounts to play (my brother uses the CM account for a character he made on Bloodfin so we kind of share but each have our own accounts too.)

Anyway, to be a decent chef you don't need to have BE for everything. Lots of the skill buffed food you can make AS IS. If someone wants to pay extra for BE, then that would be a specialty order. Now there are some of those bonuses that I would make with BE for what I know is popular, but I don't have to make it like that to have them be good.

Things like Canap are very good. The base buff I got was around 375 to willpower and focus for 11 minutes. With a 39% filling, I can eat two and then have some more later. Mind foods are going to be our bread and butter. Face it, people are going to hit doctors for the other buffs. So if you want to use BE, use them in the mind foods which is the hardest area usually hit when fighting. I can tell you now, Dancers and Musicians do not nor will they ever replace food. I have only found 1 dancer and 1 musician who would do buffs while the rest danced afk. People are pissed off about that and if they don't have to wait around in a cantina, they're not going to. So just concentrate on enhancing your mind foods and if people want enhanced other foods, make that on SPECIAL order only. Don't blow a gasket trying to make all your foods BE. It will ruin your fun in the game.
